Re: Runtime error
Hi,
Is this happening all times? or it just happened once on a specific scenario? Could you please attach a savegame. cheers, Pyros |

In each scenario I played I have this problem. With sounds turned off I have no crash.

Re: Runtime error
I checked it and I can't reproduce it, so it must be something related with your settings.

Re: Runtime error
If switching off all sounds makes the problem go away, then you have sound card problems.
- your sound card drivers may not be up to date, or may not be the XP version. Check the manufacturer's web site for the latest versions. - As many cheaper or older sound cards (or installed third party CODECS) had problems with multiple simultaneous MP3 channels playing, in WW2 we issued the larger WAV file formats instead of the more compact MP3 file format. So any of these problems which occured with MBT are not your problem in this case. - At a guess, as the battle FX files are rather large, then your sound card may simply not have enough horsepower to accomodate these, plus overlaid sound channels?. Try mouse click OFF in the game options screen, and Sound FX ON in preferences (to get explosions, movement, firing sounds etc), but Battle FX to OFF (no (large) background battle noise files being played then). If that works fine, then you may want to enable mouse clicks as well (I always turn them off as I find then irritating http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Cheers Andy |
Re: Runtime error
I know exactly what causes this problem as it happened to me.
I had 3rd party media player codecs installed. I simply uninstalled the codec pack and it works great. The same goes for WinSPMBT. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: Runtime error
No need to delete any codecs.
After many tests I find a solution for my problem : I simply convert wav files to wma (windows media audio) files with an encoder and It works fine in WinSPWW2 and also in WinSPMBT. Re: Runtime error
Ok - another approach to people who have sound card problems, if WAV is not good for them.
Are the wma files smaller than the WAVs? (just wondering why wma fromat is better on your machine, really - cannot recall many uses of wma format at all) Andy |
Re: Runtime error
Wma files are a few biggest than wav files but the different is not very important.
In my opinion if it's a problem of media player codec with wav files, it's normal that with wma files there is no conflict with codecs. |
Re: Runtime error
Both my WinSPMBT and WinSPWW2 had been running just fine until today. I guess I installed something else that didn't go well with it. No codecs packs either. Anyway, I tried installing Media Player 10 in the hopes of fixing it, but no go.
I converted the sound files to .wma format and all is well. I'd be happy to upload the ini sound file in order to save anyone else the time of changing the file extensions to wma. |
Re: Runtime error
I've also noticed after converting the MP3s in WinSPMBT over that the .wma files are almost all smaller than the MP3s. Especially the battle sounds files.
You might look into using .wma in the future? |
