Akkisartorpok (Revenge)

http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/1151/startfe4.jpg

-----------------------------------------------------------

The announcement by the Angakut spread almost instantly though the city on the ice. The snow warrior captain, Chulyin, had convinced them Issukangitok was finally awakening. Now the Angakut have called a gathering of the tribes, called the snow warriors and even seal hunters to arms. A return to the sea and revenge upon the illithids drives every ancient Atlantian, while the younger ones are urged on by eagerness to follow their god to battle.

--------------------------------------------------------

Chulyin could still not believe it had been so easy. He had expected at best incredulity and days of councils from the Angakut, yet they had not only taken his claim of Prophet in stride, they had even approved his campaign against the humans to the north. Yes, they had insisted on appointing an Angakut advisor for the expedition, but why quibble when everything was going so well?

Now after weeks of preparation and marching, the day of battle was at hand. The humans had been completely unprepared for their invasion, and their progress thus far had been almost effortless. The human armies had finally gathered though, they could be seen across the field on their strange hoofed war beasts in metal clothes. When they finally charged, the effect was impressive, many of the snow guard looked ready to jump out of the way as the beasts rushed toward them at high speed. But on impact, it was instead the humans that received the worst of it, with their war beats impaled upon the ice lances. Within minutes the rest of the humans were fleeing and the first of many battles for New Atlantis was over.

The new sprites look great, but not nearly as great as the new nations themselves. Every one I've seen has made me go, "Cool! I can't wait to play -that- one!"

I see my precious spare time disappearing before my eyes.

"What do you mean 'the ship can only hold one commander'? You are telling me that it can fit exactly yourself and twenty five troops but I can't come aboard under any circumstances?" Chulyin practically shouted. The Angakut had mumbled something about 'arcane laws of illwinter' and before he could protest further had loaded the rest of the troops and set sail. Days later he was still cursing at the Issukangitok-forsaken Angakut with the nerve strip him of his troops and force him walk back to the capital in disgrace. The Angakut council was going to get a piece of his mind when he got there.

Re: Akkisartorpok (Revenge)

(note: I decided to fast forward a bit until I had something more interesting to talk about than conquering indies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif )

For the first time, Chulyin began to wonder if this whole prophet business was worthwhile. Below, hundreds of undead and their living thralls camped. If it came to battle, his own command of snow warriors would be outnumbered ten to one.

This campaign had seemed such an easy task, scouts had reported that the mountains held only those small humans that called themselves hoburgs. Their resistance had been quickly crushed... only to find the largest army he had ever seen, waiting in the next valley. As yet, they had not made a hostile move, but no threat this large could be ignored.

His squabbles with the Angakok council suddenly seemed very distant. He dispatched an urgent message back to the capital, but wondered if any amount of reinforcements would make a difference...

Man! That's one horde the Ermor has. And led by a Phoenix....how odd.

Re: Akkisartorpok (Revenge)

Every day that the undead horde did not sweep down upon seemed a miracle of it's own, and Chulyin instructed the troops to send prayers of thanks to Issukangitok. To keep his mind from army below, Chulyin had been spending his time trying to organize the local hoburgs into a defense force. While they seemed quite cowardly and weak, their inventions known as 'crossbows' were surprisingly deadly. He was beginning to think if he could gather enough of them they would be a very formidable force.

A message had at last gotten back from the council, an Angakok leading thirty Atlantians had begun the march immediately, and more forces were being mustered. As long as the legions held off a while longer, Chulyin began to hope disaster might yet be averted.

Hmm, maybe I aks why you're hiring the Hoburg Militiamen? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

But finding Hoburg Crossbows was lucky.

So, how about showing us some of the national units? Perhaps even summons.

Well, several reasons:

1. Every troop on that border decreases slightly the chance Ermor will attack.

2. They are only 6 gold and 1 resource.

3. They aren't bad patrolling.

4. I actually like them better than normal militia since they are hard to hit and pack together closely.

I'll put some more national unit screenshots in the next update.

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/5...hateveruu4.jpg

Time wore on in what had become known as the 'pass to the underworld'. In the lands to the south, scouts reported undead continued to march down on those unlucky enough be living there. Last month they had lost contact with the amazonian tribe to the south east, and everywhere plague consumed the population. Yet the pass itself was untouched, the atlantains and hoburgs manning the defenses, that had months before seemed hopelessly insufficient, began to relax. The council had even dared to divert enough troops to renew campaigns against humans in the northlands. But Chulyin did not leave, he reluctantly let the honor of leading armies into battle fall to others. He was needed at the pass, the influence of the dark phoenix was strong, and wherever it touched the land whithered. He felt sure if he ever let the presence of Issukangitok falter here, doom would surely follow. So he bided his time in prayer, and teaching the hoburgs of the faces of Issukangitok.

Yes, they are similar to long range nets.

Yeah, they're called "harpoons".
