How the heck do I...?
deselect a commander from another one?
In other words....I had shift selected 2 commanders to move them together....now, I want to move just one, but when I click on the commander, I select both, and I cannot figure out how to deselect the one I don't want to move... Anyone can help me out here??? Thanks Chris |
Re: How the heck do I...?
Shift-click on ONE again ...
|
Re: How the heck do I...?
or ctrl-click on the commander you want to add or remove (depending on what their status was originally)

Re: How the heck do I...?
thanks....I think I will just make this my "question" thread....
It has been awhile since I have played the game...but Dom3 has be pretty excited, so I figured I would just reinstall and have at it.... and I am enjoying the game quite a bit.... |
Re: How the heck do I...?
I know the feeling, the game is plenty fun after a while of not playing it (which is why dom3 will rock since my dom2 isnt working atm)
|
Re: How the heck do I...?
I wonder why it's like that. I guess because there is so much to experience in this game that even if you get temporarily tired of it, you'll want to come back later and experience new things. Honestly, if Dom3 didn't realease for another couple of years, I'd still have a lot to do with this game.

Re: How the heck do I...?
in my current game (vs. the AI)....a province that supplies knights sits right next to my capital....
If I built a fortress in that province, that would take resources from my capital, right? Should I just not bother with utilizing those knights in that province? (I am playing as Caelum, by the way) |

ok....thanks....

Re: How the heck do I...?
You dont have to build a castle there to use the knights. It might take awhile to build one but I tend to like to have some in the works.
They can be very useful as flankers. Set them off to the side (the top or bottom of the screen when assigning positions) and have them attack rear. Even better is to have a mounted commander and have the knights guard commander. Then have the mounted commander wait, wait, attack rear. |
Re: How the heck do I...?
The castle wouldn't drain resources from your capital, but it wouldn't let your capital to draw resources from the knights province. Unless it's a mountain or near mountains, you won't have enough resources to quickly mass knights.
Resources do accumulate over time, if you are producing a unit, and even if it takes few turns you will eventually get knights even if there aren't enough resources to build even one (in one turn). |
Re: How the heck do I...?
Wasn't there a bug at some point where units that took more than two turns to be built were never built?
Not sure if its still there, or how exactly it worked though. |
Re: How the heck do I...?
Yes, and I think it's still around in some form. I remember trying to build an indy knight in a province with very low production and every turn, the production would reset and he would not be any farther along. I thought it was intentional game design, though.

Re: How the heck do I...?
Unspent resources do not carry over from turn to turn, but in my experience (in the demo), and according to the help files, units may accumulate resources over multiple turns.
So a 40 resource knight in a province with 16 resources, say, would take 3 turns to build, with 8 resources left over on the last turn (if you que something else, too). |

Re: How the heck do I...?
How do I check and see how many provinces each nation has?
My current game (vs. the AI), I have the victory conditions to number of provinces...but I cannot find out how close I am to losing.... Anyone know if I even CAN see how many provinces each nation has? Thanks Chris |
Re: How the heck do I...?
another question....what is the short cut key to remove the info boxes? like the box in the upper left corner, and the end turn, options, map filters, ect ect, and the province info, army set up, mercs, and recruit units boxes...
In other words...how do I show JUST the map? Thanks Chris |
Re: How the heck do I...?
#1) You want the score graphs. They display a lot of things; among them, a graph to show "who's who" in the wide world of real-estate. Locate the score graphs under statistics.
#2) No idea. I'm not even aware this is possible. The "?" key is used to view most hotkeys, though. =$= |
Re: How the heck do I...?
#1 If you didn't enable (or disabled, I don't think which one is the default) Score Graphs when creating the game, you can't change the setting any more. It shows number of provinces, income, gem income, etc etc for each nation in the play, from turn 1 forward.
#2 I don't think it's possible. |
Re: How the heck do I...?
I have the score graphs....but maybe it is another setting within that setting that I didn't realize....
as far as the short cut key....I could swear I stumbled upon it a week or two ago....oh well, maybe not, just seems like I did (and this is the only game I have been playing for a couple weeks)... At any rate, thanks for the help... Chris |
Re: How the heck do I...?
ok...I have looked at it again....even set up a new game to check the settings....
I cannot find anywhere where it tells me the number of provinces each nation has. I see the graph, but that doesn't say that Ulm has 15, while C'tis only has 8 (or whatever, just using an example). Setting up the game, I only see the option to turn graphs on or off....not to allow the to see the number of provinces. The reason I am asking about this....in one of the AAR's I was reading (MP game), I was seeing that the host (I am going to assume it was the host) was listing the number of provinces each player had at the ending of the last turn.... Chris |

As far as seeing the exact number of provinces, they're probably getting that from the debug or log file, which I believe has to be turned on via a command line argument. |
Re: How the heck do I...?
ah, thanks....

Re: How the heck do I...?
Well, since we're asking newbie questions here - if you craft a bow with ammo of 12, what happens when the ammo runs out?
Do you have to craft new bow? |
Re: How the heck do I...?
Actually if you use a command-line switch to turn on scoreboard then you get an html file in your directory each time it hosts. That tells things like numbers in armies, number of forts, number of provinces, all kinds of info.

Re: How the heck do I...?
@Cadeceus
No, missile weapons restock between each battle; I'm sure even multiple battles in the same turn. =$= |
Re: How the heck do I...?
what are the command line commands....and how exactly do I change it?
Chris |
Re: How the heck do I...?
If you launched Dom2 from command line, you'd write
> Dom2.exe -d and for scores, something like > Dom2.exe --scores The \doc subfolder in your main Dominions directory should have a list of all command line commands. I'd explain how to do it in Windows, but I don't know the what a .lnk file is called in English. |
Re: How the heck do I...?
In windows its the Icon that you click on to start the game. Also known as a Shortcut Link.
In WinXP: If you right-click the icon then hit the tab for Shortcut There is a "target" line that calls the program. At the end of it (after the quotes if there is one) you can add switches. Those can include things like always play in a window, or always start with music off, or always have renaming on, many nice settings. |
Re: How the heck do I...?
Going back to the question about getting the map and nothing else...
It's a bother - there's no perfect way, but turning all filters off, and going under video options and setting GUI transparency to 100% works FAIRLY well. It can be a bother though, since text remains, but if you select a province you don't own, much of the text goes away. Also, the video options menues has a black background, so it's a little hard to turn GUI oppacity back up. Fortunatly, the texts go red when you mouse over them, so it's not too bad. |
