OT: A Music Poll
 

I'm curious what genre's of music the people who frequent this forum like. It'll be interesting to see if there's any correlation between distribution of likes/dislikes and age as shown in the various age polls. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Americana? Sounds like a redundant genre to me, covering a bunch of other genres (bluegrass to alternative country, blues, zydeco,). Genres are so vague as to be next to useless anyways...

Looks like everyone loves ROCK and hates RAP.... Too bad there are way to many people pretending to be rappers these days. My cusins daughters, 10 and 12, think they are black rappers. It is quite pathetic. But children emulate what they see and all they see is Rappers. I would turn MTV off if I were their mother.

I think the poll is a little too restrictive. I like all of those (in the poll) and more. About the only genre I can't stand is opera.

They are a good band. I enjoy them a lot. I have only heard the first single off of the album, so based off of that I think this could be a great album.

Most second albums for bands suck. So hopefully Evanescence breaks that cycle.

I can only answer for myself. I don't dislike all rap/hiphop, but the number of pieces I like is relatively few.

As I see it there are 3 main things that people like about music. The first thing is beat. Almost everyone understands beat, and without it there is no music. The second thing is melody (or harmony), and the third is lyrics.

It's my theory that a listener will find a particular piece of music enjoyable if he likes at least 2 of these 3 qualities in it.

Rap often has little or no melody, and the lyrics may be objectionable or difficult to hear.

Unfortunately, there is no legal source for any of the songs besides the one single that's already been released.

I didn't vote because the poll did not include all 3 of my favorites: punk, ambient, industrial. Or 4 if you want to add Goth. You could even make it 5 if you throw in experimental/noise.

More poll choices next time, please!

I wanted to keep the poll somewhat limited to common genre's, which is why I didn't include the others.
