Any word on a UK distributor?
I've just googled and checked as many UK game stores as I can think of and none of them are showing that they anticipate Dom3 (or even that they know it exists).
It really is imperative that at least one distributor be found because importing direct from an overseas manufacturer to a UK customer is an horrendous option. Please let me try to explain. Non-gift parcels that pass through UK Customs which are valued over 20 GBP (30'ish USD) are now held back at a regional depot. Occassionally Customs let some through when they can't guess what the package contains, but with security high everything is being screened of late and most of it is being held back. This means that I would have to take a ninety minute round trip out of town to a Customs depot and pay over an addtional 20 GBP in 'import duty' to get them to release it. Add in the petrol for the trip and the total cost for the game would be over 100 USD. So please make an effort to get a UK distributor if one hasn't already been found. Either that or clearly mark packages as 'A GIFT for MR ....' http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Of course a digital download would obviate all of this, but I appreciate the reasoning behind the devs descsion as to why they are not going there. However, importing to me is a royal pain in the *** and too damned expensive. Good old HM Customs http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif. |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
You do that, because that will mean Israeli Importers will import it over from the UK and I could buy it as well http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
PheasantPlucker,
That's another collateral damage of world-spreading paranoia, too bad... But you could surely easily find an US resident here that'll buy it for you and send it back as a "gift" (you'll refund him through Paypal http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ). That's what I did with Battlefront's CMBB when they decide to not sell the US version directly to Europeans... |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
I'm surprised Shrapnel isn't going with using GoGamer as a secondary distributor again. I discovered Dom2 via the combination of GoGamer.com and PCGamer magazine (a Trotter article).

Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
I have ordered Dom3 and I live in the UK. R u sure the game will be delayed in regional customs? I was hoping to get it with in a week of release.
By the way Dom 3 for anyone in the UK, it is not as expensive as some people may think. It worked out at 34.60 pounds (that's with the best shipping option), most UK games at release r 34.99 nowadays (so slightly cheaper), $1.83 dollars to the pound helps http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif. Consider Heroes of Might & Magic 5 was 39.99 pounds and well pretty, its not a great game. |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
dom2 was shipped, if memory serves, as a plastic-wrapped manual with the CD inside in a paper sleeve. Not much in there for customs to be frightened, I'd say, so if dom3 looks the same, even with a larger manual I'd say there should be a good chance that the game reaches you reasonably quickly, unless UK customs are really extra paranoid.

They could be right, I am seriously considering having a week off work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/stupid.gif |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
PDF - I got CMBB from a friendly guy in the US too. Takes me back a while that does http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. IIRC you did some cracking mods (Pasco Di Falco?) for it as well.
Meglobob - It's happened twice to me in the last few months, once for a computer game and once for a board game. At my regional depot they are little jobsworths who seem to get some satisfaction out of the fact that you have paid for postage, but have to drive to pick it up and hand over tons more cash to boot. I suppose it might get through wherever you live, but they all seem extra-keen at the moment. OTOH perhaps it's me and I may have typed 'I wish I could blow up Parliament' into Google while drunk http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif The main reason I put this up was that the only place I knew where I used to get all my Shrapnel stuff from (Strategic Plus Software) has just sadly gone under after 20 years. I enjoy Dom2 and have got a few buddies here hooked as well, but seem to be stumped for getting hold of Dom3 without lots of extra effort and cash. Thanks for the tips everyone, ideally there will be a UK distributor, otherwise I might be begging some of you chaps for assistance! |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
Play need to send stuff through Customs too, and they never have a problem. I got a game from another US company around a month ago, and that came through fine.
AFAIK the only reason they'd detain it is if VAT or Import Tax is due. |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
Archonsod - 20 GBP Import duties are supposed to be due on everything valued over 20 GBP which is not a gift. I guess that your game was less than that or Customs missed one.

Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
Aaagh. Still nothing out there in the UK except bizarrely a Linux only stockist.
I'd be very grateful if anyone who is trying to import direct into the UK will post their experiences of Customs charges and stoppages when their game arrives. If customs are letting some through then I will risk ordering direct myself. Thanks. |

Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
Hi,
I have pre-ordered and live in the UK. If my order gets processed today then it should be Tuesday or Wednesday that it gets to me, barring a customs intercept. Will tell you what happens. GM12 |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
Going by the fact that shipping of pre-orders will take until Thursday 5th October - and I only ordered on Monday means I probably won't get the game until the 10th or so at the earliest.

Meanwhile I'm waiting to hear how GamerMan12 gets on. It could be cheaper to order direct IF HbloodyM Customs are asleep. So thanks to you both, it's appreciated. |
Re: Any word on a UK distributor?
Tuxgames have not even placed an order for Dom3 yet, according to Tim Brooks.
