found(ed) wiki

I found a place to start a dominions3 wiki:
http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dominions_3:_The_Awakening
. The hosting site http://strategywiki.org seem to be a fork of www.wikipedia.org, can use wikipedia content and is run under the GNU Free Documentation License. The place is free from google ads.
I plan to collect on this place some forum wisdom (tactics, god design etc) and make a new sub-wiki-page for each of the many nations of dom3.
I will start a dom3 entry on wikipedia as soon as i have dom3 in my hands. The wikipedia article will just describe the game; the strategywiki articles will be a place for walkthrougs and tactics discussion.

I aprove. I'll lend some help when I get Dom 3 (demo). I thought of writing a demo guide to gamefaqs, so I'll let you also use it.

Thanks for all the help ! Does anyone remember the exact release day of dominoinsPPP and dominions2 ?

I was fixing some typos in the wiki. I guess we should start to add nation/troop/etc. informations after the game has been released. Until then, we should only make cosmetic changes mostly.

Take the loss of faith in one of your provinces very personally. Punish a whole province with high taxes. Add blood hunting. Let your troops pillage this province. Create a horrible demon and let him quell revolts (if there is still population left). That will teach 'em !

Heh heh, nice.

Dom I style god desing competition/project would be very cool. I would need Gandalf's Wayback Machine to show what they were like though.

Not sure about PPP, but Dominions 2 was released November 13, 2003.

Dominions: PPP came out in 2000 something. IIRC.

Perhaps it could be good to add a short description of the game to the article?

- Added the Eras
- Added some categories.

What a great communtiy

Hi i just waked up and checked the dom3-wiki... I'm stunned, so much work was done over the night ! Thanks for fixing all my typos. I will try to make domPPP dom3 wikipedia entrys and dom1, dom2 and dom3 strategywiki-short-descriptions as soon as i find time / get dom3 in my hands. Sadly, i suck at short descriptions.

Does anyone remember this wonderful nation-discussion text for DomPPP and Dom2 ? Sadly, just a few nations were discussed, but in great detail, discussing advantages and problems as well as comparing with other nations and giving valuable tactic hints. I read those guides several times and always learned something new. Hopefully such nation discussion will find its way into the dom3 strategywiki...for each nation *shudder with anticipation*.

Re: What a great communtiy

Concerning Dom 3:

- it "Ages", not "Eras" ..

- not every nation is playable in every age, as some disappear completely and others get replaced over the course of the history.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give more details, at least before Oct. 2nd ... .

I would suggest, though, to join the wiki entries for "Eras" ("Ages", resp.) and "Nations".

- water magic doesn't allow going underwater any more ('was mentioned here on the forum somewhere) => God Design

I think this is from a virtual cornucopia of information, SunrayBe's Dominions site.

Perhaps Blessings should be under the God design part?

And perhaps there should be a page with screenies. Because screenies are always hot.

For those interested, check out my user page. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

And perhaps what now is under God Design page could be moved to Physical Form with added stuff about what forms are suited for what, and God Design page itself would contain more generic stuff about God Design...

Hm...I think that blessings are a part of magic. I don't know if it should be moved under God design or not, any other opinions?

Anyways I've added more categories and updated some datas meanwhile.

Re: Thanks for all the help

Go for it! In about two weeks, you'll get the manual. At that point, I think the manual will be plain better than your wiki, but eventually you should be able to better it with sheer quantity on material. Eventually. Perhaps after a year or so. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Nerfix September 20th, 2006 01:31 PM

Re: Thanks for all the help

Finished the Blessings. Hoo boy.

BigJMoney September 20th, 2006 02:43 PM

Re: Thanks for all the help

The manual might be better than the wiki, but one thing the wiki can do is offer two things:

#1 Demo players can have a little insight on what to expect from the full version.

#2 A link from the true Dom3 wiki page will mean people curious about the game who have never even played the demo will have a lot of intruiging info at their tips. I've found that strategy gamers love to read about the details of a game, and this could get them hooked.

Anyway, I'm not good at starting wikis, but I like editing them. Whenever someone gets the chance, Dom3 needs its wiki on wikipedia typed up. The DomII wiki might make a good example.

Magic sites can occasionaly be found in great number in one province as every site increses the chance that the province contains another magic site.

This is new to me. Is this in Dom2, or is this a new feature?

On the topic of the Wiki, it's probably good to stick to it as a strategy guide instead of trying to create an online manual. General information is okay, especially for n00bz, but as an overall goal, it might be good to try to make it a general repository for strictly strategic information. I like the idea of going through nation/God creation and the first few turns, as this will usually determine where you will end up later on. But we should in no way have an entry for every spell, magic item, unit... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif

That said, of course I don't even have the game, but would hope that some of the Dom2 experience carries over. If we can get some good topics about specific strategies, perhaps some of the beta testers wouldn't mind checking it out.

BigJMoney September 20th, 2006 03:58 PM

Re: Thanks for all the help

Agreed. Although, I do think we should include stuff that isn't in the manual, but could have been, such as numerology.

We are doing great with the wiki so far. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
However imo it was a bit pointless to upload the infos about the blessings, because we don't know the exact Doms 3. blessing effects. That is why I haven't updated that part of the wiki until we can try it ourselves in the final game.

Isn't this something like, for each province the game rolls dice, and if it is successful a site is added, and the dice are rerolled (up to 4 sites max)?

I think to remember something like that. Then, with "obvious" sites (level 0, that you find without searching), it might be a consequence (with the proper parameters, I'm not 100% sure) that a province with an obvious site has a higher probability of having a hidden one than a province with no obvious sites.

Sites in Dom I increased the chance of another site in the sense that if slot one was empty then there couldn't be anything in slot two and so on, so if you found a site in slot four then there had to be three more sites. It stopped meaning anything when Dom II hid the slots.

thank you Caduceus , i was already looking at the Shrapnel About Us Page.
I could use more precise information (about Illwinter and Shrapnel) founding dates in the form of (Day/Month/Year). That is because strategywiki has categorys for each day of the year. (maybe to make a game-birthday function)
