Newbie Repair question
Ok,
I refit a ship, and have built a repair base (space station with repair facility) at the same planet. How can i get the base to repair the refitted ship? Just can't figure it out. Thanks in advance for the help. |
Re: Newbie Repair question
It should repair automatically.

Re: Newbie Repair question
All repair bases will work on ships in the same sector at the end of your turn.
Note that all of your repair bases can work on one ship, and one repair base can work on more than one ship. Considering your Repair priorities, the game will pick one ship to start with. All repair point will be expended on it until it is repaired, then another ship will be picked. All of your repair points will be fully used unless there are no damaged ships left. Any ship with the rusty wrench (indicating damage), and a shiny wrench (indicating repair abilities in the sector) will eventually be repaired. It is highly reccomended that you mothball ships that will take more than one turn to repair, since repairs will work on mothballed ships and you pay no maintenance. |
Re: Newbie Repair question
Thanks guys.
I've set my priorities and the ship has been there for 5 turns now with no change...there are 2 space stations in the same planet...one is a defense base with weapons and the other is the repair base. This is a ship i refit that needs about 10 components fixed now. How long should that generally take? Thanks! ------------------ - Ves |
Re: Newbie Repair question
Is the ship or repair base cloaked? This may cause repairs to not take place. I don't know if this is the case but I have noticed that cloaked ships do not show in the refit list nor will they recieve training.

You can fit two repair IIIs onto a space station hull (three if you don't want to put any defenses on the station) which can repair 16 (24 if you neglected defenses) components per turn. Plus whatever the repair rate of the space yard you use to refit and any other space yards in that sector. I usually have a location close to the front with one or two repair bases with as many repair 3's I can squeeze in. It makes ship repair and refits go a lot faster. (Want a challenge? Lower your repair rate in the racial stats to 50%. It *will* affect things.) ------------------ -- "What do -you- want?" Re: Newbie Repair question
It was just a 1st shot station with 3 or 4 repair - I's in it.
The only thing I can think of is the ship was already there before the station was built and it won't pick up on it unless a ship moves into the planet square. I'm done playing for now but will test that out later. Thanks guys. ------------------ - Ves |
Re: Newbie Repair question
It was mentioned to perhpas mothball the ship that was to be repaired. Did you check to see if that your repair base was mothballed. It probably won't work if it is.

Re: Newbie Repair question
Vesuvius, is your damaged ship a captured one from another race ? They seem not to be repair-able...

Re: Newbie Repair question
You do need to watch out for captured ships. You can only repair things that you can build in the first place!

Re: Newbie Repair question
He is right, You can not repair something from a higher tech level then you have or from a type of tech you can never develop.
tech. You capture a ship That has Crystal tech and you can not gain that tech then You can not repair the damaged area's of that ship that use that tech. You can repair the engines as long as they are not from a level you have not researched yet. When i capture ships that will not gain my anything by breaking them down. I add them to my fleets and use them until they get damaged. I will then either trade them to my allies for other ships or give them off as a gift to an allie. That way I don't continue paying for a damaged ship. (ps. I rarely ever scrap a ship for any reason.) |
Re: Newbie Repair question
@ Vesuvius
Does the ship have that wrench-symbol? You haven't answered to that yet. ZzZ |
Re: Newbie Repair question
Is there no way to analyze the alien ship ... and gather the new/higher developed/unique tech from it? Even with intelligence projects or something?
Would be interesting. I only know that you can't trade a unique tech ... although it's possible to make good deals when offering a unique tech to a neutral race ... let's say you offer your Massive Shield Depleter for 10.000 minerals in return ... and the Cynarra Holdings will give you the 10k minerals every turn although they never receive the tech ... I know .. this is exploiting the game. I just found it out accidentally because in one game I tried to strengthen the CH against the Phong (I was in war with the yellow bastards) but they always stayed at the same tech level. ZzZ |
Re: Newbie Repair question
Yes you can break down a ship and analyze its components and it will give you research bonuses for the technologies that the ship contains. You can't acquire racial or unique techs this way though.

Re: Newbie Repair question
Ya, it had the wrench and the station had the repair symbol...and it was my own ship design.
Didn't get a chance to try to duplicate it, and have moved on to another game. If the situation comes up i'll test the ship before the repair yard thing again. Thanks guys! ------------------ - Ves |
