GUI Mod package available for download here.

While waiting for the game to arrive I have been tooling around with the Demo GUI for fun, using my limited graphics knowledge, and come up with the following today.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ker/Purple.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ucker/Teal.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cker/Black.jpg

I'm happy to release them if anyone wants them, but first would like someone who actually has the game to test them at all resolutions.

Comments?

Re: Three straightforward GUI mods

The 2nd one would be great if you play Atlantis or Oceania, the 3rd for Abysia or Yomi, and the 1st .. yeah, the first .. aahh, I think there will be a place for it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Early Ermor.

I think they're all pretty. :3

Re: Three straightforward GUI mods

Thanks for the responses. As soon as these have been tested in game rather than just the demo I'll put them up somewhere - can anyone recommend a host?

I knocked up three more last night. They are all pretty basic but they do add flavour.

Heat:

Bamboo:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ker/Bamboo.jpg

Ash:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lucker/Ash.jpg

I plan to do simple forest, ice, steel, earth and blood style mods as well when time permits.

Well, I could host them. Not technicaly me but Gandfalf, but I don't think he minds much. Right Gandalf?

How about a background screen with the keypresses on it?

Three more tonite.

Cold:

Earth:

Metal:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cker/Metal.jpg

PDF, I'll sort out getting them all over to you after I have done the forest and blood varieties, most probably tomorrow nite.

PheasantPlucker October 7th, 2006 10:36 PM

Re: Three straightforward GUI mods

Two problems Gandalf:

1) The backgrounds are repeated 512*512 tiles according to screensize, so you would end up with the keypresses repeating at odd places all over the screen.

2) This is a complete neophyte doing these with his photo editing software. 99% of requests would be beyond my capacity. Hopefully these will give proper graphic artists some ideas though.

I could make some decent backgrounds, but not now, I am extremely busy designing our TC mod, and playing MP games when I have a little freetime. Anyways your backgrounds are not that bad at all OP.

Re: Three straightforward GUI mods

Ok here's my last two completed tonite. That's my lot for now, but I'll probably tinker around some more when the game arrives.

Bloodred:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/Bloodred.jpg

Green:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cker/Green.jpg

They look great at 1280*1024, but on my monitor the font quality deteriorates at lesser resolutions (as does the font on the default game GUI), so 1280*1024 is recommended, although they work at all resolutions.

PDF I'm zipping and emailing these to you in the next 24hrs.

Re: Three straightforward GUI mods

Try the attachment above the Yes! post. It's 8.5 meg and contains 12 new GUIs so I hope it doesn't break the thread.

Remember to to backup the four original .tga files as suggested in the readme. Also remember that these are recommended for 1280*1024, and that they haven't been tested above that yet.

PDF - I just tried to email these to you but my server didn't like the large attached file, so I figure this might be the best way to get them to you.

The final mods have all had various tweaks, particularly gamma adjustments, over the first screens posted in here. Two in particular have been reworked.

Heat:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cker/Hot-1.jpg

Ash:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cker/Ash-1.jpg

I also couldn't resist having a last minute fiddle with the default GUI, and have included a brighter version and new button backgrounds for that as well.

New Wood:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...evisedWood.jpg

With perfect timing the game arrived today, so I'm going to actually play with these things rather than tinker around now. However, I will check back here for feedback.

Re: Three straightforward GUI mods

I have no problem hosting these. But I will also point out this thread to kristoffer to see if Illwinter wants to create a page for this kind of player creation.

Re: Three straightforward GUI mods

Hay, can I make a request?

I'd like something like the purple one but with black granite background and much darker shade of purple for Ermor of later days... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Three (now twelve?!!) straightforward GUI mods

Thank you kindly PheasantPlucker. Ash and bamboo are my favorites.

Re: Three (now twelve?!!) straightforward GUI mods

You are welcome, I'm using the bamboo right now as TC. Although I haven't used the Ash in game yet, from my testing I noticed that the unit graphics look great on that dull grey background.

Re: GUI Mod package available for download here.

Well I was playing around with early Arco today and couldn't resist a new light blue marble mod for them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../LightBlue.jpg

While I was there I tweaked the purple mod too.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ightPurple.jpg

Also the heat mod has been tweaked to make reading the yellow game font easier.

They are available in version 1.1 of the GUI Mod package which I uploaded into the earlier post today.

Nerfix October 12th, 2006 12:29 PM

Re: GUI Mod package available for download here.

Could you make a black-purple marble version ofr late Ermor?

PheasantPlucker October 13th, 2006 11:56 AM

Re: GUI Mod package available for download here.

Ok I fooled around some more and as I was never entirely happy with that Heat version I trashed it and split it into Desert and Lava.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ker/Desert.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ucker/Lava.jpg

I also created a Lime Green variety in case any Ctis players would need it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ucker/Lime.jpg

They are now uploaded into v1.2 in the previous post.

Nerfix - I hear you. I had a go at it last nite but my photo program really doesn't like trying to change the default marble into black and purple. I gave up in frustration, perhaps I can figure it later.

I'm also stymied with a green/brown mod for Pangea at the moment. In fact this will be the last update for a while, but I bet I'll return to them again quite soon...

Gandalf Parker October 13th, 2006 01:17 PM

Re: GUI Mod package available for download here.

I would love green and brown for Pangaea. But Id allow for a more golden brown as a lighter brown for backgrounds. Light green looks too C'tiish. That way the darker brown can be trim. A nice green vines background screen would be great

Yes I know Im hoplessly Pangaea addicted.

Oh keep in mind that Oceania would be Pangaea with blue instead of brown, and seaweed for a backdrop?

Hmmmm if someone decides to macrograb the entire sprite set from Dom3, what color option would make the best sprites? white? black? magenta?
