Few questions about finding items after battle
What are the chances of finding items on the battlefield on dead enemy commanders?
Does it depends of the item? (more valuable - easer to spot maybe?) Does it depends on how many of your own commanders have survived the battle? (the more people looking - the better chances?) Do attributes of your surviving commanders matter? Can you still find the item if enemy commander fleed and died while retreating after the battle? What if it was idep provinse? So basically - what is the formula behind this event? Thanks a lot. |
Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
IIRC the chance is only tied to item "power" -ie Cons level, it goes 20-40-60-80% for levels 0-2-4-6-8.
Artifacts (level 8) can be "lost" this way and then reforged. It works same with any indeps item. |
Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
Cursed items are much more likely to be found.

Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
Ahh, I see, thank you. And how many commanders you have in the province after the battle does not matter, right?

Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
I thought unique items were guaranteed to be found?

The latter kind requires Construction 12, so the odd of finding them is higher than 100%; I've yet to see one of those items disappear myself (except by lack of slots, of course). |
Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
Construction 12? O_o

Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
I think he means items that cant be forged. You either have to wish for them or kill a special commander.

I doubt the magic number has been changed since then... and perhaps I should update the Null Item mod, one of those days. PDF's formula does not specify any clear answer for level 0 items; they can be picked up, with odds around 20% according to my experiment. So, is the odd equal to level 2 items (20% for both), or is it (20% + level of item)? The latter would mean "level 8 items are always picked up"; I doubt that's the case, but I cannot check at present. |

Ah, I see.
I remember when I once saw Solaris back in Dominions: PPP...ahhhh. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
I think I've killed Solaris and ended up with only some of his equipment before. Finding trinkets and lesser items seems more likely than 20-40%, to me, though Arralen you said you did some tests on trinkets and only got them 20% of the time?
I know you do have to catch and defeat the item-carriers before they leave the map. |
Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
Speaking of Solaris in Dom I, I once scouted his province and went well out of my way to grab it. I loaded his gear on a Knight -- who died of a single shortbow arrow while storming the Jotun castle. It was all lost and I quit the game then and there.

Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
Playing in my first non-demo game - I think I must have killed Solaris - I was playing on a large map with just one AI player - so that I could get to large scale playing - anyway I ended up with 4 items - Sun Sword, Sun Sheild, Sun Helmet and Sun Armor. Will post stats if anyone is interested.

Re: Few questions about finding items after battle
Solaris' magic items:
All items say they cost 25 Fire Gems to produce! Sun Sword (Single Handed), Dmg: 15 (x3 vs undead/demon), Att: 3, Def: 3, Len: 3 This is the holy sword of Solaris. It will bless its wielder with holy rage and unleash fire upon its enemies in close combat. (Blessed, Beserk) Sun Shield Prot: 25, Def: -2, Parry: 8, Enc: 2 This is the holy shield of Solaris, It partially protects him from fire and lightening. (50 in both cases) Sun Helmet Prot: 24, Def: 0, Enc: 0 This is the holy helmet of Solaris. It protects him from magic. Sun Armor Prot: 24, Def -5, Enc 5 This is the holy armor of Solaris. It shines with the brilliance of the Sun and only the bravest of men will dare strike its wearer. (Awe +2) You can tell which independents have Solaris as they have a strange name (which I've forgotten), but they are cavalry with goldy coloured bits! GM12 |
