SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

EB Games shipped my order and will arrive tomorrow, yet Malfador/SF is saying 10/16. What happened here with this release? Was EB supposed to wait until the 16th but they decided to release it early? And if it is ready then why is SF waiting until the 16th to release on their site?

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

As an Australian I can tell you it is definitely out, seeing as how I've had it since last tuesday. It is a subject of some debate as to why we got it while it is not available in NA.

Can you tell us about the quality of the manaul or PDF,does it go into great detail about what everthing means.

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

Well I'm not a great one for looking at a manual unless I am stumped over something

The manual is pretty standard. Specs, explanation of how things work etc. Being a SE veteran most of it is just stuff I know seeing as how SE5, albeit improved, is basically the same as SE4 with a few changes. 77 pgs BW, pretty standard.

Now the PDF manual. Wow. I only just checked as you asked but it is almost 300 pages. Starts out as the manual but then has colour pictures of all the components, facilities, ships, technology, races etc.

Well, it's not out yet in Canada. Over the last couple of days, I went to several different stores that sell games but nobody had it.

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

It will be out monday, but I doubt many stores will actually carry it. Ordering from EB games or Gamestop is your best shot of getting the full version early.

I just hope the patch gets released soon since the demo is bug and CTD ridden....

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

Well,

Don't hold your breath for today (Monday) either.

I just received a call from my EB games where I pre-ordered SEV, and they told me that while it was supposed to be here today - it didn't come in the shipment. THey don't know when it will get here. Perhaps Wednesday they said.

Anyway - just the news form Pittsburgh, PA.

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

I just called all the EB-Games and Game Stop stores in SE Michigan and none of them have the game in stock and none of them have the ability to order it in either. It could have been pre-ordered but once released there is nothing they can do. They all claim that, other than pre-orders, they just get what the company ships them. ebgames.com shows none in transit to the stores as well.

Sounds like the best bet is to mail order it.

So much for switching to SFI for a retail presence. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

AAshbery76 October 9th, 2006 02:21 PM

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

SFI are crap.Their website has nothing about ordering the game, while at the same time Aussies are playing with the game now.

The lack of any decent marketing plan has been typical SFI.They have done nothing,I recall some small gamespot preview many years ago.Very poor.

Kamog October 9th, 2006 02:36 PM

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

Let's see, how much would mail order cost? $39.99 from EB Games USA, + handling + tax. They don't say how much the handling and tax are.
International shipping to Canada (3-5 business days) is $14.99.
And there will be a duty charge to bring it into Canada.
Then there's the exchange rate to Canadian dollars.
It's probably going to be somewhere in the $60 - $70 range.

I'm going to wait to see if it's in stores at the release date of October 16th.

If only that were true. North American Free Trade Agreement is subject to tariffs and duties whenever one side feels like it. Take a look at how the US decided to screw Canada over with our US exports, such as lumber and beef recently. NAFTA is meaningless, since it's violated whenever either side wants to. Duties and tariffs are charged all the time when it shouldn't be.

Gamestop in Lennox Center
2160 N Coit Rd
Richardson, TX 75080

NE corner of Coit and Campbell
The people there had never heard of it, but found out about it on the computer. They talked very confidently, but I was seriously reserving judgement. It came in though, so something worked right.

Maybe for industrial-scale stuff like that, but I've ordered retail goods from Canada before - including PC software - and never had any duty charged.

I have been looking for it in stores around here but cannot seem to find it. Hell the store employees don't even know what I am talking about. That is depressing to say the least.

NAFTA is evil. A canadian firm sued the US because we banned the chemcial they used to sell to CA oil companies because while it did lower emitions, it also contaminated the water supply. Go figure.

On Saturday I used the Gamestop web site to check store availability, and of the 20 or so Gamestop or EB stores within 30 miles none had it and only 3 or 4 were showing it "on the way". I called the closest one, and they said that they actually carry very few PC games and only get the ones expected to be big sellers (which pretty much rules out TBS outside the Civ franchise, eh?).

So, I called Gamestop & ordered it with overnight delivery. Shipped UPS overnight yesterday, arrived in town at "zero-dark-thirty" today, and I should have it in hand tonight!

Just got an email confirmation from Ebgames.com - Its been shipped and should be here in Boston today! Woot!

I called the local ebgames on Friday, they said it was supposed to be in the store that day, but it had not been shipped to them yet, didn't know why.

Oh well, I'll be playing it tonight, so, Woot!

I hope SE5 is worth it, as i just ordered it from Gamestop for $99.98 (with shipping fees to Brazil), and customs taxes of another another $49.99 in a total of $149.97...

If the brazilian customs works as always, in around 3 or 4 months i will receive the game... by them i hope the patches released make it a better game than the demo...

Ouch. It will be worth it in the end, though. Keep in mind SE:IV had what, 84 or 92 patches to make it what it is today; I forget what the current version number is.

EDIT: current version is 1.95, so 95 patches...

I got a call, it will be at GameStop this afternoon. Hurray!! NA Texas location.

This GameStop also said that they carry few computer games. I looked around in the store, but could only find XBox, and other Console type games. I saw no PC ones, let alone an Amiga game.

The latter is hardly surprising, given that I can't find any mention of a new game release for the Amiga more recent than 2000.

My first two home computers were Amigas.

95 VERSION numbers, not 95 patches. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif SE5, for example, is up to 1.06 without having a single patch released yet, and I suspect the actual patch will be 1.07 or 1.08.

No doubt because Commodore went out of business in 1994, and the last actual Amiga (as opposed to AmigaOne, which is a PowerPC) was made c. 1996. Not much potential in porting new games to 10-years-in-the-dustbin-of-history platforms.

I loved my C64. My dad gave it to me when his employer gave him a lunch box 286. I was the only kid I knew with a computer at college back in those days. I played the heck out of Wizard's Crown, F15 Strike Eagle, and Gunship.

Wizards Crown:Eternal Dagger was my favorite game on the C64, I stayed up for 3 days straight playing it one time.

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

Ah, the C64 - actually mine was a C128, but for games that made it a sort of big footprint C64. Bought mine in 1985 to play F-15 Strike Eagle. Also loved RFTS, Pirates!, Gunship & Empire. Had to step up to a 286 PC to play Battlehawks:1942, so I gave the C128 to my little sister.

I was playing Colonization last night on my Amiga4000 while waiting for SEV to arrive. There is still a users group here in Dallas. http://www.amigamccc.org/ There are others around as well. I don't have any games for my Amiga One, but I am still hoping. A port of SEV. Hmmmmmm.

Parasite October 11th, 2006 03:20 AM

Re: SE5: It\'s out and yet it\'s not

I called and GameStop was unboxing their day's shipment. It has arrived! I went down to the store and picked it up. I came back to the office and was able to install it and see that it will run before lunch was out.

It appears that SEIV Deluxe is on the same disk as SEV. They both can install at the same time. This means it is not just extra disks being sent out, but extra space on the CD being used. The default setup path then does not go through Shrapnel as before. I guess that is the reason.

They got in 3 copies. You can't play just one! Me talking about and ordering it must have helped. Anyone for a road trip to Richardson Tx USA, come on down!
