SEV \"Advanced Storage Techniques\" Bug?
I received SEV yesterday and created my own race. one of the traits that I selected was Advanced Storage Techniques that should give a 25% boost to the amount of things you can have on a planet (vs 20% in SEIV). So either this is not working or planets in SEV are smaller than in SEIV. With this trait selected I can only fit 5 facilities on a domed huge planet and only 25 on non-domed huge planet. This is in contrast to 6 and 30 respectively in SEIV.

AST only affects cargo. It affects all cargo though, including ships and bases. This is a welcome change, since the SE4 AST trait is extremely overpowered (it translates to 20% bonus in every resource, research, intel, etc.).

Thanks for the tip. Definitely not "a welcome change" for me, so I guess I'll have to figure out how mod it back in. I agree that AST is VERY powerfull for only 1,000 points.
Do facilities shrink in SEV? I assume there is a reason that facility space is listed in Kt and not in number of facilities ala SEIV? |

The stock game does not take advantage of variable sized facilities, sadly.
There might be an ability to modify facility space on the planet. Look in Data\Description_Abilities.txt. If not, email MM and request one (se5 at malfador dot com). And make sure to make your changes in a mod folder (which must now be in the GameTypes folder)! Leave the stock game intact. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Add the ability "Storage Facility Space Percent" instead or in addition to the current Storage "Cargo Space Percent". Note though that the it is not being correctly applied (ie 20% = 120% increase etc).

Every mineral world gets 20% more mineral miners. Every research world gets 20% more research labs. If you have 100 mineral miners and 100 research labs without the trait (200 total), you can then build 120 mineral miners and 120 research labs with SE4 AST (240 total, which is a 20% increase in total facilities). How is this not a 20% bonus to mineral production and to research?

FYI the "description abilities" file isn't included in the release version. At least, its not on the EB Game's "Space Empires Compilation" install.

"Cargo Space Percent" is found in data/RacialTraits.txt. Can "Storage Facility Space Percent" be added as a second ability to the racial trait just by cloning ability one and changing it appropriately?
Bigger question, how do you know that "Storage Facility Space Percent" is the right variable? Is all of this documented somewhere? |

The "Cargo Facility Space Percent" ability is actually listed in mainstrings.txt - which is a helpful reference for such things. I'm still lobbying for a "Cargo Population Space Percent" ability myself. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
I think Aaron wants to make complete the documentation in the "description..." files because they are currently incomplete and lack full documentation - so I would think they will be added in a patch. |

Great. mainstrings.txt is only about a half a million lines long. That should solve everything.
No really, how does one figure this all out? Is it trial and error or is there a decoder ring. I thought programming was difficult back when you had to keep 1,000 punch cards in order. |
