SEV Sphereworld construction
Is it different than SE4 because I tried to do the same thing and it doesn't seem to work. Same except for the fact I couldn't stick all my stuff above the star in question. Is there something changed about making these things?

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
I believe you may need to build the components on a baseship, in order to have 1mp available to activate the stellar manip process.

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
I did stick the placement generator on a baseship with engines but not the other parts.

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
As far as I know you do NOT need any movement points to activate the construction component. What you do need is sufficient space for the new structure. It's quite fussy about any ships or bases that aren't being used in the construction. Make sure everything but the bases/ships with the components are well out of the way. Weirdly enough, planets or asteroids get moved out of the way... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
The manual is very exacting on this matter:
You need the following: Only 1 star No other stellar constructions in the system No colonies within 6 sectors of the star No vehicles (other than those required for this process) within 6 sectors. Everything within 6 sectors will be destroyed. Warp points will be moved. |
Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
Well, I did all the guidelines that Moriarty lists and I put movement points on all the ships and yet it will still not create.

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
Consider yourself lucky. I made a ringworld and it's all but un-usable. Shortly after I decided to not play another game until the real (non-beta) version is released.

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
Well, I couldn't select it (the ringworld), so it was difficult to impossible to build anything on it, or do much of anything with it, really. I couldn't park any ships over it either.

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
This is a weird side-effect of the multi-sector design. As I recall you click on the star sector and you'll find the ringworld is 'in' that sector as well.

Or wait a minute...I haven't tried building a ringworld. I built a sphereworld and thatworks just fine. If I get some time today I will test out a ringworld to see if it works ok for me. |
Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
I've been successful in building/colonizing both ring and sphereworlds. Although I did have trouble getting the colonizer to colonize the sphereworld (it took several tries).

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
I'd appreciate if someone would post the designs for the ships they used to create Sphere/Ring worlds, where in the system they placed them, system composition and such. Just want to see what I'm getting wrong (like does star size matter?).

Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
In a full tech game:
1x Baseship w/ master computer, 4 engines, ringworld placement generator (or sphereworld placement generator) 5x (or 10x) Baseship w/ master computer, 4 engines, hyper-dense cables 5x (or 10x) Baseship w/ master computer, 4 engines, gravity plating Send all ships to a sector with a star. You must have no other ships or colonies near (I think within 6 sectors) of the star. Select the ship with the placement generator, choose the stellar manipulation icon, choose construct world. The ring/sphereworld should appear. Note that you'll have to send a colonizer to actually use the world. Star size shouldn't matter, but I doubt it would work in a system with more than one star. |
Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
So, I must use Baseship?
B/c I put it all on Starbases and construct sphereworld didnt work. (also full tech game) Good thing I use autosave >_> |
Re: SEV Sphereworld construction
So, I put all the stuff on baseships with movement then it worked fine. I figured out what I was doing wrong though. I assumed it would just create the sphereworld when in fact I had to select a hex to center it in.
I am pretty sure if you stick everything except the placement generator on starbases then stick the placement generator on a baseship and give it an engine it will work. Just make sure you select a hex that the star is in and that all the star bases are in the same hex as the generator. |
