Video Interview with Aaron Hall

Here's a SFI vodcast that has Aaron Hall wedged in the middle. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Aaron pronounces Malfador Machinations different than I do. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Huh. So that's what Aaron looks like. Good to know. But am I the only one who spent most of his interview trying to figure out what games were on the shelf behind him?

Mal-FAY-der? Hmmm.....

I think it's gonna be hard to break the 8+ year habit of pronouncing it MAL-fah-dor.

And yeah, I was trying to figure out the bookshelf contents as well.

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

I'm one of the Mal'fah'dor -ians too.

Are there any other common pronunciations? Might be interesting to take a poll.

Fah-la-la-la-la.

AgentZero October 26th, 2006 12:39 AM

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

Not only does he say Mal-fay-der, but he also says Mash-in-ations, whereas I'd always gone with Mack-in-ations. My whole world is askew!

Fyron October 26th, 2006 01:22 AM

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

The ch is definitely a k sound, not sh. Malfaydor disheartens me; long live Malfahdor!

Well a very short part with Aaron in it and it was filled with lots of old news lol. I am quite sure that Aaron pronounced Malfador wrong http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif I can't accept that I have been saying it wrong for over 5 years.

Hey, he put my "Whoa, I can post blogs!" blog in there! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
Guess it pays to have a catchy title! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Aaron looked very... well, "tired" is a good way of putting it nicely - I guess Warmaster really was all over him those past few weeks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I was frankly much more impressed with Jasmine.

But seriously, I think Aaaron made one telling comment and that was about Modders. He clearly expects that they will provide the meat of the game while his job is to build the skeleton.

Malfaydor Mashinations? Uhmm.. I think I'm with the Malfador Machinations too.

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

So we've all concluded he can't pronounce the name of his own company then?
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Machinations is pronounced:
Mak - in- ations

The ch is pronounced like the C in Cat.

Or so says my Dictionary. Of course, there's no accounting for the way you Yanks mangle English. ;-)

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

I always pronounced it 'Mash-in-ayshuns'.

Fyron October 26th, 2006 10:56 PM

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

"Mash" is a common mispronounciation, but the real thing is "mak."

Caduceus October 26th, 2006 11:04 PM

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

I'm okay with Machinations. Its just pulling back the curtain to find out it is Malfaydor after all this time is bugging me.

Kind of like Magneato versus Magnetto, which sounds *way* cooler.

My grandfather always says "mash". I chuckle every time he does it.

I am a Mal'fah'dorian as well. Is anyone going to let Aaron know he can't even pronounce his own company name? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

In one of my recent e-mails I told Aaron that his pronunciation of Mal-fay-der has left the community in shock - so much so that we forgot about all the bugs in SE:V.

Magnetto sounds kinda like a tool.

But with Magneato one can at least pretend his name doesn't come from the fact that he's just a big magnet. Otherwise it's like, "Hey I'm a giant magnet, and my name is Magnet... O".

Baron Munchausen October 28th, 2006 05:49 PM

Re: Video Interview with Aaron Hall

A 'magneto' (mag-NEET-oh) is actually a 'tool' of sorts. It's part of an electronic ignition system. Look it up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yep, met him. Nice guy, All.

Of course, Mag-Neat-O sounds kind of silly.

But it IS pronounced Maag-NEE-toh. Just ask any card-carrying Marvel-geek.
