New ICON BMPS

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I've attached a Zipped folder of all of the various new Icon BMPs I've come up with over the past year. It's a mix of historical units, experimental units, hypothetical units, and some Hammer's Slammers Sci-Fi Stuff =)

I plan on putting together a complete group of OOB and SHP files for these Icons and hope to post them here soon (right now they're all over the place in my OOB/SHPs).

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Adrian Gunn

Re: New ICON BMPS

Wow, the ATC icon is a lot better than mine. From the looks of it you used the new LCM icons from WinSPWWII to make it. That, and the CCB, the scaled up monitor, and the PACV all look great.

I guess the next question is could I use these in my pack?

Re: New ICON BMPS

Thanks!

You're correct - I used the SPWWII LCM6 icon as a base for the ATC. I scaled the exisiting Monitor Icon so it was the same size as the LCM6, then did a bit of cutting and pasting to incorporate the LCM's well deck with the Monitor to get the ATC. I replaced the old Monitor Icon with the scaled up one to keep the ATC and Monitor to scale with each other. The CCB is simply the scaled up monitor with the mortar pit & canvas cover removed and decked over.

"I guess the next question is could I use these in my pack?"

Sure, be my guest!

Thanks, you'll be credited of course. I also took the liberty of adding the cover for the cargo area from my icon to yours to create more of an effect like seen here.

This was the result:

Hi,

Here's a new PBR Mk. 2 Icon, as seen here.

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q.../Icons/pbr.jpg

The PBR Mk. II was normally armed with twin M2 .50 Cal HMG in a forward turret, a single M2 .50 Cal HMG pintle mounted aft, and either one Mk 18 40mm AGL and one M60 7.62mm MMG or two M60 7.62mm MMG amidships.

Re: New ICON BMPS

I've redone the CCB Icon again - I had forgoten to add the communications shelter aft of the 40mm turret.

Here is the corrected image.

Great Job - but how to do?

I mean - which programme do you guys use to create these icons and what are the parameters (size, etc)? Sorry for that question, has probably been asked many times - I might have overlooked it.

Re: Great Job - but how to do?

Which program to use is up to you, I personally rely on bad ole MS Paint ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif) for icons.

First thing to do to keep the game standard is to open SHPed, save a bitmap copy of the palette (load WinSPMBT_Palette.pal, click "display palette" then "save collage") so you know which colors are supposed to be used.
Then open some other ingame icons for inspiration in visual standards (slopes, lighting, colors, shading...) and the background color.
Oh, and the scale is 6 inches (152.6mm) per pixel for vehicles and 3 inches per pixel for infantry and artillery.

Cool, I'll try that - thanks!

Re: Great Job - but how to do?

There's a lot that can be done by "hacking" existing icons too, which can be found using the SHPed tool and the master icon list in the design directory in your WinSPMBT folder. Hacking just involves cutting and pasting parts of various icons to form new ones, which is sometimes easier for sub-variants and the like.

Re: Great Job - but how to do?

Hey, just tried to save the ones that aren't included in the attachment (the new PBR, the CCB, and the larger post) there straight from the interweb, and I've noticed that there are some issues with the colors. I've noticed this in some of my edits too, but sometimes you stumble across the "animated" colors which are used for water and such things. Also, there's some "flash" around the edges that isn't invisible in game, but is in photoshop.

They're still awesome icons, but at least with just saving the images to my comp from, they're not immediately usable.
