Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
1.) When I wish for Doom Horror, why do I get it as a commander, rather as a unit, like all the other wished creatures?
2.) My prophet died 40 turns ago and I can't still make a new one. Why? 3.) Alt + Tab = when I come back to the game, the interface has turned rather "buggy" (same with Dom2). Anyone else has the same issue? 4.) With what spell do I call Seraph? 5.) Why is High seraph worse than Seraph? |
Re: Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
1) Commander
2) A bug, if he's really dead. If he just e.g. "Vanished between space and time" or something, and later reappeared somewhere (probably insane), he'd still be alive even though you might've thought that he is dead already. 3) Known bug. Alt-Enter twice works as a workaround IIRC. Myself, I play Dom3 in windowed mode, but maximized. 4) With a Marignon/Pythium national spell Heavenly Choir. The manual lists the spell as giving other commanders as well, but currently the other angels appear as units instead. 5) High Seraph of Caelum is better than a Seraph of Caelum. The six-winged, angelic being that is also named Seraph is more powerful than most mortals, immortals, humanoids, monsters or summoned creatures. Seraphs of Caelum (latin for "sky") were named Seraphs long before Seraph as a six-winged angel existed in Dominions, but the root of the name is probably in the angelic being who commands great magical powers. |

Horrors?
One should be careful wishing for doom horrors. They're horrors, after all...
|
Re: Horrors?
Going back to the first question: I wished for Seraph (Ma/Py national one) and it came out as a unit (normally commander), whereas Doom Horror didn't.
PS. Thanks for that historical trivia concerning Seraphs. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif |
Re: Horrors?
On the Alt-Tab thing, I play in Window mode and it never does that. There's really not much difference in this game between Windowed and Full-screen.

Re: Horrors?
The one time I tried wishing for Hunter of Heroes with my pretender, I got the Eater of Gods. It killed me, and I had no Horror Mark beforehand. It could've just been coincidence, but somehow I don't think so.

Re: Horrors?
whatever you wish-eater of gods, eater of dreams, hunter of heroes, doom horror or something of unreason-you get a horror randomly pick out from above, mostly eater of dreams. there's one of them have a 0 map movement, and one of them(sth of unreason iirc, the one looks like an octopus)have a 10 map movement but in fact cannot move at all. for each two wishes or what you call horrors you get one of them, another time being "assainate" by a horror. Thus to avoid your pretender's death, give him 2 astral pearls and script him "Returning". At next month, wish again and you'll likely get a horror at your own.
Note: Doom horrors you get from wish randomly disappears. It may vanish at the 3rd month you get it, or it may not disappears till the game's end. Once it's gone, you'll get a message like "Agon was suddenly nowhere to be found". HTH http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Re: Horrors?
Ah, thanks. I'll keep that in mind in the future.

Re: Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
You can "wish" for a Seraph?!!!
So can you wish for basically any creature in the game? What about pretender titans? |
Re: Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
I tried wishing for a VQ, and it worked. It had the usual 'No commander' clause, and it's unclear if it would retain various commander-centric abilities (I plan on testing it out next time I can wish for a Lady of Springs) if Gift of Reason was cast, but it worked nonetheless.

Given a unique name...
You can wish for one of any monster type which has a unique name. I haven't fiddled with seeing if there's any way to get a monster by unit number.
This includes pretender types, national heroes, et al. If you wished for a Patriarch, you'd get a unit of the same type as Father Bart (assuming no other Patriarch unit exists -- haven't played around with ambiguity, either), except that he'd be a unit and you'd have to Gift of Reason him to get his magic. If you wished for a Lord of the Night, well, you'd get a new Lord of the Night. It's not perfect. If you wished for death, you might not die. |
Re: Given a unique name...
Wait, they regain their magic if you Gift of Reason them? I guess I missed that during my test.
|
Re: Given a unique name...
Hmmm. Haven't Wished for a while -- but Gift of Reason does restore magic for Tartarian Titans and Vastnesses, so unless Wish itself is clearing the magic that's attached to the unit type, it should be there.
|
Re: Given a unique name...
GoR DO restores their magic, as well as all other abilities they got. I get a Fear+39(or is it 34?) PoD this way =)
|
Re: Given a unique name...
Next question: I had originally a 2-in-all-rainbow mage, whose magic paths I eventually empowered all the way to 11 (Spinal Tap, anyone?). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Yet, my prophet gains no blessing effects to speak of. Does it mean, that the only blessings I'll be getting during the course of the game, are the ones I chose initially, at the pretender creation screen (e.g F9/W9)? |
Re: Given a unique name...
check your manual p46 - p49, answer's there.

You will not like it when you kill your enemy's nasty F9/W9 Moloch, and his Vans still come at you with quickness and flaming weapons and ludicrous defense and attack. You will, however, learn how blessings work.

Commanders randomly leaving
Quote:
Thing is, it's not clear whether the random-leaving is due to a monster attribute, or whether it's buried in the game code keyed to the individual monster numbers. One test that comes to mind: Copy any of the Doom Horrors to a new monster. Use whatever stats you like. Name him something different. Make him recruitable easily, or simpler still put him on a map. Then, clear the Doom Horror -- say, overwrite with a human weirdo with a wraith sword, some age, taste for blood and death, and a tendency to go berserk. Put him on the map. Add some other commanders. For a further test, copy any normal unit, name it the 'Slave to Unreason', and put HIM on the map. If the copied horror kills a commander and scrams, it's a monster property -- and one that can be copied. If the weirdo does the same, it's tied to the monster unit number, or it's a property which isn't being cleared. If the fake 'Slave to Unreason' does the same, it's based on the unit name. That should cover just about all the bases. Or, of course, we could be blessed with sudden developer insight. :p |
Re: Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
My guess is the Doom Horrors leave your service as soon as they have something better to do (e.g., they go attack someone with a horror mark...).
So the only current way to mod that for a hero would be to give the hero the hard-coded unit number of one of the horrors... which of course would also mean he'd be the horror that would show up to kill horror-marked folks... ... if my guess is right. PvK |
Re: Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
What about that one astral/death monster? That leaves as soon as it gets to powerful?
|
Re: Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
The eater of the dead dosnt leave as such, he just goes independant.

Re: Short, but somewhat preoccupying questions
In dom2 I had a surplus of astral gems one time as ermor and conjured up the eater of the dead. You can't summon another one while one is already in play, your summon just does nothing, like if you try to summon an ice devil, elemental king or whatever and they are all in play.
But, you could have one copy of each of the three versions of the eater of the dead. I don't remember what happens if one of them "evolves" into a version that already exists. I think he cannot evolve until the other one has evolved too. I don't remember. Anyway, by the time you can actually summon one of these guys, and go to the trouble of feeding it, it's really not that threatening on its own. It does however make an excellent meat shield for a large army, as long as it's got help. For extra fun, try wishing for an "unfettered" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
