major countries
states
jolly roger
pro sports team logos
sci fi (starwars empire, rebellion; star trek, etc)

I would think that you wouldn't have to create these from scratch, more like copy/paste then touch up.

Are these the full sized or reduced in size versions? If you are not sure what I mean take a look at the TNZ Small Flag Mod. Most people seem to prefer the small size and it helps to reduce the strain SE5 places on our computers.

No I downloaded these from the Civilization forum...I figured someone with some modeling talents and some artistic impression can turn these into some nice flags...

This thread is exactly like one I contribute to for flags within another game I play, Hearts of Iron 2:Doomsday. If you want I can use my templates from that format to make flags with a wavy crease. I used one of them when making the Terran empire flag I use

Heh, speaking of getting sued, you might not want to put a disclaimer to members of the community located in Germany - isn't it illegal to possess Nazi flags there? Possessing one even in digital form I imagine might be quite dangerous...

Yeah, but noone in Germany can sue Mark over it; he isn't subject to such repressive anti-freedom laws. (unless he is actually German)

I thought Germany gave up its repressive anti freedom ways after the Nazi were defeated. To say you cannot own a Nazi flag, a part of German history, well its like saying country folk, and red necks, cannot own the Confederate flag. Its unthinkable!

Wait until the ACLU and other anti white hate pro-kill whity racist groups get wind of the idea that you can BAN a flag. They will jump on the "ban the confederate flag" band wagon so fast that it'll seem like they had scram jets on.

I wouldn’t label it as repressive; each culture is entitled to their own mores even if we [Americans] don’t agree with any repression; even those born from a stigma.

They tried and won with restrictions against the State, but not the people! Each individual American is free to fly the CSA flag even if your neighbor wants to shot you for it.

It has nothing to do with mores; it is the very definition of repression (2 a : a mental process by which distressing thoughts, memories, or impulses that may give rise to anxiety are excluded from consciousness and left to operate in the unconscious b : an item so excluded). Nazi memorabilia is distressing, and they seek to repress the memories of WWII atrocities by erasing the presence of its historical artifacts. German social mores may generally find that particular repression acceptable, but it doesn't change the fact that it is repression. But this is getting way off topic from the point of this thread...

The thing about Nazi symbolism is that much of it has significant historical value long before the Nazi's twisted it into symbolism of evil.

I however wouldn't want to see a flag for SE V that has anything to do with Nazism.

There are over 300 ship sets out for SE IV, many with very cool race emblems that would be great adaptations for SE V.

ZA is playing the French, poor guy.

Darkant and Violist have dissappeared off the net, however, so we need somebody to take over as the Americans, and another for the Germans.

At the moment the Eastern powers have more territory and are on the offensive, but the west is starting to fight back.
ZA's centrally located empire lies in ruins (industry demolished, but possible to recover given time and military protection from the west.)

I think these all need race portrates in them too...
I keep getting errors when I go into the combat simulator and I'm guessing it's because there's no race portrates in these folders.

If that is true, then being able to pick you portrait, your shipset, and your flag seperately in empire creation is not going to work...

I've confirmed it.

What's happening is that the simulator grabs random race portrates for the populations for cargo. since these folders don't have race portrates it throws up errors.

You can pick portraits shipsets and flags seperatly.

I'm just rambling...I have no idea where they go...

After further review this is what I've gleamed...

There are two places that have flags. There is a Picture/Flags Folder with 15 race flags, and 12 Alliance Flags. There is the Empires folder with 14 Stock Empires with 14 flags and 14 portraits, 10 Neutrals with 10 flags and 10 portraits, and 1 default with no flag or portrait.

This leaves us with a total of 51 stock flags, and 24 portraits between two different areas. I would assume that any extra flags would go into the Pictures/Flags folder. These are with out any connection to a empire folder or portrait. These means that there is something wrong in the simulator code somewhere. Which of course you have already pointed out, yet I dont think it has to do with the fact that there are flags without portraits, just in how the simulator finds the flags, and portraits.
