Is it hopeless to continue this game ?
 

Hi. I just started to play with this game - this is my first game (I made some mistakes - not searching every providence for sites, spending my money on useless troops ...) but I got to some point in the game when I don't know if I can win anymore ..
maybe you with your expireance can look into it and find a way to win this..
I'll add the save game file ...

ps - It would be nice if some of us will post thier game save from a good game they have (mid game) .. so we can expireance games of other players and try to continue thier game ...

Quick description :

I am playing Atlantis Early Age, I have a tought army of 350 troops in Dendra Nigra (85) .. but 10 turn from what I have posted Ulm will bring 1500 troops to there + its seems that he will have the spell "Mass Protection" and my blade wind that did a good job until now will be useles.
+ even without the mass protection 7 blade winds per turn is still not good against 1500 trops ... (maybe in a siege with the castle walls - but ulm won't break in the fort). I waited 10 turns and with each turn they had more besiegeting units - until they got 1500 and I was the one who started the fight (break siege).

I tried to cast Earthquake 4 times with 4 mages but it still don't help (in the upcoming siege) + my mages won't retreat after castin earthquake (becouse they were fatigued ?) and slaind by ulm.

I know I need more powerfull spell that efect the entire battlefield or at least 25 areas ...

But I have 7 strong mages .. and research is good (I can go up to 250 per turn).

Maybe with the right spells I can win the upcoming battle ...
But I think it's a lost game - I will be supriesed even with you that know all the tricks in the bag of this game will find a way to win this .. win after all the newbie mistakes that I did .. It's too late ... or is it ?

OK, if i were you i would focus on raiding ulms lightly/undefended provinces and setting taxes to 200% to cause unrest and get you some income. Secondly i would take your research off enchantment and aim for conjuration8 evocation 9(in the order conj6, evo7, conj7, evo9, conj8).
This will let you get monster fish, asp turtles and water queens(and earth kings if you teleport your pretender above ground) and will give you access to magma eruption, acid storm, ice strike, murdering winter, maelstrum and eventually niefel flames(although ulms cold resistance will reduce the effectiveness of murdering winter and niefel flames, making magma equption and ice strike attractive).

If i was you I would also make some thug basalt kings, they can buff with quickness, prot, reinvig and fireshield and have full slots
I would probably give them lucky pendant, robe of shadows, ring of regen, charcoal shield(fireshield cast by them is weak), sword of swiftness, boots of the messenger and a blacksteel helm. Script them with invunerability, summon earthpower, quickness, attack X, they would be lucky, ethereal, regenerating, untiring, fear causing, high prot, fast, 4 attack per turn kings http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Check out Magma Eruption. It would be the more powerful AOE damage spell you're looking for.

With what spell do I telleport the Monolith ?

"4 attack per turn kings" - you mean melee attack only or that they can cast 4 spells each turn ?

and .. by the time I do all you say, ulm will have 4000 - 5000 troops ... do you think I really have a chance if I do what you said ?

What do you think about the idea for posting saved games ?
It's like a puzzle that you are been given and need to solve (for you) and something to learn from (for me - when I see your 1000 armies with your 30 greater mages and your 50 greater Items .. - that I only will be able to do in easy settings or in 6 months when I become more skilled player ..).
And just for fun to see what other players stratgies and so ..

You dont have to do everything i said, with a combination of your pretender, shamans and mages, with a little bit of alchemy you could be making one of the thug/SCs i mentioned per turn, if you could research magma eruption it would be a double bonus, with a script of invunerability, summon earthpower, quicken self, magma eruption, magma eruption, attack X. A group of 2 or 3 of those magma equption casters i can see killing a good bit over 200 men per battle (6 magma equptions and then 12 attacks per turn from a group of 3) and with support from an army... they could do wonderful things for you.

Posting saved games is good, it happens occasionally but what i would really like to see is the host of a MP game saving the turns and presenting them afterwards.

edit: to teleport the monolith use the spell teleport(2 astral pearls) and attached (hopefully) is a picture of a buffed, equiped king that i would like you to make(made in a single turn in your game)

By attack X i mean set him to attack whatever you want(closest, rearmost, archers ect) and check my last post for a(hopefully) attached picture of the king.

Now, as i see it, 1 of these for every 60-80 ulmish troops(without mage or army support) should, hopefully(with magma eruption) get you consistant victories with minimal losses. Something you could do to greatly increase their survival is research phoenix pyre(you have alt 5, its 6 or 7) because, if they buff with it, whenever they die they will explode and be reborn with extra fatigue(they have 11 reinvig when buffed and blessed so no worries) and kill(usually) everything nearby. If you use maybe 2 or 3 of these guys(non phoenix pyred to protect troops) along with a conventional army+artillery mages casting ice strikes and magma eruptions you could have a good chance of beating ulm(and if you get the maelstrum up you will have extra gems to make these kings)

Note: pheonix pyre, not power.
Although I'm pretty sure your average basalt king (Average??) needs pheonix power for pyre.

Also, you could just retreat into the sea, put up a global or two (Maelstrom...), and wait.
