Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

This thread is for problems and status reports with my server and games hosted on it. Otherwise whenever there is a problem I have to go to five different threads plus answer a dozen PMs. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

If you report a problem, please indicate which game you are referring to (or which port number, that is probably even more helpful).

There was a power outage this morning (Dec 13 2006) that reset all my games and their turn timers. Right now all games are back up, including the Lord of the Gateways for uploads.

And we're only waiting on your turn for the next host of the Newbie #1 game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

But seriously, thanks a bunch for all the hosting. I'm sure it can be difficult and we're all grateful for it!

heh. Yeah the time I allocated to do my turn this morning, I had to spend fixing the server instead http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I didn't realize power in Seattle was so crappy. I'm going to have to get a UPS. Back in Denver I would get about one power failure every year, now its more like every month.

Yea, Sheap thanks for hosting all the games you have. I need my daily gaming fix... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thank you for hosting. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

However, I still can't connect to the "random settings, random nations Started" game.

Re: Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

Server appears to have died again. I'm at work now so I can't do anything about it until I get home, unless it is dead from a power outage, and then it should come back on its own when the power comes back on. Might be 4-5 hours or 4-5 minutes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Sheap December 13th, 2006 08:30 PM

Re: Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

Power is back on at my barn, but the server is still dead. It won't work again until I get home and nuzzle it back to life. So, about 4 hours from now, probably.

Re: Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

OK, server is working again, until the next power outage. Yeesh.

Power failure at 10 PM Pacific time 12/14/2006. All games are back up, all turn timers are reset. But don't take advantage! Play your turns!

Re: Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

Sheap called me and asked me to relay the fact that he's enduring yet another power outage. Seattle is experiencing wierdly strong winds and rain at the moment. I think we can expect power interruptions until the weather returns to normal.

Yeah the server is down indeed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
Anyways I forgot to say a BIG thank you Sheapy, that you are running this server! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

But I am on a totally different time zone, I was asleep or at work, lets hope the weather gets better where you are and those power outages stop.

Re: Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

I'm watching it on the news now. 100+ mph winds and over 1 million people are without power in the Pacific Northwest in the US. So I'd say Sheap's priority is to keep safe and hunker down. The server can wait, good luck and I hope everything came out ok Sheap!

OK i cant connect to anything hosted by sheap, probably due to the weather problems.

An unexpected event has occurred in Seattle (71).

Heavy storms have destroyed crops and many livestock are without power. Tax losses were 200 pounds of gold.

Supposedly, power will be back on by tonight, or maybe tomorrow. Until then, no turns can be played.

Take it easy Sheap, make sure the misfortune has gone away, a few days delay is no big deal.

I hate it when that happens. Nothing sucks like having to graze in the dark.

Don\'t let me miss my turn...

Impending industry server still down, port 2001.

When server is brought back up, can we have 24 hrs back on the clock to submit turns please? This is to avoid missing a turn.

My turn is completed and ready to upload but I after go to bed now, then work, which means I will not be able to upload for 14 hrs or so when I get back home.

Cheers.

Sheap December 18th, 2006 08:50 PM

Re: Don\'t let me miss my turn...

Yes, of course. None of the timers will start with less than 24 hours on them.

Sheap December 19th, 2006 03:35 AM

Re: Don\'t let me miss my turn...

Server is running! All games have been restarted with 24h timer starting now. There is also a new UPS, so brief outages of the sort that caused such trouble a week ago should no longer spoil the fun. But if the power is out for 3 days again, we'll have to wait.

Sheap December 22nd, 2006 06:44 AM

Re: Don\'t let me miss my turn...

I am leaving today for Colorado where I will spend Christmas. I will have Internet access and should be able to play my turns and/or maintain the server while there. However, there is as always some risk of weirdness when I am away.

Re: Don\'t let me miss my turn...

Is there anyway to turn off the turn timer for Folket's Random nation game?

I'll be out of town for 72 hours with no internet access. I'm kind of in a critical situation right now being invaded by two nations.

Thanks,
Chris

I can't connect either. Also I'm about to leave town for tonight and tomorrow so I won't be able to process a turn until late afternoon on Saturday.

If the server is brought back up, can we run quickhost without a timer for at least this weekend? With the holidays coming up it might be hard for some of us to process turns on a daily basis.

Sheap December 22nd, 2006 08:27 PM

Re: Don\'t let me miss my turn...

Getting lots of requests for timer stops. Given the holiday situation I think it is reasonable. I will therefore issue a general proclamation: All games will be untimed quickhost until the 27th. The exception is Concepts of Creation, where the holiday pause rules have already been discussed in the game thread, and will follow that schedule. If any individual game organizers want the games to run with the timer anyway let me know, and I will turn your timer back on.

As for NewbieNuzzling: Server seems to have died from some problem or another. I will try to revive it and will post as I know more.

Re: Don\'t let me miss my turn...

I can connect to the second newbie game(port 2002) but not the first(2000)

Folket December 28th, 2006 09:22 AM

Re: Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

I'm going away 29-30th so I request that the servers I play on continue to have untimed quickhost.

It's the holiday season for many people. People are traveling, visiting friends and family.

Why does this surprise you?

I'm sure it will be back to normal after the new year.

Ironhawk December 28th, 2006 06:40 PM

Re: Sheap\'s Server Support & Status

I travelled also... but took my dom3 cd with me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif It's not that much to ask to spend 10mins on a turn. At night when the relatives & kids have slept for example.

Return of the Sheap

OK, I'm back to normal. NewbieNuzzling will be back up within a day, funny technical problem there. I'm not sure whether to turn the timer back on yet or not. I know Folket has wanted additional untimed QH and it is, after all, the holidays still. Ironhawk always enjoys merciless timers. Opinions? I'm inclined to leave things untimed QH until the 2nd, unless there's strong opinions otherwise.

My sadness is overwhelming. I will make a final attempt to revive the game tonight. If I fail, we either have to send it to Illwinter in the hoeps they can unravel it, or declare the game over due to inclement weather.

Has it really been four days? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Re: Return of the Sheap?

What's wrong with it? Is it giving an error message each time you try and host?

Sheap January 4th, 2007 07:27 AM

Curses.

System crash (again!) All turn timers reset. On the positive side, NewbieNuzzling is working again.

Sheap January 4th, 2007 07:06 PM

Nuzzly Sheap Is Annoyed

Effective for all future games I host (other than blitzes):

Pretender uploads will not count unless they are accompanied by an email containing the pretender password. Spots in long term games are entirely too valuable to waste on AI slots while there are always plenty of subs who are kept out by the laziness of those players who do not bother to store their password for safekeeping with the host.

Sheap January 8th, 2007 06:14 AM

Oh, No, Not Again

Crash of the day. All game timers reset. But NewbieNuzzling and ConceptsOfCreation both generated right before the crash, so no real loss there.

Folket January 13th, 2007 11:12 AM

Re: Oh, No, Not Again

Sheap, have you been reading my messages? Lord of the Gateways is dead. Two out of five people are still playing.

And are you intrested in hosting an other game for me?
