Buying the game online (download)

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to buy&download this game online instead of ordering the box from US.

If not do u know an online store located in Europe?

I played through the demo and i must say that it looks like the definitive fantasy strategy game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

There is no online download version.

in germany you can order it here:

Your own country would help to give some better tips http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Finland...the idea was to find the game a bit cheaper since it is probably the most expensive videogame i've ever seen http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Probably of very high quality and all but the price IMO is way over the top...

This is a hot-button topic. Try the demo, if you like it, buy it.

It won't be available as a download anytime soon.

The price probably won't change appreciably for the next two years, if past games are anything to go by.

That's what it boils down to.

yes...in fact i was hoping for a downloadable version which is usually a bit cheaper.

It's a pity because i would have bought it since i think it is really a great game but that price is really too much...well i guess they have good reasons to charge like that, these games are not that popular i guess.

Well...fair enough

Actually thats a good reason not to have a downloadable version. It doesnt change the number of copies purchased by enough to make it worth taking the chances.

As to its worth, you might check out some of the game reviews by game magazines. I think almost all of them seem to mention that subject (and put it to rest).

For me, it doesnt even compare. Most games of this price lasts for about a month on my machines while this one lasts for years.

Well it is a bit cheaper for both parties since the download doesn't come with the paper manual, the cardboard box , the actual cd + the sleeve etc. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I think that it is just a matter of willingness but i guess they have a good reason to offer only the boxed version.

I'm not gonna die http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif i have enough games to play as of right now, its only that i would have gotten that also since i liked the demo but when i clicked on BUY and saw the price... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Well, just don't buy 2 games you would have purchased in the next time and buy Dominions3 instead. You will not regret it and the handbook is very useful (and great to look up spells or items).

To each his own.

Personally, the money I've spent on the Dominions series down the years has been some of the best value for the $150 I've shelled out. Much better than for many other games. The depth, replay value and everything else has been incredible.

Offering digitial download is not as easy and safe as it seems. Ive been involved in creating some. Its not like offering a patch or a demo. When its been ironed out abit more (and a package is available for offering it like offering a forum or a shopping cart) then it will probably become more common.

Because bandwidth and server maintenance are free? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Not to mention costs for developing and maintaining distribution software :O

Now I agree that I'd like it if eventually every game could be purchased and downloaded directly from the internet (with *.pdf manual and an option for paying extra for a tangible copy with printed manual), we have to realize that that eventual future is not here yet.

Don't worry, many other Finns have already succumbed, and you shouldn't have any troubles finding people to play with. We're trying to eventually gather enough Finns to take over the #dominions IRC channel in Gamesurge. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Has anyone else noticed the latest hot-news press release from Shrapnel?
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...=2&fpart=1

Three of their games have become digital downloads.
Quote:

Shrapnel Games has now made available for immediate pay and play BCT: Brigade
Combat Team, ATF: Armored Task Force, and Raging Tiger: The Second Korean War.
Best of all gamers won't have to make a decision between buying a download version or
a physical version, they'll get both! And for no extra charge!

It looks like its some of the games from one particular developer. I definetly wish Shrapnel the best of luck with this (and then maybe it will expand to other titles http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ).
