Grats for getting the game and warm welcomes to it.
I would suggest early age, since I red in multiple forum threades that it's easier... (And I would like to try multiplayer Caelum in early age. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif )

If you host by mail I would suggest a smaller number of players. If there will be a tcp/ip host, then the more the marrier if it's quickhost 24h...

I have an always on connection and an always on computer. It just seems that hosted games are less trouble than pbem games.

Glory of the gods multiplayer is the only suitable map I think? Orania has too much land and not enough water.

Glory of the Gods multiplayer would work out to around 15 provinces per player regardless if they are land or water nations.

Urraparand would give just under 9.6 per player on land and 11.6 per water player

10-15 prov / player is a good idea. Any map of that size is fine with me; random works too.

With this many players, victory points probably are a good idea. Who's with me?

We can either do victory points or have a gentleman's agreement about a shared victory. It's going to be a looooong game, regardless.

I've never quite understood how VPs work - do you get 1 VP for each special province you own, once per year or something? And how can you tell how many you have?

I presume the number of VPs chosen for victory is such that it doesn't finish until quite late on when the winner's already fairly obvious? It'd be a real shame if the game got cut short prematurely, so I'm sort of inclined towards the gentleman's agreement. But I've heard a few people say they think the fact that the devs have added victory points is a really good thing, so maybe they'd be more fun than I'm imagining. I suppose it could add an element of excitement to have key provinces to battle over.

Just some thoughts, no real conclusions there!

Oh also, I see that we have no Vanheim or Helheim. That might be a good thing, being as they seem to cause so much upset. Perhaps you should change the post title to "Glory of the Gods EA Game - Closed" or something?

You guys could also consider cumulative VPs as the winning objective. It can make games not so long.
