10-player EA game - started

As per a request from LlamaBeast:
No I do not generally take requests for hosting special games, but I will accept suggestions for a new default game. That way I can script it so that its easy to start one, and easy to clean up.

SO.....
Here is a mid-sized map which can support 10 players. You might squeeze in a few more but if it crashes on start then oh well. I wont clean it up but I will just kick the script to start another mid game. This is on the minor server so I only plan to start one of these at a time.

Era 1
game mid_spruit
server game.dom3minions.com
port 8098

Re: someone run this game

I don't think I saw the original context, Gandalf - should people who want to play just join the game?

Is there anything unusual about it?

Cerlin December 19th, 2006 03:55 PM

Re: someone run this game

If there isnt I'd give this game a go myself http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Your servers rock btw...

Gandalf Parker December 19th, 2006 04:31 PM

Re: someone run this game

I dont usually "run" games. I just make them available on my server. So if someone wants to spear head this one, go for it. Its there. I might not poke my head in here much so someone take lead. Round up players, iron out conflicts, decide when to start it, contact me if something goes wrong.

Nothing unusual. Well the map is abit. Here is its image.
http://game.dom3minions.com/mid_4.jpg

Here is the command line for it.
dom3 -g mid_spruit --port 8098 -STd --statfile --scoredump
--preexec /home/dom3/dominions3/savedgames/mid_spruit/pre.sh
--postexec /home/dom3/dominions3/savedgames/mid_spruit/post.sh
--era 1 --indepstr 5 --hofsize 10 --magicsites 65 --uploadmaxp 10 --renaming --mapfile mid_4.map
--masterpass @@@@@@@ -q --hours 24

ooops it looks like I did cap it at 10 players so hurry and get your nations. Later on I might setup a webdir for it and have the scoreboard and stats file go there automatically.

Now Im off to take action against a brute force attack against the system. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Edited - got rid of earlier post, instead here's the final player listing:

Sauromatia - llamabeast
Agartha - Cerlin
Lanka - Shovah32
Ermor - UninspiredName
Niefelheim - DrPraetorius
Mictlan - Strages Sanctus
Caelum - Maltrease

Cerlin December 19th, 2006 07:29 PM

Re: someone run this game

I gave it a go! Im agartha (again) because I like them, especially on big maps! I look at our smaller game as practice for ones like this. Look forward to playing with you again if you do it.

Shovah32 December 19th, 2006 07:30 PM

Re: someone run this game

Im in as lanka.

ps: Gandalf im guessing you put those @'s in to block out the masterpassword?

Gandalf Parker December 19th, 2006 07:45 PM

Re: someone run this game

Yes, I always include a master password in case someone stops sending files and the other players want that person set to computer player instead of just sitting idle for someone to take. Be aware that its a one-way trip. A person cannot be set to AI temporarily and then changed back.

And the game will automatically start at 10 players. I left the start-button in place in case you all decided to start at it at fewer players.

Thanks Gandalf

I'm in as Ermor. Like Pythium, except with heavy cavalry and easier massing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Unless Llamabeast is playing as Ermor again, in which case I'll try Oceania. If they're not allowed, Marverni.

llamabeast December 19th, 2006 09:26 PM

Re: someone run this game

Oh okay I give in, I'll play. After being desperate to get into a game for so long, I can't just sit and watch the forum for a game with free slots! Man, three games at once! Hope I don't go crazy.

I'll be Sauromatia. Also a bit like Pythium I guess. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Gandalf, do you think it would be a good idea for me to start a new thread, so I can change the title etc., put player listings in the first post etc.? If so, can this thread be deleted, or do we just let it drift into obscurity?

Cerlin December 19th, 2006 09:34 PM

Re: someone run this game

You could just ask him to change the title, which would work better for recruiting, perhaps?

I can change the title of this thread if you want.
What should it be?

Ah, I'm in as Niefelheim.

Strages Sanctus December 20th, 2006 12:54 AM

I connected as mictlan.

Edit - got rid of out-of-date player listing.

Re: someone run this game

We've had six for a while. I wouldn't mind a less crowded game.

I reckon we should leave it a little longer, just to give people from all time zones a chance to see this thread.

Maltrease December 20th, 2006 03:17 PM

Re: someone run this game

I just jumped in as Caelum. Thanks for leaving the game open a little while longer. I've been itching to play Caelum in a multiplayer game.

Cerlin December 20th, 2006 03:18 PM

Re: someone run this game

Ohhh Hopefully you play it better than I do, I might learn something (I really love them as a race but im not spectacular.)

Reverend Zombie December 20th, 2006 03:46 PM

Re: someone run this game

I'll join if there's a spot left when I get home tonight.

Tyrant December 20th, 2006 05:30 PM

Re: someone run this game

I'll tqake one of the remaining spots, not sure which nation yet, i'll pick soon.

shawn December 20th, 2006 05:33 PM

Re: someone run this game

Edit: Never mind. I got it straightened out. I'm really looking forward to this since I'm done with school for a bit.

Cerlin December 20th, 2006 05:34 PM

Re: someone run this game

Hmmm not sure It should work. Did you create it through the menu and not from actually creating a game? that makes a difference

I'm afraid I don't think we do actually, we're all filled up.

Re: someone run this game

Oh well, actually it looks like you're in! Sneaky. Make sure you don't go having any nasty crazy blesses on that there Vanheim. It seems that high-bless Vanheim is a bit controversial.

So Tyrant and Reverend Zombie, it looks like a race between you guys for the last spot.

Cerlin December 20th, 2006 06:55 PM

It has begun

The game auto started when i uploaded. I'm stuck in a lake and there's a R'yleh player who does not seem to have posted here. I'll go ahead and play this out, but this seems like a doomed start.

Strages Sanctus December 20th, 2006 07:51 PM

Re: It has begun

Shawn is Riyleh. Also aren't most of your troops amphib so you can get out the lake. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

llamabeast December 20th, 2006 08:00 PM

Re: It has begun

Right, the final player listing is on the first page (not the first post, but the first post I made).

Good luck everyone!

Bummer about your lake Tyrant. Hope you manage to expand okay, I think you have some amphibious troops? You can tell any that protest at crawling out of the water that it's "evolution" and good for them.

Gandalf - if you happen to be watching, would you mind changing the thread title if you get a chance, to "Started" instead of "Recruiting"? Brilliant, thanks.

I haven't even had a chance to look at the game or my starting position, but I'll get to it tomorrow morning. At least now I know I start next to Tyrant.

I do have the uber A4 bless on my vanheim troops, tremble in fear of the 20% air shields.

Edit: scratch that, no bless now =)

Re: It has begun

It's saying it can't find game.dom3minions.com's IP and asking me to double-check the address. Anybody know what could be causing it? This is before I even punch in the port...

Gandalf Parker December 21st, 2006 08:13 PM

Re: It has begun

Everything checks at my end so Im guessing its with the DNS service of your connection. You might try just putting in the 63.199.8.157 that its trying to look up.

UninspiredName December 21st, 2006 08:42 PM

Re: It has begun

I'm pretty sure it's my side, considering it occasionally works. Thanks for the help, though, I'll try just putting in the IP.

EDIT: Success. Thanks again.

Re: It has begun

Is R'lyeh planning to stale while his capital is being sieged? If so, set him to computer control?

Agartha is also looking to stale - maybe we should switch to a 36 hour host interval so people have a little more wiggle room?

Cerlin January 12th, 2007 05:55 PM

Re: It has begun

Pah! I am not stale! Only one turn where my god sleeped. I had to be at school all day, but I took my next turn and all the saved up money is nice, yay new forts! Im good for now on turn speed and if I dont check them at night thats my fault (I actually only missed this last turn by about 5 minutes ><) haha but thats ok. Keep playing! Killing Mictlan is fun.

Rant

The prophet of Knife Bright Insight, Iron Lord of the Jotun, speaks the decree of the True God: that the inexecrable cult of Nur Manthu, practiced amongst the degenerate Vanir, must be expunged from the world.

Lest We be thought unjust, we proclaim the 7 vile practices, which designate the nation and cult of Nur Manthu for destruction, in accordance with natural law:

1. Sophistry. The Van are an intrinsically deceitful race, ever cloaked in lies and falsehood. Their nature is so despicable that, if were did not act to destroy their unnatural and false God, they might justify any act of vileness through their twisted logic.

2. Pederasty. The unnatural love between man and boy child, which is the cornerstone of the cult of Nur Manthu and of the transfer of warrior practices between the Van, is an abomination to the True God, whose purview is the fertile power of the pure earth.

3. Incontinence. A physical side effect of the unnatural practices mentioned in point 2. The soiling of the body is a consequence of the degeneracy of the mind, and it is thus doubly offensive to the True God.

4. Cannibalism. Those young boys whom the Van do not use to fulfill one unnatural appetite are designated for another. The natural order of the world describes that the greater should feast upon the lesser, thus the Jotun feast upon men and the men feast upon their defeated foes, or the beasts of the field. For any thing to consume the raw flesh of the young of his own kind, particularly the reproductive organs, is despicable above all other practices.

5. Sacrifice. The cult of Nur Manthu practices blood sacrifice in a fashion that is in accord with neither the heavenly bodies, nor the natural cycles of life and death. The Gygja proclaim these practices Anathema, and a threat to the natural order which must be ended at any cost.

6. Barbarism. The Van have foully murdered several Augur Elder of the empire of Ermor - men of wisdom and learning seeking only to spread the benefits of civilization among the ungrateful and intractable savages. For leading his degenerate worshippers into the crime of murdering these well intentioned scholars, and their legionaire bodyguards - who displayed courage far beyond their humble physical stature - Nur Manthu itself must be expunged from the world and bound forever in darkness.

7. Weakness. Also a consequence of the emasculating practice of pederasty: the Van are weak, like little girls, not only in flesh but in spirit. Such weakness cries out for retribution.

Thus Knife Bright Insight, who is the True God, decrees, and thus shall it be!
