End-of-war German OOB
Hi.
I've been a SP player since I bought Steel Panthers 1 new...I still have Steel Panthers III installed using virtualPC; I first downloaded SP:WAW around version 3, I think. Anyway, during all this time, over 10 years now, I've been wanting to play a game where I could have a what-if campaign that went from 1945-1950 as the germans (mainly assuming that the attack on the USSR did not take place until much later in the war, or possibly the early removal of hitler, but that is sort of beside the point). I can ALMOST do that with SPMBT; Bulgaria, France, Romania, Turkey, Spain all have war-era german vehicles. As best I can tell, though, there doesn't seem to be any Tigers I or II, Jagdpanthers or jagdtigers, Hummels, Sturmpanzer IV, Wurfrahmen 40, Kugelblitz, Panther II, E- series, PzKpfw IX, PzKpfw X, Schmetterling, Rheinbote, Feuerlilie, Taifun, Kramer X-7, etcetera. Is there any chance that someone has allready made this OOB, possibly for green/red OOB? |
Re: End-of-war German OOB
The jagdpanther is in the french OOB. There should be a Hummel in the syrian OOB.As you probably noticed there are also the panther, most of the versions of the PZIII/IV, Stug III/IV, Jagdpanzer IV, Hetzer, halftracks, as well additional stuff (PZI , maybe marder, planes, artillery etc).Basically pretty much everything that was in mid-late war use except the tiger family and some others variants. No Brummbär or the experimental stuff. The PzKpfw IX and PzKpfw X were just a propaganda ploy anyway.

Re: End-of-war German OOB
After a cup of coffe my memory has told me that, a long time ago (it seems like a millennia), some guy made just such an OOB using West Germany as a base.It was limited however to items I described. Basically if you do not want to deal with importing icons the Panther/Jagdpanther is the biggest toy you can play with. Some digging in the old yahoo groups might uncover it.

Re: End-of-war German OOB
On the other hand SPWW2 allows you to use all the German equipment but only in a timeline until december '46, but then you could also pretend it's later and just use the quipment...

Re: End-of-war German OOB
Thank you!
The file on the yahoo group seems to be corrupt; I posted there to see if anyone had a better copy. And thanks, Marcello, I hadn't seen the Jagdpanther in the french OOB; you mention seeing a StugIV & a Hetzer, do you remember where? I found the 88's in the spanish OOB. I'm sort of surprised that this isn't already done to death; in HOI2 I've fought WW2 as both the Byzantine Empire & the CSA, I'm sort of shocked no one has a mod for SPMBT allowing for WW2 to continue longer, maybe to the point where the Allied tanks were reaching parity with the known-to-exist german late war equipment. I know, I know, do it myself. |
Re: End-of-war German OOB
There should be several Hetzer around. One of them is unit n. 28 in the Hungary OOB.The Stug IV isn't actually in the game as an unit (or at least I never saw it) but the icon is provided, n. 2089.
Next best thing is checking the file WINSPMBT_MasterIconList, which (at least in my computer) can be found here: C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPMBT\Game Data\Design Using a search function you can find what you need. Note that the naming of the icons follow very inconsistent patterns, so you will have to be creative with the search function. "I'm sort of shocked no one has a mod for SPMBT allowing for WW2 to continue longer" Because both SPWAW and SPWW2 can deal with "longer WW2" in a more effective manner, as they are designed to deal with WW2 in first place. The icons available in SPMBT are here to represent the limited postwar usage of german WW2 armor, from the french love affair with the Panther to the syrian PZ IV soldiering on until the six days war, to the postwar production of the Hetzer and haltracks. As such most of the mid-late war stuff is here but some important elements are missing, like the Tiger. |
Re: End-of-war German OOB
I have an OOB and some files you might like to take a look at. they have something to do with that. You can get panzer IVs and IIIs as well as Panthers, Hummels, JgdPz IV, Bf 109, SdKfz 251s, Stugs, a bomber and transport plane and also the experimental Helicopters (I think). Everything else you can just port over from WinSPWW2. That is what I did.

Re: End-of-war German OOB
Thinking about it, if you check out my "What if units" post you will find a panther II (E50) an E 100 and an E75 (Kingtiger III) as well as a Loewe (precursor to the Tiger II I think) and some special IFVs.

Re: End-of-war German OOB
I have a German OOB (No. 35) which replaces Denmark (same infantry colour scheme) and contains a lot of the late WWII stuff (except the Tiger I and some of the PjJgr.) I spliced those unit on to the end of the West German stuff (all of the allied input removed of course). It is more of a sort of Imperial German OOB in that the SS is renamed ISS (Die imperialische Schutsstaffel) and the later German Jaeger have been re jigged so they are a heavy infantry unit. The M113 are also kept in but have been renamed and the icons have been changed to something a little more German. The old WWII units are there including some airplanes too. There is some hypothetical stuff in there and some of the work still needs to be done. Hypothetical heirs to the Jagdtiger and a series of Jagdpanzer Leopards.
The Luftwaffe is extensively represented (albeit some stats might be a little off but...)The Stukas, ME 262s, Me 109s etc are all accurate and there are a lot of 60s 70s Bundeswehr VTOL aircraft in there too. |
Re: End-of-war German OOB
RecruitMonty, looks like what you are coming up with is exactly what I wanted, or at least close enough.
It really should be a complete game; I'm thinking the strategic overview from Falcon 4 (that would show in-theater level maps how your units efforts effect the overall situation, if you capture THIS supply depot the overall opposing force has less resources temporarily, etc), SPMBT tactical, and a variation of the old Panzer General 1 or 2 for campaign elements. While I could, possibly, if I devoted myself to it fanatically to the exclusion of all other things, program the strategic overview thing, the rest is quite a way beyond me. I'd be happy enough with a modded OOB. |
Re: End-of-war German OOB
Well I am not too sure if the first part of your plan is feasible but my project has certainly grown in scale. Most of the units, if not all, have been included. I am still a long way from release though.

Re: End-of-war German OOB
I've been sort of lazily waiting around for someone else to do the work for me; while I have seen some really nice icons and graphics, I've yet to see a OOB.
I've whipped one up; On one hand, I'm sure it is full or errors, uses the wrong icons, bad unit graphics, and in the instances where I added something not previously in the game, I'm sure I messed that up also. On the other hand, it actually exists, and you can use it. so, here it is, a Bulgarian OOB (v0.2) for SP:MBT that has all the War-era German equipment I could find, stuff that was just re-branded German equipment, and a few things that were not anywhere I could find in SPMBT OOB files, like the Tiger II (King Tiger). I'm having some problems adding attachments to my posts here, so here is a link to the file, and here is a link to the discussion forum I've set up for anyone who needs support. If you like it, hate it, use it, want a change, have a change, have made a change, have a suggestion, etc. please feel free to contact me either here or at the above linked support forum. |
Re: End-of-war German OOB
Good day
Inline with your wish I've been playing around with an Alt History Timeline and was making good headway with it as well, until I  deleted the freakin' OOB's and shp files. However I've not given up on the idea and hope to redevelop things starting in the Fall (Sept-Oct). Now what I was working out (with tons of assistance in the icon department etc) can be glimpsed at in the winSPWWII AAR Forums, several AAR's are there under my handle and KG Griffon. My vision on this in the mid term is to be able to generate campaigns using my MODS however a set campaign is really where I'm heading in the long term. As far as the SHP files I'm hoping to make the whole thing as portable as possible. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome and I haunt both CAMO forums, plus I'm available through PM and regular E-mail. paganize, I looked at your links but can't seem to find a file to DL, I'll check again at home it maybe a firewall problem.
