Necromancer3 has posted the 3rd released shipset for SE5. The set is a Star Trek Federation set based on the motion picture (Kirk et all) era.

Is it ported? Obviously the race portrait is from SFB 2. Nice ships, I shall convert them to Terran Empire forthwith.

I also found out the skins are reversed for some reason when you put them on a ship.

Just put it in and play.

This is a great ship set, it will make playing much more enjoyable. However, can someone contact the author and ask them if it is possible to brighten some of those pics? For example the Frigate is way to dark.

How did you do that; just rename? I am off to convert these for the Republic. If anyone is interested in reading the historical write up it is in the After Action Reports Sub-Forum.

You misunderstand SJ; I am not looking to convert it into a copy-cat ship set. I am trying to change the pics my current in progress game is using. Right now I have renamed everything that started with "Fed" to "Abbidon" and all the pictures seem to work right. Is there any others I need to change the name of? What about the files that start with "terran", "HUM", and "ff1". I don't see a counter part for those in the original Abbidon folder and I am reluctant to change anything I don't need to.

Everything outside of combat appears *ahem* to be working correctly. In combat I am getting the Abbidon ships still; not surprising though. What I am wondering is, is there a way to modify the shipset the save game is calling on for that empire? That would make it so much quicker, otherwise I have figured out what the "terran", "HUM", and "ff1" are and how they relate to the "ABB" files. I can change them over but don't think the full integrity of the shipset will be maintained by the loss of the extra textures. Why are there so many for each ship size anyway?

That is true if you only use the set for a human empire. Shipsets are absolutely mod-dependent when you factor AI into the mix. None of the AI in these shipsets will work in the balance mod as AI empires (or with ministers enabled as a human player) without replacing their AI files with something from the balance mod.

The TMP set has no AI, so it will probably work in balance mod as an AI empire with the mod's default AI files.

What is the deal with this trend of quoting a person in bold? That just seems so tacky in my opinion.

It's because the quote UBB code makes for gigantic, ultra-tacky formatting. It adds some 9 or 10 "lines" of space for a single-line quote. Just look how huge your post 3 down/up is with the quote box. It's so much easier to read when the quote boxes aren't used. :-\ The bolding is because it is really easy to just delete the quote part of the tags added when you click the "quote" link on a post.

At the time I just meant to edit the skins and create another folder for Terran empire ships, turned out to be harder than I thought. Rather than rename every ship I tried to change/remove the original folder but it kept insisting that the folder was in use and wouldn't allow it. I had to restart my computer just to rename the folder.

I haven't done anything about it but I was going to replace the ships I already use in one game so they would change in game. The terran skins are for the ships. They don't really need to be called fed as long as the x-files know what images to use. Interesting that each ship uses multiple skins, probably because they are so complicated.As for the frigate being so dark, well all you need to do is edit the picture or skin and change the brightness. I was thinking of making the hulls darker anyway, but I just did the cruiser to test, thus discovering that the text was reversed. For my screenshot it was easier to mirror the picture. It would be slightly more difficult to reverse the skin as there is a orange square in one corner.

I managed to get it working by changing all the files named "Fed" to "Abbidon". Then I did a replace in the X Files and Slots text files for "Fed" to "Abbidon". After that everything was good and all models are working great in and out of combat. Now as to brightening anything I wouldn't even know where to start. The most experience I have is adding rank to my avatar and pressing a button that says "Reduce Red Eye". I agree that the ship sets are a bit too bright; however, the frigate is way too dark. If you could lighten it some and reduce the flags that would be way to cool.

Does anyone know what this author is working on next; Klingon and Romulan maybe?

If anyone is willing, a TOS shipset would be lovely I think. I've always loved the original Connie class and it's look.

As soon as AT figures out the best way to convert .MOD to .X, I can pump out the required files and bmps for the models, if someone will volunteer to put the shipset together...
