10 player hosted middle era slower game [Started]

v3.04
Glory of the gods Multiplayer
special site frequency 50
score graphs are disabled
quickhost and 36h (After a month or so, we can talk about changing it to something slower)

the rest will be defaults

ip 168.103.111.135
port 6889
My ip is not static, and I will update in here when it changes. The server is stable and if you have trouble connecting, the ip has probably changed. Post or pm me.

I will be shinuyama

The game will start when about 10 people have signed up.
We can discuss changes to the setup while people are uploading, but there will be no mods.

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

Be sure to set a secret master password. At 36h it will quickly get irritating if someone stops playing and every turn ends up going to 36h.

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I've selected Mictlan. Also, I need a refresher on uploading pretenders. So far, I have changed Mictlan to Human controlled. What else needs to be done?
Thanks

@yellowcactus
That is all you need to do. Also if you change your pretender you can just reconnect and select mictlan again. Make sure you have a password on it.

@Gandalf
Will do, thanks.

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

How many provinces on the map? Or more importantly, the ratio to players? 10 to 1? 15 to 1? 20 to 1?

Wazooking January 2nd, 2007 04:46 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

227 land and 47 sea.

So about 22 to 27 per player depending on if you count the sea or not.

Sorry Catquiet, Micah, and Kydorias, I am going to leave it at 10.

I will probably start the game tomorrow around 8pm eastern standard time, if all the pretenders are in.

We are waiting on die51 to upload his pretender.

RonD January 3rd, 2007 01:03 AM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I'm still playing around with pretender ideas (even though I uploaded something), so I appreciate the wait until Wed evening.

OK - my real pretender is now uploaded. Thanks for waiting.

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

Damn this one filled up fast, I wasn't expecting it to start before the weekend. I might miss a turn if you start tomorrow already, depending on when everyone ends up playing his turns, though with a bit of luck I should be allright. (I'll be gone for about 40hrs fridayevening (CET) till sunday early afternoon.)

Edit: today apparently, not tomorrow http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Let's rock.

Nice, I just played a new turn, so unless somehow everyone manages to play this turn in the next couple of hours I actually won't miss my turn http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Have fun with the weekend all.

RonD January 5th, 2007 01:37 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I see no reason why anyone should have to risk staling on account of a weekend trip. I'm all in favor of stopping the timer for a day or 2.

Wazooking January 6th, 2007 12:51 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I agree and in the spirit of the slow game, I will set it to quickhost only.

Amhazair January 7th, 2007 05:54 AM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

Thanks for the effort guys. I was going home to my folks for the Bachelor party of my sister (well, the one of the guy she's going to marry), so the idea was to stay over at my folks for the nights before and after that. But since it got quite fun, and quite late/early, I decided to skip bed and come straight back to my place with the first train of the day http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. I'll be playing my turn soon.

Also, I can warn you already: In two weeks I'll be gone a couple of days again for another party http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Meglobob January 7th, 2007 12:25 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

Why not leave it just on no timed quickhost? So far everyone seems to be getting there turn in pretty fast.

If a player starts stalling, you can switch the timer back on.

Wazooking January 7th, 2007 11:32 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I dont mind either way.

Anyone else have an opinion?

RamsHead January 8th, 2007 01:27 AM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I would prefer to keep the timer on, but I won't complain either way.

Speaking of which, I probably need to take my turn.

Evilhomer January 8th, 2007 01:02 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

keep the timer on unless someone askes for a temporary pause and have a reason why they can't do a turn.

RonD January 9th, 2007 12:32 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I consistently have a devil of a time get my turn file downloaded from this server - is it just me or do the other players have the same problem? I have yet to get a full download of the current turn (#8, I think), using 2 different computers on 2 totally separate net connections. If the early (100kb) files are this much trouble, what will it be like when the files are 500-1000kb?

I ask because I'm going to need a replacement in this game. I've had a ton of long-term workload dumped on me, and I need to cut way back on extraneous activities for a while. But I want to be able to tell potential fill-ins what they might be getting themselves into.

Evilhomer January 9th, 2007 01:45 PM

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I also had this problem, but later on it went well (mayb it was a temporary thing)

I'm having no problem at all. (and my computer is piss-poor, and needs serious replacing)

Well, as I promised two weeks ago, my sister is getting married on friday, so I'll be out of town - and away from the computer - from tomorrow afternoon till saturday evening.

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

Damn, I was quite confident of being able to play one last turn today before leaving, but it seems that won't happen.

Damn you Ermor, Damn you! There's only one possible answer to your atrocious delaying tactics and that's WAR. Immediate, brutal, war!

Erm.... actually... you're quite big. Heheh... this was a joke obviously, a big joke. Hahahahaah, so funny... I'm not mad at you, not at all. Nonono. Let's be friends and delay together shall we? Yes, be friends.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Anyways, I'm off. Enjoy the last working days before the weekend, I know I will. (Enjoy, that is, not work http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif)

Ermor is damned already, the only question is will they inflict that damnation on the world?

Latest turn done...sorry for the delay everyone...I am not stalling, indeed Ermor is suited by a fast moving game, keep your foe off balance! It's mundane life getting in the way...you know work, gale force winds, torrential rain, flooding...I am surprised I still have internet access...the gales have cut power to loads of homes.

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

I owe all of you my apologies. I was planning to get back home earlier today and play my turn, but there are several foreign visitors staying here at my sisters place for my wedding, and we've been having such tremendous fun (at the wedding, before the wedding and after the wedding) that I just had to stay a bit longer. (Especially this Swiss girl that's staying here has me quite intrested http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif )I'll be getting home tomorrow evening instead. (wich would be within 24 hours)

Re: 10 player hosted middle era slower game

To liven things up a bit:

Hagathor inhaled deeply, the smell of smoke, charcoal and burning flesh filling his lungs and lifting his spirits. The enemy had actually put up a good fight, for mere humans. The infantry, clad in their heavy black plate armour, strong enough to turn away the blows from lesser beings, and supported by several large drakes pulled from the bowels of the earth had shown remarkable courage rushing on through the storms of fire called down by him and his brethren, and had actually managed to hold fast for a little while, untill at last their fragile flesh started blackening from the mere presence of the proud Abyssian bodies in front of them. A hundred archers had filled the sky with a cloud of arrows as thick as the cloud of smoke rising from their target's bodies, so thick that some even managed to penetrate our warriors armor, and on the left flank a spirited charge from the enemies so-called black knights had briefly threatened to break through the Abyssian battle-lines, before they were finally surrounded and pulled from their horses by sheer weight of numbers.

But in the end all the humans courage availed them little. After all, who could withstand the power of the fire burning in the chosen people of Abyssia's veins? Or the burning fires falling from the sky at his orders of course... A soft chuckle escaped from his lips. While it was true that his army had suffered some losses, Ulm had lost every single one of those brave - or foolish - armour clad soldiers it had send his way, wether on foot or by horse. Only a few score archers had managed to flee the battlefield, the fire burning hot on their heels.

After this battle, and the even more decisive one from only a few months ago, little remained of the once-proud Ulmish armies, and their Capitol lay only some weeks march away from the battlefield.

As first human nation in the world (probably much to Marignon's envy) Ulm had come to understand the true power of fire...

It is true. The Ulm empire is crumbling in shadow and flame. We overestimated the effectiveness of arbalests against heavily armored foes. Purchase of more heavy troops would have definitely been a better investment.

I definitely learned alot about Ulm and Abysia. I will try and give one major fight in my home castle, go out with a bang and then will probably go AI.

Attached to this post is the record of my last turn. This turn I lost my secondary castle, my main army lost a fight in another province but the one bright spot is my uber assasin takes on Abysia's Anethemant and 5 bodyguards and takes them all down, to chinatown!

Ulm

The Acroscephalian commanders who ordered the greatest god, Whirlwind, to attack that independent province will receive some sevre punishment. It is not the loss of Whirlwind that has saddened the nation, but the loss of the Solaris equipment. Unfortunately Whirlwind will never be her awe +12 self again.
