Wrath of Opposing Fates (WOOF) - Wraithlord Wins!

This PBEM game will be played on the map "Dawn of Dominions" which came with the latest patch.

The settings will be:

12 players (Early Era):

Ermor - djo
Marverni - Boron
Arco - Jurri
Sauromatia - Pashadawg
Vanheim - Ewierl
Oceania - Meglobob
Agartha - Ygorl
C'tis - Rev. Zombie
Kailasa - Cainehill
Ulm - Bluebird
Caelum - Wraithlord
Helheim - Migaaresno

Victory condition: There will be 12 VP provinces (one in each player's capital; non-cumulative), and a player must control 5 to win the game.
Research: Easy
Graphs on.
Renaming on.
Indies: 5.
No mods.

One problem is that the scenario does not give the host a chance to change these settings, so we will need to edit the file. Does anybody know how to do that already? I can figure it out, but it would take some learning!

The turn schedule would be as follows (PBEM):
Turns 1 - 14 would be hosted daily
Turns 15 and after would be hosted 3 times per week: Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

I plan to start the game on SUNDAY. Players, please send me your pretenders (remember no mods).

Thanks.

Pasha

Pasha has a mac and mods are currently bugged for them...

Otherwise I would have joined this game and campaigned for CB. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Wrath of Opposing Fates (WOOF) - Starts Friday

The newest Version of Worthy heroes should work with macs, I removed all the #clear commands, which seemed to cause the buggy behaviour.

If someone drops out, Id happily take his place.

Re: Wrath of Opposing Fates (WOOF) - Starts Friday

I will try out the latest Worthy Heroes Mod to see if my Mac can take it's heat.

For what it is worth, there is the following waiting list of possible players: djo, Mind Elemental, Dragonfire11, and Turin. (The map limits the game to 12 players.)

I didn't realize that there were different officially-determined difficulty levels... Or that I'm starting right next to Jurri (again!)
Well, at least I'm easier than he is. Of course, if he whomps me, I have to feel especially bad!

PashaDawg January 3rd, 2007 03:44 PM

Re: Wrath of Opposing Fates (WOOF) - Starts Friday

I think you can disregard the officially determined difficulty levels. I don't see why Caelum's starting location is so difficult. It seems to me that Ulm and Marverni will have a harder time. Ermor also might feel squashed in the middle.

How lucky for us all that you'll once again be holding Jurri in check! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/egg.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/egg.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/egg.gif

Jurri January 3rd, 2007 03:46 PM

Re: Wrath of Opposing Fates (WOOF) - Starts Friday

Hah, the scenario-designer must have been high when listing the difficulties... I mean, the 'SUPER HARD' Caelum starts with 3 provinces! Being Caelum, that won't even slow down the start of his initial expansion by a turn as it would any other nation (since the army can just fly over the provinces). So I rather think either the difficulties indicate how easy it is to fight against said nation instead of how hard the position is, or just generally lack in reasoning http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (It is definitely not a big negative to only have 2 neighboring provinces, especially for Caelum who wants to build more forts quickly anyways and doesn't need resources all that much in the long run.)

I tried removing the #scenario-tag from the .map-file, and it restored the settings while retaining the special start locations; dunno if it has any other effects, though.

(I don't think CB's Pretenders- or Scales-portions use #clear either, so it should be a piece of cake to hack together a mac-friendly version of those, if there was a need.)

I think im going for quad bless whit good scales now.

Re: Wrath of Opposing Fates (WOOF) - Starts Friday

Jurri:

If I remember correctly, Jason Lutes used 'number of neighbours' (or was it 'number of indy provinces adjacent to capital'?) to determine difficulty.

Meglobob January 3rd, 2007 08:09 PM

Re: Wrath of Opposing Fates (WOOF) - Starts Friday

I think Oceania deserves the 'easy' classification. No other water nation, means Oceania would be extremely difficult to defeat. So you have a very safe position, however expanding on land will be difficult as your blessed troops are underwater only.

Is there no restriction on bless strategy in this game?

Also, I am unfamilar with the cave provinces on this map. Any unusual rules about them that I should know about?

Ygorl January 3rd, 2007 08:32 PM

Worthy Heroes

Turin is correct. The latest version of the Worthy Heroes mod works on a Mac. Yay!

Would players like to play with it?

Ygorl January 3rd, 2007 11:13 PM

Re: Worthy Heroes

As far as Worthy Heroes, I'm easy. I like the mod generally...

Re: Worthy Heroes

So will it be the worthy heroes mod? Can somebody post a link?

Meglobob January 4th, 2007 09:40 AM

Re: Worthy Heroes

Oceania only gets 1 new hero, so I vote NO, especially as I will after redesign my pretender, already sent it in.

A selfish attitude but my god is selfish, he wants it ALL and he wants it NOW or at least in 50+ turns from now when I have squished you all with my squidgy tentacles... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Start Sunday

Hi All:

One player is going to be out of town Friday - Sunday. So, we will be starting the game on Sunday instead of Friday. We are all big boys and have played this game for a while. So, the short delay should not be more than we can handle. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I like Worthy Heroes, but don't want to force it on folks who'd rather play vanilla.

PashaDawg January 4th, 2007 10:11 PM

Worthy Heroes - - Not Used this Time

I count only 1 player who is enthusiastic about using the Worthy Heroes mod. Most players are "easy," "indifferent", "unforceful," etc.

So, I hereby exercise my executive authority as the host and declare that we shall NOT use any mods. Maybe next time.

Ermor Slot Open

Caduceus has decided to drop out of the game to save time for real life. Imagine! So, the Ermor slot is now open. The waiting list is djo, Mind Elemental, Dragonfire11, and Turin. I sent an email to djo this morning offering him the slot.

Players should send me their pretenders. I hope to start the game on Sunday. So far, I have pretenders for:

Agartha
Caelum
Kailasa
Oceania
Ulm
Vanheim

Thanks.

Another eventful turn is out. Boy! This is an ambitious crowd of power hungry pretenders! In front of the bunch, Arco looks like he's drugged his horses to sprint hard... can he keep it up much longer before hitting neighbors?

Helheim's horses are running hard, too? What did he feed those things for breakfast? No doubt something unnatural stolen from the afterlife.

Deadline for the turn is Thursday at 9pm Boston time.

pwnd!

How does that old song go... "For the lack of a Move and Patrol order, the kingdom was lost"? Well, more for the exact wrong confluence of my mistake, my long-term strategy, my tactic, and an opponent's surprises. Oh Valhalla, how you have abandoned us.

Ouch. Well, the Vanir are far from gone, but it's going to be hard to catch up from a kick so early and intensely unlucky. These are the ways a multiplayer-newbie learns, I suppose, but it's a pain to get knocked out of the running so early.

But hey, anyone who plans to take punitive strikes on Helheim in the future has an ally http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Delay

2 players have not played their turn, and Ygorl will be out of town on Saturday. I will postpone hosting until Saturday morning, and the next turn will be due on Sunday night.

By the way, how strict do players want me to be about handing out stale turns if a player fails to get his turn in on time?

Pasha

Meglobob January 13th, 2007 02:11 AM

Re: Delay

Personally, I prefer a player to take his turn.

If that means a delay of upto 48hrs fine. Longer than that, stale them...
