Something strange happened...
There I was playing a SP game with Man when my pretender suddenly disappeared from the game. Yes, I DO mean disappeared. One turn he was there, the next, after a battle I won without casualties he was not. I checked and rechecked the actual comat and he was no there from the beggining of the battle. So, I thought about using "Call God" and verything would be ok... some twenty turns later still no effect. I am new to the game and would be delighted if someone could tell me what is going on. It is a bit hard for me to start all over, after conquering some 30 provincies in a map of 450...
Thank you in advance. |
Re: Something strange happened...
Bug. Pretenders are not supposed to just disappear like that. The devs might be able to find something out from the turn file.

Re: Something strange happened...
Fine. Can some kind sould tell me how long it will take to "Call the God" to work? I checked the manual in units orders and Call God was no there.
If I am unable to call my pretender back I will be at a huge disadvantage... |
Re: Something strange happened...
Call God is described on P. 52 (as per the index of the manual)

Re: Something strange happened...
To call back your god if he died (the "call god" order should only be available if he did), you must accumulate at least 40 holy levels : for exemple, if you have 5 second-level priests with this order, you will accumulaire 5x2=10, so it will take 4 turns
Your god will then appear in your capitol (make sure that you still control this province, or your god might die again versus the heretics !) |
Re: Something strange happened...
Yep!
Thanks! But I think more than 40 levels have been called... |
Re: Something strange happened...
Could your god have vanished into space and time/been banished to inferno or anything like that?
|
Re: Something strange happened...
did you have boots on your god?
Did your dominion (the candles) drop to nothing? |
Re: Something strange happened...
It sounds like some weird kind of bug but it might be that he was sucked into the Void for a while due to a magical effect while wearing Boots of the Planes (or whatever they're called). That or something similar. We've seen a lot of questions about that, so apparently it does happen. If I were you, I'd wait and see if he doesn't pop back up. If he's not back in a year, I'd list it in the bug thread, or possibly start a new thread, as the bug thread is getting a little unwieldy-sorry if someone already answered this one, I'm at work and we've very busy.

Re: Something strange happened...
No boots and my dominion was strong across my territories and beyond (started with 5 dom, built 10 more temples, was at 7). It simply vanished without any kind of message.
I don't know if there is some kind of spell that can "banish" other pretender but I guess a message would appear, isn't it? I would be delighted to provide any interested parties with the turn that happened, but it was maybe 20-30 turns ago and I don't have it saved. Anyways, who can tell me what files need to be saved to preserve a a particular turn? Guess I am going to start all over. Playing a game without the pretender for me is a bit akin to playing chess without the King. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Thanks all for the nice help! |
Re: Something strange happened...
So playing dominions without a pretender makes you un-beatable?

Re: Something strange happened...
When playing recently Ermor in the late age, i had a stacked legion of 2246 various undeads, i had a more than 30 commanders leading them.
Just before this turn, there was the mention of the deathmatch arena event. My prophet, that was part of this huge stack, was using some nice items and i wanted to get him on the arena to view the battle and see what kind of killing machine he could be now. And impossible to find this commander in the stack, in the army setup option he was present in there, but not all the commanders were displayed in the main screen for selection, so i couldn't see him. Maybe there was some shortcut i have not learned about yet to scroll between several "pages" of commanders in the main screen, but i could find it again only by splitting the huge stack and send various armies in nearby province. So if you can't find your pretender , by any chances do you have a big stack of armies (and so lot of commanders) in a province that could "hide" your pretender from your view ? |

You can make the images smaller with the "<" key
|
Re: Something strange happened...
No... not at all. In fact I guess it makes me significantly weaker. Only I "pretend" to be the Pretender and without him I have no alter ego... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Something strange happened...
You know about scrolling the commander list up and down too, right?
|
Re: Something strange happened...
Sure! Also he doesn't appear in the province, ANY province. I checked one by one...
Anyway, thx! |
Re: Something strange happened...
On scrolling the commander list - use the + and - keys. Took me a while to realise what was going on there!

Re: Something strange happened...
you can always scour your F1 troops roster for him.

Re: Something strange happened...
I have a similar question; do holy points dissappear over time or something?
My god died, I set 19 level 2 priests to call god and one level one (i.e. 39 points). I wanted to wait to bring him back when I had the ability to cure his disease. Then I set a level 2 to call him back when i was ready. A turn goes by and he didnt come back. So i waited another turn with the same level 2 calling him back. No dice. So i got upset and set 6 levels of priests to call him back. Now I count 49 points used and he still isnt back. Do i have to do all 40 in one turn? Is it harder to call back certain gods? |
Call God
I have also invested more than 40 points in Call God. He didn't come back last turn, and this turn a bunch of Trolls thought it would be extremely amusing to wipe out my PD and siege my home province. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
Can your God come back if you have invested >40 points but your home province is under siege? |
Re: Call God
Yes, and he should attack the besiegers. Alternatively, it could be that he behaves like indie attack events on sieged castles (which is a reported bug). Or there could be some bug. I'm going to shortlist this issue so that it gets investigated.

Re: Call God
Calling God back needs 50 points. I've tested it some months ago. The manual is wrong here.

Re: Call God
Thanks calmon, that's useful info! I made 40 last turn, and then at the end of this turn I had 48. So, that may be the reason that he did not show up. I'll find out this next turn if he will attack the Trolls. It's MP so I won't know for about 12 hours probably.
Edit: Well, my Pretender showed up, but he didn't participate in breaking the siege (which was successfully broken by other units of mine). I also did not get a message that he arrived, he was just there in the garrison. I made a zip of the savegames directory for this turn, but I don't have a backup of any other turns. Please PM me if this zip is needed. |
