Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
Ya it started snowing here about three hours ago, has stopped now and is clear skies and cold.

Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
I don't remember what snow is! Kana, when was the last time it snowed out this way? Two years ago right?

Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
Most days, except of course nowadays it being summer, I can look out the window and see snow. That snow however is on the mountain that overlooks Hobart. It only snows at sea level maybe every 10 years if you're lucky.

Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
its been the warmest winter so far around here tht i've seen in a long time, we've only had a dusting of snow so far.. Usually this time of year we've already been by at least 2-3 heavy snow storms.. all we are getting now is lake effect.... can't complain tho, most days its been in the high 40's and 50's... as for shoveling, after the storm in 1978, I went out and bought a snow blower. 78 was a real back breaker thats for sure.

Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
It's been snowing here too, though it has stopped now. It takes a long time to drive anywhere with the traffic being so slow. Some of my coworkers didn't come in to work today. I can't use the snow as an excuse to skip work because I don't live that far away.
Most years we either get no snow or only a little bit. This winter has been one of the more snowy winters. |

Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
Sigh...it actually makes me miss shoveling 3ft of snow out of my 100 yard driveway back in Michigan...the chirping of the birdies, the numb extremities, snow blindness, the marshmallow clothing, throwing the snow into the wind by mistake, crippling glasses fog upon re-entry...ahh...that was the good life.
Ironically, my 18 month old is obsessed with snowmen now that we live in a place where we're lucky to get a little frosty dandruff once or twice a year. She LOVES snowmen but has never even seen one that wasn't made out of plastic... |
Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
Here in San Diego, I've only seen it snow twice in my lifetime. Both times were just light flurries of tiny flakes, that melted as soon as they hit the ground.
In the mountains east of here, however, we often get snow. Julian is a popular resort town in the mountains. After a good snow, we often drive up to Julian, play in the snow til our toes get cold, then drive into town and drink hot apple cider, then go home where it's warm http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Perhaps that's why real estate here is so hideously expensive. I was recently informed that my 50-year old house, 2 bedrooms and one bath, 1000 sq ft exactly, is now worth over $400K... |
Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
...Sell it and move to the countryside.

Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
I always get a chuckle when I watch the news, and it snows down south (live in North-Central BC, so the news is pretty much exclusively about Vancouver). A wee bit of snow and it's chaos. A little bit chilly outside, and you'd think hell had frozen over from the fuss they throw up http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif By comparison, it's about -30°C outside where I am. It's all about perspective http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Just hope traffic isn't too bad down there in a week or so when I head down to Vancouver for a concert http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif

Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
The Midwest has gotten hardly any snow, all you people in the rockies are hogging it all....you greedy so and sos.
Here in Indianapolis, we've had maybe 2 snows this winter, none of which stuck to the ground for longer than an hour. LOTS of rain though, I mean lots. Now the temprature is finally droping here, so maybe we'll get some. |
Re: OT: Shoveling snow...
Washington, DC area has been warm -- globally warm. The cherry trees were starting to blossum! The last few days were the first cold ones this winter, and it wasn't even very cold. And now it's warm again. If this keeps up, I'm going to start a business aimed at New England retirees. "Forget Florida. Move to DC for the great winter weather!" Of course, maybe they won't bother moving south at all.

The thing we have to remember is that they're lucky if they have 2 snowplows in the whole state. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif They just don't know what to do with it and people especially don't know how to drive in it down there. I can remember being in Fort Jackson SC in 1980 and getting 2 inches. The governer proclaimed a state-of-emergency. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
