_Really_ easy question.
Hello, I apologize if my English is bad as I picked up this game while visiting friends of mine family in Washington State. I was wondering for your game, is there anyway to make battle controlled by myself? It is a small annoyance to have to hope things turn out best for you automatically. :[
Thank you all! |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
No.
You get to place your troops, give them orders and script your mages. Then, just like Napoleon you get to sit back, watch and hope... |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
The only control you can have over battles is the "scripting" of units before the battle.
|
Re: _Really_ easy question.
Aaaaah, okay thank you. I am simply very confused because I am not able to win battles very easily, or with an always same strategy, even against almost-same armies. :\
I don't understand how to 'bless', or how to get/find better units than the units you can make at start of the game. Makes me wish Josh had not spilled Coke on the manual. ;] Thank you all! |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
To bless you need commanders with priest level. You can script them in the army menu with 'Cast a specific spell'. Choose 'Blessing' and some of your sacred troops will be blessed. Priests with priest level 3 and higher are able to cast 'Devine Blessing' which bless all your sacred units on the battlefield.
The starting units are very good in most cases. You normally get better troops trough better spells. Try to research 'Conjuration'. Your mages will be able to cast some mighty summons if you research one of the higher levels. |

You only get better units from higher level spells, special sites or the odd rare indie province. Playing SP, it is very rare for me to lose more than a dozen units in a battle. Most of the time I do not lose any, its just a matter of gaining experience with the game. Eventually even impossible AI's are just mostly harmless. |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
Huh, how did you "pick the game" on a trip ? Sorry to look suspicious but the game is only sold online, and your second post about loss of manual makes the situation even more strange...

Anyone who plays a copied version of Dom3 and does not buy the original, is a lowlife thief in my opinion. Ripping off the big software houses is one thing, they can perhaps stand the loss and future software production is not affected but small indies like Illwinter are very, very vulnerable to software piracy. Every Dom3 sale will make a Dom4 more likely and mean more money can be invested into making a Dom4, so we will have an even better game. |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
Another "casually picked up the game" person with no manual.
At least he was more careful about how he asked a question. Maybe we should make more effort to give answers as a page and paragraph of the manual. |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
Iblis, even though Josh spilled coke on the manual, it is so thick that you did not miss the important part your looking for!
Flip to page 293 in the manual and the debug code to enable full control of battles is listed there, along with the other cheat codes for the game. I hope this helps, goodluck! |

And while I am chinese I relocated with my mother when I was a kid, so my chinese is not the best, makes it quite hard to understand something sometimes. So yes what are these cheatcodes? I can not seem to find them! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
There is a chinese translated version of this game/manual? o.O incredible.

Only a bit confusing sometimes, but not much the developers could do to change that I guess. |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
I wonder how many languages the game is printed in. It is amazing to me such a small company can have the game/manual printed in so many different languages.

And they arent all that easy to find either. Especially since the console got taken out. You can check this list. http://www.dom3minions.com/docs/CommandLine.txt |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
In the Chinese version it's a picture of an river demon instead of an Umbral, and then a picture of an Eater of the Dead instead of a horror (I forget which one, but I don't think it was the Hunter of Heroes, and it definitely was a named horror), and then a picture of Gandalf instead of a picture of a Zyz (undead giant eagle) in the manual-which could have used more pictures overall (those are the only 3, aside from minor icons, as far as I can remember). Also, the fellow who wrote it doesn't reference a Civilization strategy guide as the ultimate strategy guide he wanted to emulate, but didn't know nearly as much about fantasy as the people who wrote the guide he references knew about history, he references Sun Tzu's the Art of War.
See? I really DID lose my manual! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
Losing the Dom3 manual is a hanging offense. It is an act of Treason.
|
Re: _Really_ easy question.
Haha, don't be afraid. :]
I mean that I am taking the disket back home with me. Though if it will make you feel good I can take a Russian Copy online? Do they sell Russian copies? That'd really help with manual and understanding. :] Thank you about the blessings! I kept thinking it was another 'drop-down' select, but, lo and behold, it wasn't! |
Re: _Really_ easy question.
I have a question regarding the manual:
It is "spiral bound" (or something like that), this means you have to flip the pages "overhead" instead of sideways like you do with a regular book? Also, I don't know if any of you have ever read the Krush Kill and Destroy manuals, but those were written with truly fantastic humor. Is there "humor" in this manual, will I chuckle when I flip through the pages? If it will ... Blessed be the souls of Illwinter and their offspring for a thousand generations. *goes back to his mail-watching post, eagerly awaiting his Dom3 package* |

It doesn't "look" as nice as a regular binding, but it's way more convenient. And since the manual does hold a lot of useful information, that's a Good Thing. Quote:

But the spell that makes the mustard taste better does make me grin...
