Facility level?
I've created some new facilities along with a new tech area to contain them, but they start out at max level even if there's just one level researched in thier tech field. I can't seem to find anywhere in the facilities.txt or techareas.txt files that deal with facility level. Am I missing something?

Re: Facility level?
[%Level%] is probably what you're missing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Without some part of the formula that sets that value, it'll always be maxed out.

Re: Facility level?
I have to agree with PD without seeing the file. I just can't think of another source for your problem. You should have something like this in the requirements line:
Get_Empire_Tech_Level ("Your Tech") >= (1 + ([%Level%] - 1)) Your Tech is the tech area it's tied into. If that doesn't help attach your file here and one of us modders will look it over and leave a note explaining what is wrong. |
Re: Facility level?
Aha, I think I found it. What I did was copy the space yard and made my own version of it, but i think my word wrap ended up cutting off part of the formula... Doh!
I suppose I should probably be using Devnull's editor, but I'm too used to working in Notepad from back in the SE4 days. |
Re: Facility level?
I use NotePad also, force of habit from SE4 days I guess. What I do is turn the word wrap off.

Re: Facility level?
The editor is neat, but it's rather buggy and it doesn't look like there's coming any updates for it anytime soon.

Re: Facility level?
There is no reason to use notepad when there are plenty of free text editors out there with nifty features like regular expression matching for find/replace...

Re: Facility level?
Yeah, but I'm a lazy sod. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Facility level?
There may be if you are knowledgeable in that sort of thing. For modders like me who are self taught on NotePad there is nothing else. Why don't you link me to a few and give them your personal rating best to worst. And while you are using those formidable search skills why don't you tell me how many government employed workers there are at a major port of your choice.

Re: Facility level?
Uh-huh. I've tried those editors. It was like trying to learn a whole new programming language!

Re: Facility level?
/me is self-taught on regular expressions. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif That's just one feature amongst many that make such text editors much nicer to work with than notepad.
I am not going to try to order them "best to worst." They are just ordered randomly. Some freeware editors include Crimson Editor, Metapad, PSpad, and Notepad++. Some shareware editors include EditPlus, Textpad, and Editpad Pro. Personally, I'd recommend staying away from things like vim and emacs. While they are free and have win32 versions, they are just ugly applications. Narf: Note that the editors themselves are nothing like trying to learn a new language. Regular expressions are to a degree, though. Many of the apps have dropdowns in the find/replace dialog that helps you build them more easily. |
Re: Facility level?
I'm currently using Crimson Editor...

Everything is set to key bindings and configuration files so you don't have to move between the keyboard and mouse as often. You do need reach for the ESC key a lot but I find that easier. |
