Space Empires Haiku.
Haiku is a form of poetry with strict rules of construction. It does not need to rhyme, but each must be 17 syllables, five in the first line, seven in the second, five in the third. Haiku can be written about any subject.
Beware of warp points. Not all are safe for travel. They can be quite strange. When seeking planets, we have learned a truth sublime. "Minerals are best!" Of your growth we say, it is quite remarkable. It does astonish! Minerals you need? We know a source of many. In asteroids near. Give it a try. It can be fun and it's a good brain teaser. Geo |

Gee, why do those look familiar... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
I'll try to come up with some later. Phoenix-D |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Maybe I could come up with a new race. Call them the Haikuroni. Rewrite the whole speech.txt in haiku. That would be a challenge. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Then if I could come up with an oragami shipset...
Anyway, I thought of a new one driving home... Play PBEM. It is much easier now, thanks to Admiral hehehe. http://seiv.pbw.cc |

Had to get in on this one...
From chill space above floods brimming plasma downward. A colony dies. They're not so loyal, your brave space-faring pilots. Crew insurrection. Your coloniser for my worthless two escorts. Unequal exchange? Now scrap metal are your fierce shield generators. Phased polaron Beam. TCP/IP is awaited by many but I play by mail. Suicide Junkie with eye patch and parrot made Pirates and Nomads. With ewok-like tricks, a meek primitive species defends 'gainst your troops. A thousand warships miss your cloaked star destroyer. You sneaky bastard. I can't understand your political logic my murderous friend. ------------------ "Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?" "Uh, I think so, Brain, but balancing a family and a career ... oooh, it's all too much for me. " |

An icy wind sweeps forth.
Grains of sand shift so quickly -- Billions are lost. The heat of battle: For victors, eternal spring; The rest melt away. Young wyrms all look small, But one will eat the heavens. Spring: the eggs hatch now. ------------------ -- The thing that goes bump in the night |

Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Apologies for the long post, but i felt like telling a story...
The C D ROM loads, Game starts, the excitement mounts, The empire is born The galaxy calls, Near and far the stars glitter, The people answer Great vessels are built, Immense energies are tamed, The void calls us on New planets are found, The empire expands anew, Great cities are built New cultures we meet, All strange, weird or distinguished, Some friends, some not so Violent threats emerge, Soon new techs are developed, Strength for strength we fight Many battles lost, Courageously we struggle, The people suffer Planets burn for days, Our cities lost to vengeance, We vow to fight on Our fleets pushed back now, The homeworld laid bare to all, To soon they will come To the Last we stay, Making them fight for each step, Our numbers soon drop In orbit they sit, Belching gobs of sinful fire, Erasing the past Only memories, Our people long forgotten, Bones lying in the sun |

My Homeworld is lost

Re: Space Empires Haiku.
(LOL! I know who you are talking too. )
Following too close Their ships did draw the first blood Cries for peace unheard Fire and death did rain A peaceful colony dead And still we forgive Poorly drawn map lines unreasonable demands done deliberate? We wish to have peace We have shown this many times but still the Hive roars Concessions are made Honest tries to keep the peace But they are stubborn Though peace is our goal We will not lay down for them "Bring it on, Foul Puke!" http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/tongue.gif |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Combination Haiku and rhyming:
We demand an AI That beats us every time; Are we truly sane? I have to ask why? Is it not masochism? Do we live for pain? Should MM supply Our self-destructive desire For commercial gain? A less noble guy Profit his only motive His course would be plain The posters they cry For endless complications No one can attain Modders galore try To overcome hard code "flaws" Ignoring poor Jane SEIV-widow-nigh With conversational needs Your mind she must drain OK, this has gotten REALLY bad. I'm outa here! |

our consessions found
an avenue bringing peace we spared their homeland colony shall go they will withdraw from our space contact will now cease new system scouted they have designs on our space renig on peace treaty their colony stays a military compound that spies on our space give up more planets they demand of our people never satisfied never wanted peace just breathing room to build up their weakened navy our Last hope for peace one desperate concession to protect our race our mutual gain does not interest aliens war their only goal accept our treaty provoke conflict no longer listen to reason nothing that you have is what we have desired merely privacy do not try patience lest fire rain down from your sky more ships will return |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Wistfully he yearned
For the old days, when his tribe Was alone in space. He sent spaceships out To explore, expand, exploit, So the tribe would thrive. His worldview was dashed Upon seeing the strange ship-- Other tribes exist? These people looked strange, Breathed methane, not oxygen, And smelled funny, too. They spoke words of peace, of trade and diplomacy, cooperation. He believed their words, Forged an alliance with them, Perhaps not so bad? Till the day their fleet Entered his homeworld's system Hell-bent on conquest. How could he have been So gullible, and not have Built up defenses? In desperation A fleet was built, but too green, Too few, and too late. Now he looks down on The charred, smoking ruins of His once-proud planet. One recurring thought Fills his mind: "Somehow, sometime, Vengeance shall be mine!" Quikngruvn |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
The fleet assembled
Waiting at the warp points edge The foe awaits them The enemy's there Just out of sight, out of range In numbers unknown The enemy probes They send ships in ones and twos Testing our resolve Now the order comes Engines fire, ships spring to life The portal opens The fleet has gone now Beyond the swirling blue door What does their fate hold The Emporer waits He knows the battles over Victory or not |

Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Brilliant ships flare forth
The end is come now, today Wave after wave, no pity Last System stand strong A gift, death, for us, and you Flare bright star, burn all Wave after wave, no pity Last stand, we fall, by own hand Wave after wave, burn bright Our end you bring now Last breath flaring forth, die now Your end we begin Death shall we embrace Today your fleets follow us Tomorrow Others finish you Yah. You know who this is for. Feel the burn of suicidal star destroyers! (I don't think he reads this forum, but its the thought that counts) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Though we fall now, Doom for you
Temporal we see forward Star flare fills the sky Locked us away Our only warp point closed Star instability Thirty turns only Perish now in the burning You will get yours soon To the same person. His strategy got him killed this time. Cheers to a happy ending. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
On a withered branch,
One world clings without hope, No plans for the Spring. Jackals await in orbit Who will cry for the blossoms? [I hope you don't mind a tanka in among the haiku.] -Tsukku- |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Leaping for the point of warp
the magic swirls and whorls a new space! The joyful mines awake. |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
The soaring majesty of fat ships rise
The pitiful involuntary colonist cries. The glory of stellar empire beams In space no one can hear your screams |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
The Dreadnoughts rumbling forth
To pierce the skies with Burning glory Pretty colors exploding. |
Re: Space Empires Haiku.
Joy! Again I see,
small steps toward perfection: Patch history List True economics. Growth is slow and yet precious, In Proportions Mod Loud Godzilla roar Heralds a monster attack, In Devnullmod Gold Insults are traded, The currency of friendship, In the Phong's Head Pub. A troop ship descends, Turmoil upon the surface, and a new king reigns. Troop- won colonies Diminish my enemy and lend strenth to me. Frustrating to find, Your intel surpasses mine. My secrets reveal'd. Vikings declare War: Your lands, your ships, your women, shall belong to us. [ 03 May 2002: Message edited by: dogscoff ]</p> |
