Insanity Questions
1. Does Enslave Mind work on the insane?
2. Is insanity reversible - by time in friendly dominion, or by Gift of Health? |
Re: Insanity Questions
Yes (pretty sure, anyway) and no, in that order.

Re: Insanity Questions
Does insanity have any effect on non-commander units?
|
Re: Insanity Questions
If there is one, it's subtle. Assuming you don't GoR it, anyway. Haven't noticed freakish combat behavior for instance even with swarms of frequently insane dreamers.
Assuming you mean direct effects -- the units assigned to an insane commander can't be reassigned unless the commander is lucid that turn, if memory serves. |

And yes, as Taqwus said, insanity has no noticable effect on the non-commander units. |
Re: Insanity Questions
Is it a definite that nothing can remove insanity? Even wish?

Re: Insanity Questions
Something kind of interesting, if you've never been on the receiving end of crazy before - insane Rl'yeh commanders do random, usually non-helpful things, like calling their god back from the dead when the god is not in fact dead, preaching when they have no holy stat, researching with no magic stat, etc. But they do also declare themselves prophets, regardless of how many prophets you already have. This is highly useful. And sometimes the holy guys will preach and the mages will research - not necessarily what you want from them, but not so bad.
On the other hand, if you're not Rl'yeh and you go crazy, I've never seen a commander do anything useful during a crazy turn. They say interesting things like "that's no star" and "Hear my dreams of Rl'yeh", which I assume are just totally wasted turns. So, even if crazy is bothering you as it spreads through your ranks of freespawn commanders, slave mages, and summoned Naiads, it's much, much worse for others. |
Re: Insanity Questions
You should keep an eye out for recently awake insane commanders. They will continue their insane actions if you don't reassign them (and unless they were insanely defending, which I haven't seen yet, they won't come up on the 'N' cue).

Re: Insanity Questions
A funny moment related to insanity, when playing as LA Rlyeh took place when some enemy armies were besieging one of my land castle.
I broke the siege with my castle troops supported by nearby provinces incoming armies (like my powerfull pretender and some good summons coming from a void gates). As it happened already several time in my insanes provinces, on the next turn in the troop assignement screen, several of the enemy soldiers (all insanes) were waiting to be assigned to one of my commanders, like if i bought them the turn before. But what was a real surprise was the presence of a strange soldier (not commander) mounted on a horse that i never noticed existing as a soldier when being the other nation in a previous game. And when right clicking to see the stats of it, i noticed it had the prophet icon : it was in fact the enemy pretender's prophet that decided to join me not as a commander but as a simple soldier , out of his own insanity http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif edit : found the old screenshots i made of this : http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/5371/gfhfher0.jpg |
Re: Insanity Questions
so whos bless did he have, your bless or your enemies bless?
|
Re: Insanity Questions
I can't say exactly as i have not looked at the stats in that time, but judging from the Magic Resistance 16 and as it was on a province with a strong dominion from my pretender, i think it used mine.

Re: Insanity Questions
Hrrrrrrrrrm. Are you sure that you didn't just have somebody casting enslavement spells?
|
Re: Insanity Questions
It is possible but it was not on purpose , i just had 2 void spectres and a visitor slightly empowered in astral casting Dreams of Rlyeh nearly each turns near the end game on provinces i selected randomly.
Maybe one of them got this enemy prophet, i don't know for sure as i was not checking the battles after turns. |
Re: Insanity Questions
Please forgive the newbie question, but where does insanity come from? Is it a spell or just from being in enemy domain? If the latter, is it an issue with every race? I've only observed it when I butt heads with R'lyeh. Then again, I've only played a few games.

Re: Insanity Questions
LA R'leyh's dominion spreads insanity.
IF there are other ways to get it, they're very rare. |
Re: Insanity Questions
A couple of unique items makes one go insane, too.
|
Re: Insanity Questions
Thanks very much. Me thinks I won't play against R'lyeh again anytime soon.

Re: Insanity Questions
Yow, I just noticed this too as half my elite minotaurs started whaling on each other.
Any advice to deal with such a problem? Is there any cure to insanity? Are holy units more resistant to it? Thanks |
Re: Insanity Questions
Preach and spread dominion before invading. Temples are really, really important
