This thread is for keeping track of winning nations and players of medium or large regular (non-blitz) forum games. Post the era, number of players, mods used, winning player and nation, and a link to the forum thread and your game will be added. Only games with at least six players will be included in the winning nations section, but feel free to include smaller games for the Hall of Honor. Ties are counted as a half point on the victorious nation chart. If you think you have made it to the Hall of Fame please let me know when you post the win.

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Well, I claim Caelum as one of the strongest nations. Been that way since Dom1. Air magic is simply very powerful, and no one can use it as well as Caelum.

Two MP games I was in have been finished.

1. Dawnstrike: won by EA Caelum (played by Jurri, cumulative VPs were used.

2. ImpendingIndustry/LA random nations or some such: won by LA Agartha (played by Meglobob). Research victory. It was kind of funny as several people, including Meglobob and myself, had forgotten that the game had research as victory condition. He actually set himself to AI 1 turn before winning since he was losing a war.

LA Agartha is strong too, powerful death magic, kind of obvious.

To clarify, ALL I had to do was press the end turn button to win, so it was a victory by me, the AI never really got to do a turn. It was funny that so many of us had forgot it was a research victory, although in my case I was in 10 MP's at the time, so perhaps understandable.

Also Teraswaerto forgets to mention that I was fighting 4 other players on 3 seperate fronts, LA Ermor, Mictian, C'tis and Ulm. I only went AI because the host/other players would not change the timer from 24hr (we were on turn 40+) to give me a chance to script my many multiple armies correctly.

LA agartha is a strong nation given time, but can easily be knocked out early in MP and IS NOT TOO POWERFUL. LA Agartha is a good, well balanced nation.

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Well, that's too true. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I didn't mean to imply that setting to AI made it not your victory.

Turn times aside, you were losing the war, quite understandably against multiple opponents. I did have the impression you'd have set to AI soon even with a longer turn timer, if you hadn't won the game that is http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Meglobob February 10th, 2007 06:33 PM

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Dawnstrike - Finished with Jurri/EA Caelum the winner. I would not read too much into this as Jurri is a top player, any nation controlled by him is extremly dangerous. So its hard to say if EA Caelum is overpowered. Also it was culmative VP's which I and most other players in the game did not grasp the meaning of until it was too late. If it had been to the death, Jurri/EA Caelum may have been defeated by a multiplayer alliance.

Teraswaerto February 10th, 2007 06:35 PM

Re: Victorious Nation Data

To further clarify, I do not claim that EA Caelum or LA Agartha are overpowered, simply that they are strong.

I would have been defeated against so many players, I did have a plan however, I had Undead Mastery, with 3 death mages able to cast it. So I was going to use it to steal LA Ermors 1,000's of undead and C'tis's 100's of undead then use them against my foes. Also I would have had Flames from the sky in another 2 turns with no shortage of fire gems or fire mages to cast it.

But I probably would have still lost, if I had not won of course... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Middle Era, Cradle of Dominion - Game ended turn 50'ish, with no conclusive winner. 3 possible winners were Ulm/Solo, Machaka/Twan and me/Man. I think both myself and Twan concluded MA Ulm/Solo would have probably won. He had 5 globals up and his army was virtually all summoned/magical troops, with a HUGE gem income.

This is a very interesting thread. Keep updating it and it might even be worth stickying it so that people have it to refer to. I do kindof wish there was some game-info with each game post such as how many provinces the map had.

Maybe I will mention the winner of the mega-test game when it ends.

Re: Victorious Nation Data

You know, it would be alot better if you link the scores that you have (or atleast the replies here) to the actual game threads. And of course this is only some statistic, since winning a game is very much determined by skill (and luck and diplomacy) and not by what nation you're playing.

Tyrant March 1st, 2007 11:47 PM

Re: Victorious Nation Data

That would be very messy to put at the top, especially as the number grows, but the posters could include that when they report.

It's true that this is not the last word on balance or anything, but i still think it's interesting info.

Re: Victorious Nation Data

I am impressed with how balanced the game is. A lot of different nations have won the game, and so far no one nation has come out to be clearly THE powerhouse.

BTW...just got the full blown game today. Installed easily. Patched easily. Will be looking to get into MP noob game as soon as one of my opponents gets his full blown.

(almost sounds dirty, doesn't it?)

It might be nice to have a database with all this info (age, victory conditions, maps, mods). Just to see what's popular and what hasn't been done before (and publically posted, of course).

I still think it's hilarious that neither Helheim nor Niefelheim has won a game yet, and everyone's seem to forgotten how much of a powerhouse Caelum was in Dom2.

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Guess it has a lot to do with people dogpiling them (with good reason) easier when they get stronger than when some other nations get to the same level of being stronger than the rest. But Caelum really makes me wonder. It wasn't *that* special in Dominions 1 from what I remember. What happened to it in Dominions 2, exactly?

Morkilus May 2nd, 2007 03:36 PM

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Having not played Dominions 1 I couldn't tell you. I've been mashed by Caelum MANY times in both Dom2 and Dom3, however. Fast air queens and thunder-blasting mage armies are pretty hard to deal with. Now they have mammoths as well.

Sensori May 2nd, 2007 04:04 PM

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Well, they had mammoths in Dominions 1, too. Thing is, Pythium, Vanheim and the sorts could stop Caelum's air force in its tracks due to their usage of air as well innately. People used rainbow mages because blesses weren't anything special (because there was one generic bless, and it was the same always) too, so everyone could theoretically cast practically everything with some effort. And back then, since everyone could have their fill of Elemental Queens and Kings (they were infinite), it didn't matter who got "first dibs" on them. I guess countering certain types of attacks, as a result, was easier back in Dominions 1. Fact that rainbow mages were made less viable thanks to the blessing system, too, had a rather major effect - everyone can't counter everything anymore, since they can't summon everything.

Keep an eye out, I have a feeling we are going to see two Helheim entries pretty soon.

I'm going to have to go through the forums and check those two, they have very similar names to some that are already recorded. The main post needs some improvement anyway.

Probably 3 in the next couple of months.

Btw I am pretty sure Dr Praetorious has won a MP as Niefelheim.

There should be 2 Lanka and 2 Vanheim victories in the EA totals.

The Hall of Honor is missing "thejeff - Newb EA Aran - 8 players - Vanheim"

Re: Victorious Nation Data

Mana Burn and Newb EA Aran listed, one Lanka not counted 'cause i arbitrarily decided 6 was the minimum.
