ö

so I was wondering if it is possible to enter characters like ö into names somehow...

I mean the computer does it randomly with some names... but I can't find a way to do so manually.

also I guess its woth mentioning that Sauromatia hero Skögu spawns as Sk for some reason, despite his text reading "Skögu."

Re: ö

It's really easy. Press the key in your keyboard with ö å or ä on it and presto!

What? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: ö

If your keyboard does not support those characters (like a US-english kb, for example), you can try using the alt-codes for the character you are looking for. For example, the alt-code for ö is 0246. Alt codes can be found easily via the Character Map program which should be at Start->Accessories->System Tools->Character Map on any given windows machine.

Now - as to whether dom3 will actually accept those codes - I dont know. If windows handles the translating at the OS level then it should be fine as dom3 wouldnt even know this was happening.

Re: ö

no dom 3 doesn't accept alt codes. 's why i asked if there was some other way built in.

I need to get me a keyboard with those characters http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: ö

One way that I have found to do it is to copy the character from an existing source (like in this topic) and paste it into your text editor. This works in notepad & vim on my WinXP system. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: ö

there is no paste function in dom 3 :/

or if there is, someone let me know what it is. cause its not contol+V

Re: ö

My misunderstanding. I thought you were trying to use it in maps/mods, not naming in game.

Check this site how to change your keyboard layout: http://www.forlang.wsu.edu/help/keyboards1.asp

You mean like éâäàåçêëèïîìÄÅÉæÆôöòûùÿÖÜ¢£¥PƒáíóúñѪº¿_¬½¼¡«?

Or maybe ¤¶§?

Alt + right number pad, 1-255 + release ALT

Re: ö

oh man, I already know alt + numbers.... but dom3 does not recognize the alt key being held, so all you get is numbers.

I will accept that is a no.... but the keyboard layout changing looks promising. Thanks kalkkis.

edit: well that works like a charm in normal programs, but again dom 3 doesn't recognize that I am holding down the alt key.

dang.

Re: ö

What about Shift+¨ and then o

Re: ö

Why don't you change the keyboard layout in windows itself?

For similar reasons, I have both my native German layout and the English layout installed. No need for external programs. Switching on the fly is also already supported by windows itself.

Re: ö

shift+" o doesn't work either.. nöt like it does here...

i mean it does in normal programs but not dom3. Does the german language set work with a one keypress in dom3?

I'll tool around some, see if i can get my keyboard to do it with german.

Re: ö

feh, i don't think theres any way for me to do this without getting a new keyboard.

even with the german layout i need to press alt+p to get the ö

which doesn't work in dom3.

Let me apologize for being testy, I failed to mention that I am incredibly computer literate, and already know how to get the characters with alt+#s, copy and paste from charmap, and (now) using international keyboard...

but none of it works in Dom3. not even the shift"+o.

if anyone knows a way to remap the keyboard in winXP so that i can enter the character with one keystroke, then let me know - thats the only way I can imagine it working, and then, maybe it still won't.

update: I tried using AutoHotKey to map f12 to send ö, but in Dom3 it sends the alt number instead of the character.

The "ö" on the German layout should equal the ";" on the physical English keykoard. And I can confirm that it works, other layouts with special characters, like Swedish, also work.

Re: ö

outside of dom3 german gives me the "ö" - in dom3 it gives me ";"

this is a lost cause you guys.

You, sir, have a very strange computer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Just tested: My Dom3 accepts any change in keyboard layout properly. Are you SURE that you have activated German layout? Try Dom3 in windowed mode, this way, you can look at the tray-icon that indicates the active layout. Remember, the layout MAY be different from one window to the next! (It only switches for the currently active window IIRC.)

Re: ö

There is an item in the bug report where some of the units in Dom3 that had characters like those in the name arent showing up correctly. I think there was a library correction which caused the european spellings which the devs like to not carry through. I dont know if that means it will stay this way for compatability reasons, or if it will be repaired back to the way it was.

Re: ö

Now you mentioned that.
when i have to output the name of the rgb file to a new map it doesn´t get the _ character right and I have to press every key to find it
Lastly it was on shift+5 or shift+6 wich i don´t know from what layout is because it´s not english and not spanish.
