Stalling might lose forged items?

Hello,

another question here, during a MP game I gave orders to forge 3 items, but missed the deadline for the next turn.

When I take a look at my lab on the turn after the stalled one I see neither of the 3 items.

I doubt that I changed the orders for 3 smiths by accident and none of the items was unique.

Is this a (known) bug or do you have any other ideas what might have happened ?

Here's a guess, stalling a turn means you do nothing, zip?

Having said that I am fairly sure when I have stalled patrol, preach orders and summon allies have been carried out as normal.

I don't think any new orders get to the server unless you submit them. Only orders which carry over from the last time you submitted orders.

There's no multi-turn forging orders (there should be, though!) Thus there's no way your orders made it to the server if your turn didn't.

If the host computer thinks you "stalled" then it means it didnt get your moves turned in. Whether thats because you actually didnt, or a bad file transmission, or whatever. So even though you thought you told it to make an item, the host apparently didnt get it (therefore the stall)

Hi,

I have not been clear in my previous post, actually it went like this:

Turn X: 3 Forge orders - turn got executed
Turn X+1: Stalled
Turn X+2: Can't find my forged items from turn X

There may be a random event where magic items get stolen from the lab, not 100% sure though.

Hmm, yup, that might be possible, actually I am not 100% sure if neither of the items was there or just the one I have been really looking for (edit: was not there)...

So you actually saw the time at one point?
Maybe assigned it to someone?
That would confuse me. It would be as if the host had restored from a backup.

Nope, I was unclear again (see my edit above, oh the joys of not being a native English speaker http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ).

Re: Stalling might lose forged items?

If they were artifacts, someone else could have issued forge orders for them that same turn, and you wouldn't have seen the message telling you that the forging had failed because you didn't see the next turn. If they weren't artifacts, the only reason I can think of that they wouldn't have been in your lab is if your lab were full. I don't remember ever seeing an event in which a magic item is stolen from the lab.

If turn X+1 stalled then you didnt get that next turn that would have showed the items had been made. That tells me that maybe the host didnt get your file for turn X at all, or maybe it was a bad file on that turn.

Re: Stalling might lose forged items?

If you are sure that none of the 3 items appeared on turn X+2, this suggests there is a bug. If one or two did show up, then a bug is less likely. Too bad you never got a chance to look at Turn X+1, before it was hosted. Seeing X+1 might have also confirmed that X itself was not stalled, too.

If there is a bug, I might have experienced it myself one time in a game where none of my moves were stalled.

Turn X: I forge an item
Turn X+1: It does not show up, so I forge it again, believing I goofed up my orders on Turn X.
Turn X+2: Two copies of the item appear in my lab!

The lab was nearly empty, so I doubt I would have missed seeing the item on Turn X+1, but who can say for sure!

If no bug exists, then the cause might be:

1) Full lab
2) Equipment change made to a forger after the forge order was given. This can cancel the forge order without you realizing what happened, especially when gems are in short supply and/or the magic item is a booster or a forging hammer.
3) Lack of gems and you did not notice there were not enough to forge the item you wanted.
4) Desired item is so dark it blends in with the dark backgrounds used in the lab display, and you just did not notice that it was there.
5) You somehow cancelled a forge order without realizing what happened. However, this happens more often with move orders, especially just before a moving elsewhere to deal with another province.
6) Exiting the game and then coming back later to continue working on your turn may produce unexpected changes to unit orders, but this would be another kind of bug.

Re: Stalling might lose forged items?

I did a quick test in a tiny test mp game with one stale turn and all seems to work correct. 10 items created in turn X was in my lab in turn X+2 (with stale in turn X+1).

Re: Stalling might lose forged items?

Hmm, thank you for the input, so the most likely explanation seems to be that somebody else forged the unique item on the same turn as I have tried and got lucky that the order was executed before mine or I canceled the order without realising it.

The lab still had enough room.
