Buggy interface

Whenever I right click, it exits me out of the game. how the heck am I suppossed to click on a new province?

Re: Buggy interface

Which version are you using? Have you recently upgraded to 3.06, for example?

FAJ March 7th, 2007 02:20 PM

Re: Buggy interface

upgraded a while ago. just started happening today. no changes otherwise.

Sombre March 7th, 2007 02:28 PM

Re: Buggy interface

It suddenly started happening?

Is this only in one game or in every game? It sounds like the sort of thing that would require a full reinstall. Maybe the game data has become corrupted somehow.

It sounds like something else has changed what right-click on your mouse sends. Does it have any affect on other programs? If you open a program like notepad and right-click in the typing space does it open a menu?

Just happens in this one game. and only when i right click on a province. I can still click on commanders.

I am managing by using nation overview, but it takes forever.

Re: Buggy interface

Probably something has gone corrupt with that particular game. I've had that happen when the map had specified non-existent monsters in the province (monster ID greater than 1772) or non-existent sites (sites above 565) or there were too many #knownfeature commands in the mapfile. Right clicking in the province where the offending items were in view would get an immediate crash to desktop. This could be something similar but not quite the same.

Re: Buggy interface

Also, I have blood slaves in my garrison, not on my blood hunter. Can i use them if they arn't equipped, they are just troops?

Sombre March 8th, 2007 12:18 AM

Re: Buggy interface

I would guess no. How did you end up with blood slaves in the garrison?

Re: Buggy interface

This just started happening to me in an MP game. The other 2 MP games work fine. Right click works for everything but provence selection. It doesn't crash to desktop, only to the main menu, like pressing the exit key.

I copied the dominions directory and removed mods then tried with the "clean" directory but no luck.

Any ideas?

Re: Buggy interface

You might bring up your mouse software and see if something has set the mouse right-click to esc or something like that.

JayThomas March 9th, 2007 01:38 PM

Re: Buggy interface

I don't think it's the mouse since it works properly in two other MP games.

Re: Buggy interface

FAJ, have you found a fix?

Re: Buggy interface

This has happened to me as well. It started in turn 51 of a MP game (3.06), and is as described above - when I try to take my turn, using the right mouse button doesn't select a province, it triggers the end turn box (what would happen if you hit 'e'). Taking my turn in SP games, or in the 3 other MP games I'm playing, the mouse behaves normally. I can select a province normally by hitting "#" and putting in the province number, and once I've selected a province, I can use the RMB normally to select a commander, for example. I cannot use the RMB to select a province or move troops.

What I've tried - I'm running XP with a Logitech G5 mouse, and I've gone into the Logitech software to "reset defaults" in case there was some odd preference set - no help. I've tried deleting all local files for the MP game and redownloading the turn - no help. I tried going away on vacation for a few days - no help. I've checked the mouse settings under the control panel - nothing unusual, and again no help.

So, FAJ and Jay, it isn't just you. I think this may be a genuine bug.

JonathanCrane,

Not sure what happened but the problem just went away. I was playing the game where it accured and realized it was working again.

No idea...

Re: Buggy interface

Well, interesting.

I tried using a different computer (also XP) with a fresh install of 3.06 and the bug is preserved!

Hey i got a grafic glitch problem sometimes when i host or use alt+tab, i have Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 with 256 mb and 17 '' WXGA+200 nit Acer CrystalBrite LCD and Windows XP.

Can developers fix this problem in next patch?

Re: Buggy interface

A bug report that vague is useless. We need to know more.

What kind of a glitch?
What happens?
How does it manifest?
Does it happen every time? Or only occasionally?
If occasionally, is there any kind of predictable pattern?
What sort of drivers do you have? Are they from the graphics card manufacturer and are they up to date?

Answering those questions, or most of them, will help narrow the issue down, if it is an issue at all. It could simply be something on your system, instead of a problem with the game. Even something as simple as not having an updated BIOS on the motherboard can create all sorts of problems, especially if parts of your system like the graphics card are much newer than the rest of it.

Am I right to assume you're replying to merlin82 above?

Do you need any additional information regarding the RMB bug that I reported above? I've emailed a description and a copy of the .trn and .2h files to info@illwinter, along with a description.

Thanks!

Re: Buggy interface

Yes, your assumption is correct. The main issue of the thread is explained in fairly good detail. If you can post the report you sent to IW in this thread and the bug discussion thread, it might also help me formulate a coherent shortlist entry for it, since this hasn't been shortlisted yet.

The developers have been kind enough to review the files, and have identified this as a bug - it will be fixed in the upcoming patch. There are more details in the main Bugs thread. Thanks, Illwinter!
