OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
In North America, daylight saving time is going to start tomorrow morning with 2:00 am becoming 3:00 am. Question: how do you get Windows to change the time at this new date, and stop it from automatically changing the time again at the old date in April? Is there some setting we can adjust so that we don't have to manually change the clock each time?

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
Good question.

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
Microsoft probably has an update for this by now.

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
There are also some free updates for pre-XP versions of Windows. Googling will probably find them. The easiest solution is to just change your settings to NOT automatically change the time for daylight savings. Then your computer is just one more clock to update manually.

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
In my opinion, it's bloody stupid having DST early this year. Supposedly it'll save energy...but is there really any reason to believe this, or is it just another thing to appease the public who freaks out about energy consumption/"global warming"??
|
Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
It's not necessarily about energy. The last time they extended it a few weeks it was about industry (whoever sells grills, charcoal, etc.) wanting people to start the barbecue season early. To do that they needed more daylight after work, so Congress was lobbied to create more daylight after work.

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
I've seen claims that DST doesn't actually give a net savings of energy, either, but I don't have a link handy.

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
It especially makes no sense in Canada; it's dark in the winter no matter what you do with the clocks! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
Well my PC didn't update to the new time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif My lap top did, but it is running XP Pro, the PC is running XP Home. (SP2)

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
My PC updated just fine. Didn't even bug me about it. I'm so proud of my little box for doing what it's supposed to all by it's self. *sniff* They grow up so fast!

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
My PC keeps wanting to apply some Msql something patch. It applies it, then MS update downloads it again and wants to install it again. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Finally I just got PO'ed and turned it off.

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
The price per Barrel of oil comes down nearly $10.00 9 months ago, the price of gas takes a month to reflect that change, it lowers $0.10. Over six months it comes down $0.25 but in one day, fallowing a report that gas consumption is up, the price of gas goes from $2.65 a Gal to $3.20 a gallon. WTF!!!!!!! One DAY! And the Demo's won on the promise that they would stop this kind of price gouging. Yet they do nothing. Business as usual. We get lied to and and the politicians get rich off of the under the table deals they have going with the greedy oil companies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
I just love how the public has been convince that a car that gets 25 MPG is "awesome" when cars have been able to get that for over 40 years.

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
Just be carefully installing that Time Zone patch especially if you use Appointments in Outlook, because in past experience it will screw them up.
Also check carefully to see if you have to uninstall the patch afterwards, because for 1 Australian Daylight Saving Time Change Micro5oft made the change permanently instead of just for the 1 year. |

The last time I used a candle was a few years ago, on top of a birthday cake for a friend. Yup, it's quite rare that I see candles lately. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

The consumer's only recourse is to find ways to use less gasoline. Everyone around here seems to think the 47mpg I average on my civic is great, but I can't help but think that we can do better. Wikipedia says US mpg averages 20, while European averages 40 and Japanese 45. And then we still have all the yuppies that believe they are entitled to drive behemoth 7-seater "light truck" SUVs down the freeway at 85mph, alone, with a ton of cargo in the back because they couldn't be bothered to unload it for the past month, guzzling a gallon every 8 miles if they're lucky, during their 60 mile commute to and from work every day (that's $45/day). If you want to blame someone, blame them. If those people didn't consume so much gasoline, and weren't so willing to pay these prices for it, then YOU wouldn't have to paying those prices either. Me, I'm just glad I only spend $40 a month for gas. Well, now that prices are up around $3.10 here, probably closer to $45-50... And the Democrats might have said that the price of gasoline shouldn't be so high, but that's not the reason they won. But the thread is already off-topic enough. I'm not going to change my clocks that didn't automatically change. I'll just continually believe that I'm an hour early for everything. |

Micro5oft have just admitted that not all PCs updated the time zone as expected. See article for fix. http://www.itnews.com.au/newsstory.a...edate=20070313 |

Re: OT: Daylight Saving Time and Computer Clock
Microsoft had a patch sometime last year for it. They were pretty quick to release the update.
