Also this might be of some interest although it hasn't been confirmed.

Main article: Babylon 5: The Lost Tales

A new project set in Babylon 5 universe was announced by Straczynski at San Diego Comic Con 2006.[23] Babylon 5: The Lost Tales will be a set of mini-stories featuring established characters from the series. The project is intended to be a straight-to-video DVD release; however, there is possible interest from one of the major US TV networks, as well. The production of the first anthology of two stories, named collectively Voices in the Dark, commenced in November 2006 with Straczynski writing, producing, and directing.

Sweetness!

Which reminds me, I saw Bruce Boxleitner on an episode of Cold Case. He only had a bit part in it & I spent the whole episode waiting for him to tell someone to get the hell out of his galaxy, but it was good to see him again.
And that reminds me of the fact that I recently saw Alan Tudyk playing a pedophile on CSI, and I was all like? wtf? He likes the brown sugar!

Man I really feel bad now. I did not know that Andreas Katsulas had died last February. I don't recall if any one here had mentioned this.

After a long illness, Andreas died on
Monday, February 13th, 2006.

In early 2005, Katsulas, who, in the words of Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, "loved smoking with a passion that cannot be described," was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer; he died a year later, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 59. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Thats two down from the B5 family. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

That... But... G'Kar died? It can't be! Why was I not informed. That sucks.

Um... Who else from B5 has died?

The dude who played Zatherus was also killed in 2004 in a motorcycle accident. WTH!!!

And the Richard Biggs died form a brain hemorrhage or something in 04 as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

Its hard to believe that most of the actors who played in B5 are now in their upper 50's. Mira (sp) is the only one with a regular gig and thats on LOST. And did you know Claudia Christenson posed in the October 1999 issue of Playboy Mag!!! Again I say WTH!!

Mr. Morden did a bit on 24 as did the Jerry Doyles ex-wife (Blond telepath Tala Winters.)

Jerry Doyle (Mr. Garaboldy) has his own radio show. LINK Its a political show.

I felt really sad when I heard that news. I really liked him and Dr. Franklin was one of my favorite characters. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

Mine too. He died so suddenly that it caught a lot of people off guard. He had two sons and a wife as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif God you just get heart sick when you read about such good actors dying off like this. Three of them. Hell even TOS still has 5 of its seven main actors still alive. (Note to self, update dead pool.)

Franklin? But he was like, young! Man, this is seriously depressing. I'm going to go live in denial and watch some classic B5.

Kamog March 13th, 2007 04:47 AM

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

The reason I like Dr. Franklin is because of his strong sense of right and wrong, and he always does what he believes is right, regardless of what others think, and even if he has to disobey orders. He stands up for his beliefs, never compromises his principles, and always remembers his duty as a doctor to heal and save lives. That's the kind of person I really respect and admire.

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

Last I heard of it Strazinsky (I don't know what it really is, don't care) said he wasn't making another B5 film as long as the Doctor and G'Kar insisted on being dead, which just ruins it for everyone.

But, B5. No, I can't be bothered. I realised after it finished all I cared about was the space battles. The set is clearly wood and cardboard.

I almost forget. I always supported the Shadows. There I said it.

I knew G'kar's human counterpart had left us whenever it happened. I didn't know about the others, though. Still, it would be nice to see something with the words B5 in it somewhere. Can't wait to see it. Now, if I can only afford to get the series on dvd.

I love B5, but I think it came to a good conclusion. Excalibur annoyed me to no end. I'd like to see Strayskisi(sp?) do something else.

We refer to him as JMS. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif And if you have ever heard him speak, you would be surprised by what he has to say. His belief system is very unique and open to controversy. He is, IMHO, a very intelligent, inspired, talented and gifted man. Some people, namely Hollywood types, dislike him. (Rumor has it that even George Lucas has it out for him. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

Rumor had it that Ted Turner tanked the show when it was on his network because JMS didn't subscribe to the same political POV that Ted is famous for. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Kinda petty if you ask me but that is the way people have reported Ted to be.

It is well known that if George Lucas dislikes you, you aren't going to find funding for your projects. And that has seemed to have been the problem with all of JMS's projects since the mid 90's.

Then again, I cannot think of a single reason for George Lucas to hate JMS, so I have my doubts about this rumor.

Because JMS made a sci-fi show that was better than Star Wars? If you believe the rumours, that's one of the reasons Firefly got tanked too.

Atrocities March 14th, 2007 08:55 PM

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

The firefly / Lucas connection is accurate. That is no rumor. George Lucas has publicly denounced Josh Wheaton (Sp). GL also tanked Wing Commander and the original BSG. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Oh well. I'm younger than he is, so in all likelihood he'll die before me, which means I can have hope that one day there'll be more good sci-fi on TV.

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

B5 is simply ingenius. As a whole, it's definitely the best show I've had the pleasure of watching. And unlike many other shows( like BSG for instance ), they managed to cut a great balance when it came to story-progressing episodes and stand-alone episodes.

It'll be great with some more stuff to watch.

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

George Lucas is the satan of the Sci-Fi industry, with the current writers for Star Trek not far behind him.

Re: B5 Fans, Good News

Ya, Enterprise really dropped the ball with the whole Romulan thing. They really and quite definitively stepped on fans toes there. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

However, Manny Cotto did try and save the show, but to be honest, unless it was a show filled with rap stars, it was doomed to fail on UPN. And note, UPN went the way of the Arseno Hall Show. When you cater solely to one class of people, you alienate all others. Enterprise was simply to intelligent for the viewing population of UPN and thus its ratings tanked and the show died. This, more so than the writing, killed the show.

Stepping on the toes of fans by destroying accepted historical cannon was simply to insulting for most fans to allow to slip by without a hissy fit. Brandon Braga and Rick really enticed a huge fur-ball when they pissed on the fans and TOS.

B5 wouldn't have been finished if TNT hadn't picked it up. What you are probably remembering is the end of the sequel series "Crusade". It was killed because someone within TNT wanted to turn it into Star Trek with lots of stupid alien sex and JMS would not allow this.

Lucas has a lot of clout in the movie industry but I don't think his reach extends very much into television (except where television is produced by companies that also produce movies). The main problem with television is the requirement for everything to be suitable for the lowest common denominator and zero attention-span audience. And that's why B5: Crusade was killed. JMS wouldn't let them dumb it down.
