The Kindly Ones
So, the global The Kindly Ones attacks all mages that have blood magic....
Does this include Pretenders? Also, do they attack frienly blood mages? |
Re: The Kindly Ones
I suppose they do. From the description, it seems like a blood mage is a blood mage, no matter who they follow or whether or not it's a god.
It's one of those "Screw everyone equally" spells, unless of course you don't have any blood mages at all. |
Re: The Kindly Ones
they actually attack anyone who hurts a virgin...
this means: A) people casting blood magic spells B) people who kill your virgins in battle C) people who forge magic items with virgins D) people who empower their blood levels and strangely E) people who wish for "magic power" and gain that initial level of blood magic (but not subsequent wishes, adding subsequent levels of blood magic) |
Re: The Kindly Ones
Has anyone actuallly cast the spell? I'm in a position now where I've already cast it and I need to know for sure if its going to come back and haunt me (i have a rainbow pretender and cant recall if it has blood!!).
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Are you sure about that Wish? Its been attacking indy blood mages. They dont do any of the actions you list, unless they are constantly blood hunting?
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
I have casted the spell once during a game. I was not playing a blood nation so I am not sure if it will affect your mages.
The Kindly Ones did attack blood mages every single turn until they were finally killed by enemies. They seemed to be pretty decent assassins, but they finally died to a well equipped vanheim commander. They would attack independent of one another and randomly target blood mages as far as I could tell. During this game I am sure I killed enemy bloodslaves on the battlefield, but the 3 kindly ones never attacked my commanders. Also, I think I remember them attacking a pretender (Not 100% sure on this). Oh btw, I noticed they keep afflictions they receive in combat. |
Re: The Kindly Ones
if they sacrificed any of their virgins during a battle they become a possible target. I've tested with it thoroughly, and saw them attacking bogus' comrades and the like as well.
my blood mages that did nothing with virgins never got attacked. they are unique, so they keep whatever, just like other unique folks. |
Re: The Kindly Ones
So in theory you could use them as cursed item vectors by letting them eat some cheap bloodmages? Ugly surprise for whatever is strong enough to kill them.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Now that would be intresting.....Get them to equip slave collars (by having them kill a cheap blood mage with one) and anyone who kills them gets an unpleasent suprise http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Re: The Kindly Ones
If I remember properly, there are three Kindly Ones, and each one attacks different commanders -- one attacks blood mages, the other two I don't remember.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Pretty sure they all just attack blood mages. Thats what I've seen so far.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
I thought they ever interesting so I used them. Frist time I tried I was Pangaea against Milan. Even tho my Pan's never used blood magic they were attacked. I have never seen them atk someone without blood magic.
They are real strong. I had a arch mage prender that used wish for 3 times for power and wish his magic skill up to 9-11 in everything and he still got killed. Any blood magic makes them target you. |
Re: The Kindly Ones
They do not distinguish between friend or foe. They took out my dom 10 wyrm without trouble (e3 friendly dominion 352 or so hp). I was Bogarus that game when qm casted it and it murdered half my startets. Then it turned around and killed his rainbow pretender that he casted it with =D.

Re: The Kindly Ones
They are very strong against some things but are actually quite vulnerable to certain enemies. Anything undead that spams skellies has a pretty good shot against them.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
If the description is correct, one should attack blood mages, one heroes with many kills and the third just random... That's one of those spells you'd like to know what actually does :D
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
They all attack blood mages, mainly. But I've also seen some of them go for other targets maybe one in five times.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
LOL, i dont even remember starting this thread :)
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
I'd suggest cutting down on the alcohol and weed
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Well it was almost two years ago. This one's a slow burner. :)

Or wait, maybe it was WoW where that worked for me. Can't remember. No short term memory. |
Re: The Kindly Ones
Lingchih, alcohol and weed are bad for you and you shouldn't advertise it on a public forum. Same goes for WoW :D

I notice you didn't contradict him about WoW :)
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Yes Sombre I'm sure you are the expert here... Now I could see you need it to get your artistic inspiration and without it you'd be nothing but in general it's bad.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Quite right. If one of my generals had weed in him, I'd certainly think it was bad.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Except if it is a Vine King :D
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Or a Hoburg commander.
|
Re: The Kindly Ones
Back to the topic, the Kindly Ones have a poison cloud, fear +10, are ethereal, fly, and cast darkness at the start of battle. Skellispam is a good defense. I've seen imps take them out too. On the other hand, I've lost them to a commander protected by 4 or 5 banes.
They are not amphibious. So, you can hide your blood mages in a sea province during the enchantment. I'm curious though, does anyone know if they can penetrate domes? |
Re: The Kindly Ones
Heh, if they only attacked blood mages, they'd be pretty weak. In two turns they attacked me 3 times, one attacked a B1 priest and was slain by Leechx2 (and bodyguards to attract her attention) and another one twice in a row attacked theurgs making a communion, one of them had a lot of arts (which she gathered), both were slain.
So, it's pretty easy to defend blood mages, but not so easy to protect regular ones. During AC you at least may now that if you mage doesn't spend gems he won't be attacked and with the Kindly Ones you may never be sure. But still a pretty weak global |
Re: The Kindly Ones
I once had an immortal attacked the one turn that he was outside my dominion.
