Can\'t Launch Units Remotely! Help!
What could be the cause of this? Possible bug?
In our current PBEM game I have lost the ability to remote launch. Not from any Minelayers, not from any Planets, etc… …No, there is not max units in the area I am trying to launch. Although, there is a large number of Total units in the game by all players, and another player has at least 4 times as many units as I do (but I’m not sure how many of those are in space). …No, I am not launching the wrong type of unit (i.e. fighters from a minelayer). I have been very careful about this. Facts: I had the ability to remote launch for about 85(?) turns of the game, then suddenly, I continued to give the “Launch Units Remotely” order, and it appeared, but after the turn was processed, the order was cleared with no result. No warning or error message either. After I attacked one of my opponents, close to turn 95, I actually regained the ability for about 2 turns, but then lost it again! (maybe it had something to do with the total reduction of units, although I really did not lose any; he did.) Anyone else had this happen? Any ideas? |

i think the max units in space limit has been reached, when you destroyed his units, you were able to launch yours untill the limit was reached again

I do not believe this is the case; the other players are able to launch remotely at will.
The limit appears only to apply to me. |

The max unit in space limit is per player. So if the limit is set to 500 every player can have 500 units in space. So if you have reached that limit you're **** out of luck. Personally I don't like such arbitrary limits in games at all and always set them to the maximum possible.

ftrs, mines and sats all count against your maximum limit in space. Check what maximum setting for units for the game. If its set low, 500 or 1000, it doesn't leave much open especially if you are using a lot of mines. Remember, as long as they are not launched into space they don't count. Only those units actually launched count towards your totals. This way you can still build them on your planets to replace what you use up but again, only up to the maximum set per player.
I also always set this limit to its maximum when playing, when defending planets & WP 1000 mines alone don't go very far let alone ftrs and sats. just some ideas mac |

Open up the Ships/Units icon. Your total units in space is reported there. The absolute maximum effective for settings.txt is 5000 each, verified. I watch that number very closely and compare against what still needs to be launched. You can try bringing fighters/ sats back into your colony cargo bays to make more room. Mines once deployed cannot be recovered. BUT if you no longer need a stack of mines, you can select it then go into the scrap icon and self destruct the entire stack.

Yes the units in space appears to be the problem... our setting was 1000/player.
Only, when I tried to give any of my mines the self-destruct order, the "self-destruct" order appears in the ships/units view, but it never executes. Another thought was to "fire on" them, but this does not work either. As of right now, I can't get rid of them... Looks like another bug. |

Yeah, I have that problem with old mines and sats as well. Can't self destruct them. If I really wanted to I guess I could collect the sats with ships, but it's just not that big a deal.

SM, I never had trouble getting my mines to self destruct in any of my games, however, you may want to try a ship with a spaceyard on it in the same location, then try & see if the self destruct would take place. remember only the units in space can self destruct or be salvaged. To be salvaged you must have a spaceyard present either on the planet or on a ship. I don't know if the spaceyard will work for you and your problem but you might want to give it a try. IF your mines or sats are on a planet they must either be jettisoned as cargo or launched and then self destructed or salvaged. if still in the cargo bays these are the only ways that I know that you can get rid of them

Most of my mines were launched remotely directly from a planet or from a minelayer... hmmm the common denominator is that there is no shipyard present! Son-of-a-gun, does this mean that the self-destruct order requires a shipyard?!? Not cool, but I think you are correct. I will try to detonate some mines over a planet with a shipyard, to see if it's true. They sure as heck won't detonate any other way so far... |

Like I stated before and ND also, I have never had problem self destructing mines anywhere. If you find you need to have a spaceyard or planet before they will destruct I think you may want to re-install the game and newest patch. When you go to the, I believe, Analyze button, green triangle and click on it you should see on the right the buttons to self destruct, etc.
This should work, Sometimes you'll hear an explosion sometimes not. Then check the area where your mines were and see if still there. If its not working correctly then something is wrong. Also don't forget if you are showing more then 1 item on the left side, example, ftrs, mines, base, etc, you have to clik on the one you want to self destruct or scrap. You have to do this for each catagory. If this still doesn't work, I would re-install. Remember, you must lst click on the item on the left and put into middle screen before anything will happen even if you only have one item. You should be able to detonate mines anywhere. I forget which window you go to but I do it all the time with mine on WP in the rear area.

Guys,
I think the issue here is (sim) PBEM games. I know there are Posts from other players here having the same problem. I have been able self-destruct in Turn-based games. I just did another install of 1.41 and will test with the most current. |

You're right there, all my experiance is with single player/hotseat.
If you can't find a solution maybe you can give them to an ally (or enemy) if you promise to sweep them. Then you could backstab them and keep them from launching more units! |
