Tartarian Gate, but no Titan?

I just cast Tartarian Gate and saw no Titan appear. Is there some probability of this result? Or is there some weirdness (or possibly a weirdness that can be avoided?), that might be causing this to occur?

I cast a lot of titans and never had a problem with it. You know that a titan only has a 20% chance of being a commander?

Is the spell in the message list?

Tartarian gate summons a titan as soldier not a commander. You have to use gift of reason to make him a commander.

the same issue with wish. wish for a nataraja and doesn't seem to be there, but it is in the army setup as a unit.

I do not play death pretenders too much, but i think there are a limited number of them, and if they have all been summoned none will respond.

I knew that! (But, yes I did forget http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif) I'm not at home, but I'm pretty sure that's the problem and I'll find out when I get back. It's good to know the % chance for getting a commander - thanks!

I think there are unlimited Tartarians... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

If they are unlimited in Dom III, that was definitely not the case in Dom II.

I thought they were unlimited in both... I've definitely summoned a fair batch of them including duplicates in both Doms2 and Doms3

I have not played death in a long time, but i clearly remember getting the message that no more of that unit was available to answer the call, or something like that.

And my MP opponent at the time was playing ermor, and he had them all. But that was definitely in dom II, not III.

Wrong, I've gotten commanders from plenty of tartarian gates.

What may have happened is you have a large group of commanders in the province and you could not see the the whole list and it appeared at the bottem of the list and you couldn't see it without scrolling down.

A similar thing happens with units in army set up, you may have had so many units there you literaly couldn't see the end and it appeared there.

Or perhaps someone had a somthing like "The Wrath of God Active" or had cast "Fires from afar" and out of pure luck got your summoned titan.

If not any of those, I'd say there'd be a limited amount, have you tried summoning anymore titans?

No, in fact he is precisely correct. As calmon pointed out there is a percentage chance that any given Titan will be a commander. When I got back home I checked out my turn result again and sure enough, the Titan is there in the garrison as a non-commander.

Re: Tartarian Gate, but no Titan?

Well that wouldn't make him precisely correct, just correct in your case, since Tartarian Gate doesn't always summon a mere soldier Titan.

Re: Tartarian Gate, but no Titan?

That is true, just the frequency of getting commanders is so low that I forgot about it. When I have a tartarian factory running the commanding ones are just a way to catch up with gift of reason. By the way I have had at least 40 tartarians running around without any messages
