Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Warning! 8000x6000pixels. 800kb D/L
http://imagemodserver.mine.nu/other/..._galaxymap.jpg

Savegame file:
http://imagemodserver.mine.nu/other/...tteeIV/PBC.gam

Mod files:
http://imagemodserver.mine.nu/other/...ttlesv1.6b.zip

Note that Millenia V is the homeworld, and strictly independent. Its benefits will be spread equally to all players.

This game will operate on the original PBC model.
Discussions and orders will be posted on a forum, and the new turns will be posted each weekend.

We will start gathering players for System Lord positions first. Select a System/Region to start in.

The exact size of the region will be determined once all the starting players have selected start positions. Those planets with high value, more facilities, more available slots and existing defenses will naturally be worth more, and territorial ranges including these planets will be smaller overall. Conversely, those regions which include plagued planets and alien threats will be valued lower, and the system lord who starts there will get a larger territory.

For example, out east, there are Phong ships and a plague to deal with, so a system lord starting in that area would be given extra land.

Budgetary concerns will be dealt with via the Krsqk-bot written for the original PBC; Each system lord will recieve credit for the resources produced on their planets, and for the storage capacity of their own storage facilities.
As far as the starting bankroll is concerned, the resources are spread evenly over the storage facilities.
Budgets will be subtracted from when build orders are set, and added to at the beginning of each turn. Trades between system lords are encouraged, prices are free market.

Budget tallies will be posted in a private subforum for the System Lord owning it.

Research will be done in a free market system as well; building research facilities will increase your research budget with which to pick projects to add. Although everybody recieves the benefits of the research, whoever has the research facilities gets to decide the direction research takes, whether military for border systems, or economic for core systems.

Build facilities to boost your economy, bases to defend against threats and ships to expand into new territory.
Negotiate deals with other players for mutual defense or lower trade prices.

This looks pretty cool, but I have the same question as GuyOfDoom

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Basically, it will be forum-based.
The System Lords bicker and scheme and trade and roleplay on the forum, then post their orders in a hidden sub-forum during the week. On weekends, I will take those orders, apply them to the game and process the turn, then update the budgets and post the new savegame.

Those players on the interior of the empire will tend to have more political intrigue and resource haggling, while the ones near the borders will have more exploration and combat to deal with.

I'll play, however I don't have much experience with SE4. So if there is a smaller less important system, I'll take that one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Bardron is a cozy little system quite a few jumps away from the borders, and might make a good place to start.

I'll probably be setting up the forums on se.net, so if you don't have a login there yet, now would be a good time.

Alright, I'll make one.

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

We going to have ship captains and fleet admirals and such like other PBC games? Pillars of Industry? Science ministry? Senate?

I will probably be interested in being a ship/fleet captain. I only got into the last PBC in the tail end, but it did seem to be alot of fun. If of course will be more fun, if we can get a bunch of people to join up and play.

I guess that SEV isnt quite stable/finished enough (AI) for us to use SEV for a PBC game.

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

At the moment there aren't very many ships to control, although that will probably change quickly as the system lords respond to the Phong.

If you don't mind the thin pickings, you could be our first Officer.
It will be a little more mercenary than before; each officer will get their own budget, and ask the local system lords to help fund the fleet ala Xcom, in addition to a small percent of the tax revenue.

The Krsqk-bot finance minister will be able to handle monthly repeat transfers of resources so it won't be undue trouble to arrange.

Will you muscle out your competition by providing a superior service, or spread yourself too thin and fail to protect your region?

Fyron has added subforums for all the players in The Rich End of Town.

Let him know what you want yours renamed to, with optional description.

Wow, I've always been tempted by PBC, and I think this might be the one for me.

Do those nebulae systems get bosses? Put a few shipyard bases in and they could be quite profitable...

Suicide Junkie May 11th, 2007 08:37 AM

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Hey, you're in a bit late, but I can fit you in as the System Lord of Millennia (just the colonies, not the Homeworld).

Nebulae aren't of any value yet, although there is no reason you couldn't stash some of your stuff in there.

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Or a ship-bound post would do, or a space-station manager... do you still get little troop avatars that you can fly about the empire?

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Yes, although I haven't gotten around to adding them to the mod yet.
I've been working on the Finance Automation this weekend.

It now outputs a nice HTML budget page with all your income and taxes, and totals and such.

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Budgets are now posted in the Rich End of Town forums

Except for you, Dogscoff, since you don't have a forum yet.

As Federal Fleet Admiral, I will be looking for ship captains to lead the push into scouting and colonizing new worlds and sectors for the the Federated Worlds. I will alocate ships and resources as needed to those interested. You will at the minimum recieve a ship commission, up to possibly a squardron or even a fleet to command.

Hey SJ, maybe we should get this thread moved to the SEIV sub-forum. People who play SEIV, may not browse this formum because of SEV.

Think of it as playing with competent ministers on http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
You control a bunch of planets, and plot with your neighbours and the military defense forces.

SJ,

Here is a graphic to add to the PBCIV unit logos. Also it would be nice if we can get these added for ship logos as well. This will be the Federated Navy's logo. Feel free to modify as you see fit.

This game is up and running. We are looking for individuals to particpate in a unique SEIV PBW type experience.

We need people to colonzie and manage new worlds, and eventually become System Lords.

We are currently at war with four other alien species, and the military could use capable officers to lead their ships and fleets into battle.

Make a post here and you will be contacted with more info on what to do next.

*Shameless Bump*

Game still running, slowly picking up speed. Could use some more players, especially Naval Officer types, to command ships, squadrons, flotillas and such. Alot of empty space to explore, and 4 bad guys that dont' really like us much.

Kana September 27th, 2007 01:43 PM

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Haven't bumped this in a while.

Game is really starting to get its groove on. The game could still use players to fill many positions. You could try your hand at becoming a system lord, take a position in government, start a corporation, become a banker, a stock market fiend, anything your imagination can dream up, and SJ can implement. Go here to get more information.

There is currently a full system lord position available to take over for those who are interested.

Again another shameless plug and bump.

We have recently picked up some new players, and there is always room for more.

Check out the links below for more information.

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

So who actually does the turn moves? SJ?

Kana February 20th, 2008 03:20 PM

Re: Play By Committee SE4 Game.

Yep SJ is the SecState. He controls the Homeworld, and the game turns.

We just got an influx of players, but as with any PBC game the more people we have playing the more opportunities to create a really good story.

They Navy just got a boost of new officers, but their is plenty of room for new players to work under any of the system lords, or start their own private corporation.
