Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

All the pretenders are uploaded, game is running.

You have a status web page (see PM) and turn notification via email on request. The game is using the "split" version of the CB 1.1 mod, BTW, I placed a link to it in the first post now.

Have fun!

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

Turn 1 finished. I must be of inferior intellect because wraparound maps really confuse me. I am looking forward to a very fun game.

This is my first experience with the CB mod, I briefly glanced over the changes and from what I have seen so far, I really liked my pretender choices for Bandar Log compared to the vanilla pretenders. I am hoping the as I experience the rest of the changes throughout the game, I will be equally satisfied.

Thanks for getting this game going Ich and Saint Dude!

Is man/micah aware that the game has started ? he is pretty close to missing the first turn.

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

I can stop the timer if you want. It's a little dangerous with 24 hours, hence I suggest to use the turn notification by mail.

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

The timer has been reset to 24 hours again. Doesn't make much sense to penalize a player on the first turn.

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

Ich: Thank you so much for hosting and help in setting up the game.

It looks like everyone has played turn 1, so the game has now officially begun.

So when do we start dogpiling QM? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Is the server down?

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

Yep, a brief downtime due to billing trouble... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

I cursed and sweared vilely on the phone and they enabled it again. I hope they have the billing trouble sorted out until the end of the week, it isn't a problem on my end. Sorry that I haven't noticed it earlier.

Is there a nasty war going on somewhere that I don't know about? What the heck happened to Marignon?

Saint_Dude May 25th, 2007 09:07 PM

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

It looks like Mictlan has finished off Man and Marignon and now comes for Ermor. Rest assured, jungle kids, Ermor will not go quietly into the ever after.

Micah May 25th, 2007 11:30 PM

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

I gots runned over by Abysians, not Mictlan. The only thing I managed to do right all game was completely raze my capital (no lab or fort and 500 unrest from pillaging).

Got hit pretty hard by my misfortune picks and hadn't considered the upped indy strength when I was making my pretender, or the upped resource costs for the longbows...essentially I got stuck in my cap for the first 3 months and could only recruit about 7 longbows each turn due to resource limits. I actually made use of "fire and flee."

Live and learn, I suppose, though I mostly learned that I don't like Man.

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

Rumors have it that not even Marignon was brought to a downfall by Mictlan, but by Bandar Log. You should fire your spies.

Saint_Dude May 26th, 2007 01:48 PM

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

In truth we had no spies at all in the far flung lands where these battles took place. We were just making noise to see if we could gather some intel, which has worked out just fine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

So we can assume that Mictlan is unscathed, and that the 200 or so uber blessed jags on our border are a serious threat (as there may be many more reinforcements on the way). Unless of course they want to veer off to the north. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

They have no intention of heading into Ermor lands, we would infact be happy to sign a NAP.

Saint_Dude May 26th, 2007 05:55 PM

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

After much debate our Council of Elders has decided to turn down your generous NAP offer. They reasoned that, while dangerous, it is better to face down 200+ jags here and now than to face 500+ at a later date.

quantum_mechani May 26th, 2007 10:26 PM

Re: Dark Horizon - CB 1.1 MP game

Is that a declaration of war? Our diplomats suggest you hire some actual scouts to assess the danger of Abysia- they have more provinces than we do, without the crippling drain 3 scale. Infact, truth be told, that's the reason for the camp out on your border- some mages and thier friends enjoying the clean, drain-free air.

A tad too many friends for a scholarly pursuit.

Timer disabled as per Saint_Dude's request

Sorry about the delay guys, didn't realize it was paused on my account- thought I just happened to be taking advantage of it.

Server stuff

I'm sorry to have to announce a bad thing (in my opinion): My host is changing from Linux based to Windows based. Not my decision and I can't do much about it, but let me tell you that I don't like it at all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif While it should be theoretically possible for me to get all the nice things back that I have right now (sendmail, webserver, don't know about cronjobs and multiplexers like screen) my trust in Windows as a serious multiuser system is quite low. I don't expect that it would be possible to login graphically (or otherwise?) with more than one connection, I have no idea. I will either try to get my stuff on the Windows system or else use a linux box that I am administrating at my office, or something.

If for some reason you can't connect to the game server anymore (because the DNS records will prolly be changed) then try the current IP: 88.198.59.162

If that doesn't work anymore, too, then I guess the game is on hiatus... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
I'll try to sort it out ASAP but as I wrote before, I'll be busy aswell.

If I know anything definitive I'll let you know.

P.S.: Why does this forum tell me "Post already exists" when I am posting in an entirely different thread??? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

Saint_Dude June 14th, 2007 02:14 PM

Re: Server stuff

Would anyone mind if we just shut this game down?

The game has been bogging down. I am getting pretty busy, and Homer is going on vacation.

Sounds like Ich has his hands full as well.

Foodstamp June 14th, 2007 06:59 PM

Re: Server stuff

Any decision the host makes is fine with me.

lch June 14th, 2007 07:51 PM

Re: Server stuff

I don't decide anything as I'm not participating in the game, unless you were referring to Saint_Dude. I guess turning off the timer kinda killed the game flow here. I'll continue to provide hosting, you decide if you want to keep it up or not.

lch June 15th, 2007 11:25 PM

Server switch complete

In case you are still interested in continuing the game, the server switch is finished. The game is now up and running at valhalla.techno-mage.com with everything else staying the same. I'm using nbsmtp instead of sendmail for now, so if you don't get the turn notifications via email anymore then send me a PM. (which only applies to Foodstamp http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif)

Big thanks to Gandalf Parker who is providing the host.

Saint_Dude June 16th, 2007 01:43 PM

Re: Server switch complete

Thank you once again Ich for helping to set up the game and hosting.

However, I think we may as well shut this game down.

Foodstamp June 16th, 2007 01:57 PM

Re: Server switch complete

Well if we are shutting down the game I might as well confess. It was me who took out Marignon. I didn't want to boast about it because I was afraid that doing so would align multiple enemies against me.
