Games that are looking for substitute players

This thread is supposed to contain info on games that are looking for substitute players. Newbies are encouraged to join running games as a substitute player because they can get their feet wet and get the hang of MP gaming. To quote:

Quote:

Gandalf Parker said:
Hey! You new players! Grabbing one of these replacement slots is a great way to check out MP games without concern over comments. It will be scales you didnt pick, a pretender that might not match the way you play, and often a bad spot in the game. You have ready-made excuses if you dont do well, and plenty of room to crow if you do.

Don't get discouraged, sometimes even players in very good positions are looking for substitutes because they simply don't have the time to play anymore, or lost the interest.

Since I'm reading lots of game threads even if I'm not participating in them, I see the following common pattern alot:
 • somebody wants to drop out of the game because he doesn't have the time to participate anymore
 • he tells that he'd like a replacement in the game thread
 • the others continue playing like usual
 • after 5 more turns nothing has changed and either said player sets himself to AI or the host does it because he has been stalling all the time
This is happening far too often than necessary, I have seen it for at least half a dozen games by now. You can't expect that potential new players work through all the game threads to find a vacant position that they can fill. But there are lots of players waiting to play a new game, or take over a nation at least. If the host creates a new "looking for a sub" thread, then they usually have a replacement player within 24 hours, but most of the time they only change the title for their game thread, at most, and nobody signs up.

We should have a central meeting point for these games that are looking for substitute players and players that are looking for games to join, so this is the thread for it. Maybe a mod can sticky this thread if it turns out to be useful.

I'd like that whenever a game/player is looking for a substitute, that they should post in this thread with a short info about the open position looking to get filled, short info about the game, and a link to the game thread. If you get a substitute player or set the nation to AI later on, then please edit your post and state that you're no longer looking for the sub. New players, please respond directly in the game thread if you want to fill the position.

NewDawn game

Bump, I'm looking for a replacement for EA Sauromatia in the NewDawn game.

Early Age game, using the NewDawn map, everything on default, 72h timer (maybe you could help speed it up by getting your turns in early), we're on turn 29 at the moment.

Your nation isn't one of the strongest factions (could be because there have been some stale turns), but the situation isn't hopeless either, others have it worse. You're even second-highest in number of provinces - nobody else likes swamps all that much. All the other factions seem to be at war with each other, you could make some allies and join in that fun.

If you're interested to take over the nation then please apply in the game thread. As long as no replacement has been found I'm going to input some turns myself to prevent stalling.

Edit: Seems like that position has been filled by CUnknown. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Re: NewDawn game

Since the Perpetuality game is on a 24 hour timer, I'm going to need a sub for this weekend (Vegas, baby... Vegas!) from Friday to Monday. It's early in the game and I'm woefully ill-equipped to deal with even indies at this point, so it'll be easy turns to build up enough of Patala's crappy troops to take them on. Here is the thread for the game and server info:

Re: NewDawn game

Hi, I am going to be gone next week, and I might need someone to take over my empire in Invisible Swarm. I'm the host, so I'll slow down the game timer, at least, so you'd only have to take like 2-3 turns.

Also, we will most likely need a replacement for Caelum in that game. Caelum is not in a bad situation, I don't believe, but Remmy hasn't been taking turns for a few days. He might show back up, but each stale turn he gets, it makes it less likely imo that he'll come back. We have been on a 24-h quickhost timer, so a few days absense is like 3 turns he's staled.

Edit: subs found!

The T'ien Ch'i position in the Middle Way probably needs a sub. It's a pretty strong position, or so I've heard.

Re: NewDawn game

To use the words of the current T'ien Ch'i player (Hellboy):
Quote:

For those considering the position, I would describe it as one of the stronger nations in the game, but well behind that of the leading nation, Helheim. T'ien Ch'i has significant resources to spend at I'm just at the peak of a long buildup of research/resources. I'll be happy to brief any player taking over in detail, via PM or email.

Re: Substitution needed (Perpetuality)

Edit: Substitute found. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'm visiting the eternal city of Rome next week, from wednesday 30th of May to saturday 2nd of June, and I would need a substitute player for my nation in Perpetuality 62-player megagame.

Your mission, should you take it, is to ensure the prosperity of MA Agartha during the four days I'm absent. Currently MA Agartha can be described as "average", yet the situation is quite volatile as room for expansion is getting sparse. I foresee no big trouble in coming days, however surprises may happen. I will leave instructions how I wish to see my empire tended, but you may improvise if you want.

PM me for more details.

Re: Substitution needed (Perpetuality)

You might check in IRC. There are some expert players there that didnt want to join the game for fear of micromanagement later on. Filling in this early in the game would be perfect for them.

Thanks for the tip Gandalf, actually I've been hanging around the irc channel past week. Not much activity there now but I'll ask around if/when I get desperate come next monday. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Early Age vanilla game looking for sub for Lanka

EDIT: The position has been filled.

An early age game on another forum is looking for a replacement for Lanka. Currently on Turn 60.

Settings:
Map: Medium to Large Random map, 14 starting nations, 17 provinces per player
Age: Early
Independents: Average
Graphs: Enabled
Renaming: On
Magic Sites: 50%
Random Events: Common
Resources: Average
Research: Average
Hall of Fame: 15 slots
Victory: Standard

Lanka is probably the strongest faction in the east and has a good blood economy. In the west the nations Vanheim and Caelum overshadow the other nations, but Vanheim would have to go through Caelum to reach the smaller other nations in the east, so there is no predetermined winner yet.

In case you are interested, send me a PM so that I can pass on the information. You should then register on the forum.

Middle age game is looking for a sub for Man. Currently on turn 52.

15 provinces per player, default settings.

Man is currently not at war, and has not been at war for a little while. Score graphs show Man's position is average, but the reality is slightly worse http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

PM vfb if you'd like to look at the position or want more info.

Looking for a sub for a week

The Newbies game that I'm hosting is looking for a temporary sub for the coming week for T'ien Ch'i. You're doing quite good, currently sieging the capital of another nation and about to remove that player from the game, if I remember correctly. Timer is at 48h quickhosting. If you have some spare time and are able to play 3-5 turns during the next week, then please apply in the game thread.

Gandalf's_mid_unlucky is looking for a Kailasa replacement. Turn mid 70's

Currently Kailasa is in the lower power tier, but for the most part unthreatened. Still a good opportunity to have some fun.

Pythium looking for a sub

Replacement player in the mod nations game needed

EDIT: Found a replacement, Morkilus is taking over.

The mod nations game named <a href="showflat.php?Cat=&Number=533507&Main =526583#Post533507" target="_blank">"Neo Xekinima"</a> is looking for a replacement player for one of the nations (sea-faring dwarf pirates!). That means that you'll completely take over from now on. It is still very early game (turn 7 currently) and while you have now lost a little bit of tempo you're pretty much on the same level as the others. Please apply inside the game thread.

LoloMo July 6th, 2007 09:27 AM

Re: Replacement player in the mod nations game needed

Bump!

Neo Xekinima - This is a really fun game, with all new nations. No pre established strategy, you don't know what that other nation is packing, and each nation has some secret trick up its sleeve.

If you've never tried mod nations before, this is the game to try it!

(Substitute found for Neo Xekinima!)

Late age game

Somebody can take over LA Atlantis in Veturi (WH and CB mod, 7 players):
Quote:

Lazy_Perfectionist said:
#1 in provinces by a significant margin, with Pangaea pulling up in second, possibly to pass, unless I actually get involved in a war.
#1 in built forts, might help with catching up in research.
#1 in income, more or less tied with the nation of man.
Barely #1 in gem income, but its nothing special, considering the number of sites I've given level 9 scans to. I am opening up some other paths than water and death, though, so there is some hope, though nothing very promising.
Research is third from LAST. But ready to climb upward thanks to those forts I mentioned.
Dominion is middle of the road, with dominion walls at my land borders, but lots of hostile dominion in my seas.
And my army size is actually respectable if you take Ermor and Pangaea out of the equation.
Strategic vision is next to last, but I've been pretty good at avoiding stalls.

I don't want to make too much information public because it would handicap any replacement, but I'll share a bit to provide the flavor.
My scales are order 2, productivity 3, cold 2, magic 1. With temples, my dominion is 7 in my capital.

My current NAPs have varying terms, but they're more or less expiring right about now. My pretender is not a supercombatant, but is based around being a mobile spellcaster.

Please apply in the game thread.

Re: NewDawn game

In the Dark Matter game, MA Caelum doesn't have the time to keep playing.

He's actually in quite a strong position- certainly one of the top 3, among the 5 remaining powers. According to the charts, he's top in Research, Gem Income, and (barely) Income.

I'm not the host (that's Zachariah), just an interested player, so I don't know all the game's little details. Sorlakind is the current player of Caelum, contact him for the password!

Re: Late age game

I'm about to go for a week long vacation, therefore i'm looking for a substitute for 3 games, from Monday July 30th to Sunday August the 5th.

Games are:
Jaguar (PBEM on llamaserver) - ME R'lyeh, mid game, small map, at war, good position, 36h timer.

Perpetuality (on Velusion's server) - EA Pangea, big map, mid game, at war but not much to needs to be done, average position, 48h timer.

Nuance (on Velusion's server) - ME Pythium, medium map, mid game, at peace, good position, 48h timer.

I'd estimate 3 hosting during the week i'm away, turns take me about 5min each for Perpetuality and Nuance, about 20minutes for Jaguar, so hopefully i'm not asking for too much commitment.

Please send me a PM if you're willing to help.

AreWeInsaneYet has unfortunately had to stop playing due to an unexpectedly big project on his course. The remaining game needing a sub is Caelum in Chupacabra. Although Caelum's staled a couple of turns it's position looks recoverable to me, and would probably be a fun challenge. Please let me know if you're interested.

NewDawn

I'm looking for a replacement player for my nation in the NewDawn game, since I'm going to travel a bit in some days.

Caelum, Early Age, turn 46, you got very much time to do your turns (timer is at 72 hours). It's a decent position, I could have expanded faster but I played a very solid game instead. Some nice gimmicks available, you're ready to rock and roll.

Re: NewDawn

JanIm - you could take a look at Arco's position in Capybara if you want. It's quite late in the game, and I don't know what the position's like, so it might not be much fun. I was going to set it to AI but forgot. So if you like you can take a look at the turn, see if you're interested in trying to turn the situation around, and if you're not you can just set it to AI.

If you'd like to do that just send me your e-mail address in a PM.

Ive recently been hit by a suprise holiday and will be heading to spain 24 hours from now, returning early on monday the 20th.

Im going to need 2 subs, 1 for Nuance and 1 for Justified Aggression.
In both games I am playing MA Ermor.
Justified Aggression is on turn 10. Im in an early war with Ctis and neither of us have really been gaining much ground - PM me for info and if you are interested in subbing(or taking over, if you like)
Nuance is on turn 45. I am in a fairly strong position and need a temporary sub. PM me for details.

Perpetuality Sub Needed - SUB FOUND

I am leaving on a holiday for 1 month and I need a temporary substitute for Machaka in Perpetuality for the time I am away.
Forum page for Perpetuality 62 player game

I am in a reasonable position and currently in a very entertaining war with LA T'ien Chi. You could learn a lot from this position and have some fun in the process. I do not want to go AI since Machaka is important for various other nations and I want to come back and play eventually.

I will hand over after the August 22nd's host and come back on the 20th September. PM me for details.

Turn 69
EA Lanka needs a permanent sub
Good yet interesting

Still a strong position, plenty of resource income, large armies and strong mages. The original player (K) had good success but had to leave, after a few stales I took it over just to prevent it from going AI. Mostly been setting things to rights and preparing defenses. Still have a huge resource pool to do what you want!
