MInefields?

How do minefields work? I was unaware that ships could pass through them undamaged.... this is not good news.. ships WITHOUT minesweepers to clarify

The mines are on a warp point with no abilities... The mines DO have warheads. The ship in question is a frigate. There were 2 combat logs with the ship and minefields.. No damage to either the mines or the ship. The ship is presently still in the hex with the mines and the warp point.

Thanks,

Javaslinger

Re: MInefields?

Was the ship in the hex when the mines were layed or did it move into the hex after the mines were layed?

Mines worked always as they should in my games.
What type of warheads have your mines?
The combat logs however are not useful/correct if minefields are triggered.

Is this stock or Balance Mod or some other mod?

I too would like an explanation on how mines and mine sweeping works.

Re: MInefields?

I have a planet where mines were dropped during a fight. They make a line from a spot to the edge of the map (in combat). I also had a fight on a warp point where the ship ran dropping mines behind the ship as it ran. It too made a straight line off the map with mines in a long row. Apparently, the game remembers where the mines are dropped and you must pass that spot to hit them.

Re: MInefields?

You can move them using System View, can't you? Never actually used mines myself in SEV, but at least that's true for all other units/ships.

Thus the best solution would be to surround the warp point/planet with the mines.

That would be the first i heard of moving them? Anyone tried this?

Minefields work totaly different if a ship moves into a mined sector, than if the ship is already in the sector.

Re: MInefields?

This is how it works: If the sector only contains friendly ships and you launch the mines, they will gather in a circular pattern around the warp-point/planet. Not exactly sure how they are placed if an enemy occupies the sector.

At any rate, mines are movable like the other units; the problem is that they have the 'Unit is invisible in combat' ability, which unfortunately makes the mines invisible even to its owner, and even outside combat( sector-view ), so they cannot be select for moving.

So I propose we bug Aaron about making the "Invisible in Combat" ability work in such a way that the units are not invisible to their owner, only to the enemy.

Re: MInefields?

Even then, do you seriously want to waste you time moving 100 mines one by one? A box selection combined with drag and drop (andmaybe formations) would be a good addition!
