No interest in tournament games?

I finally got around to setting up two actual tournament games (after much testing), and I'm not seeing a lot of interest, was wondering why.

Is the timing bad? Everyone is in Megagame right now, might just be full schedules.

Are people not really interested in doing a tourney?

Do people not like the rules for the tourney itself, including for nation selection?

Do people not like the maps, game settings or game sizes (8 players) that I'm using?

Can people not do an initial weekend blitz?

I picked the settings I have after a fair amount of testing - but if people aren't happy with them, I'll change them.

Well, a rather full schedule has something to do with it, although I was intrigued by the tournament. It seems it is rather geared for a quick fight strategy, while I am more of a diplomacy type player. Also, I dislike blitzing, although I've done it a few times.
Maybe if it could be a limited blitz, like, blitz the first 8 or 10 turns, then go quickhost, I would be interested. I just don't like the thought of tying up my whole day blitzing.

Timing's bad for me, I'll be up for one in about a month (About to go out of town for 2 weeks and don't want to start anything new til I get back)

I think the idea is cool, but I don't really like the idea of blitzes.

It sounds fun, but the reason I play this game is the game only takes a half hour or less of my time each day. I don't have time to devote to blitzes.

Yeah - blitzes don't appeal to a lot of players, and non-blitzes aren't suited to tournament play - six month games and all that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Its a good idea DrPraetorius but I did not have any spare time to join.

I think there may be a summer lull thing going on as well. A few games have started recently as well and they all seem to be filling slowly so its not just your tournament games.

I would love a tournament game, but do you have to start it on the summer ?. Im going away and im guessing people have a lot else to do than play dominions during the summer (might be just me but I doubt it).

For me it's both being too busy (lots of games have started recently, plus I am working on my server), and also the fact that I can never make a weekend blitz.

I'll join my voice in with everybody else that I'm at my game limit right now and can't commit to a blitz.

Sounds like the Ladder, and the MP Hall of Fame, and other efforts. People seem to like them but they dont seem to go well. If you want, I can hold off creating new blitzes on my server in order to generate interest in the tourney games.

As a seperate item:
there was interest in the "Sitting on the fence" thread in setting up games where all of the Early Ulm people could play each other to decide who had the best Early Ulm build (and one for each other nation). It would require some modding.

Re: No interest in tournament games?

It would also only work for nations that can be achieved by modding - meaning that any nation with udnerwater and land recruitment both, any nation with freespawn, and any nation with a cool dominion power (Arco, MA Agartha) couldn't be done this way.

I agree with you, Evilhomer, I have a heck of a lot to do this summer. Yardwork, going to the gym, and a full-time job, just to name a few. Despite that, I'm still playing a lot of Dom3, mostly because it doesn't take long to play a turn right now, even in several games.

My schedule is full.

I am in 3 games atm, big game, epic heroes, and alpaca. And I am still testing Epic Heroes Mod in sp games.

For me, its a lack of experience. I've got my brain full handling learning three different races - MA Agartha, LA Atlantis (CB), MA Shinuyama. I'm interested, but I won't be joining one anytime soon, since pretender design is a painfully slow process for races I haven't any experience with.
