valos german adventure
So here starts my minimalistic campaign. the first battle was an assault against poland. my core consisted of the HQ and an aty VB.
I was given temporary command of a gorup of infantry with mmg scout and sniper support. their mission was mainly to find targets for the 6 mortars and the 4 Guns. The Luftwaffe gave me some Schlachtfliger and Stukasupport. The first airattacks were fruitless and only triggered aafire by some mgs that forced one Schlachtflieger to return to base. The infantry infiltrated through the weakly held line routing one polish squad in the process and my aty started to pound the aamgs with little substantial effect. The scouts moved forward to the map edge while the infantryzug fought it out with some poles. in this battle the Hq squad singlehandedly routed 2 enemy infantrysquads with only "little" help from the Aty that was directed precisely by Observer Moehlmann and his helper. The polish resistance was weak and after some fighting in a woody area the battle enden with 198 polish causalities vs 9 germans wounded and 2 killed. The Luftwaffe proved that it is pretty worthless in Assaults After this Draw iam ordered to take command of a Group of Sicherungstruppen to hold this sector. It consists of two platoons of second line Inf, 4 MGs, 3 8cm mortars with ammo wagons a marksman and a reserve of 2 mark2 tks. The Luftwaffe has send 2 me 110 into this sector to strafe the attacking polish inf hordes and a storch. My core has been enhanced by a sniper that maybe later trained for longrange recon drops if he shows some talent. The terrain consits of a large wood area in the south and a crossroad in a village in the north. this village is the place to hold. note: why are paratroop snipers not freely purchaseable? |

Guten Tag, Kommandeur Valo.
Interesting concept for a campaign, one I've never tried. Did I get this right? you just started with a HQ and and a Arty FO, and are using points granted to buy your force? What size maps are you using? Awaiting your next SITREP. Eternal War(gaming) PanzerBob |
Re: valos german adventure
i will buy a new unit every other scenario or every second scenario. And i will try to go with a relatively realistic core setup.
My delay battle is so far going relatively good the polish attack seem to be stoped and my 2 infantry platoons are stil at 75%. but i have lost 2 mg. after they had nearly shot all their ammo off.The poles have lost all their tanks one too 2cm shells from a tank and 4 to close assaults. their infantry is largely retreating and i am thinking if i should chase them but there might be a reserve. currently the map is 60x60 what makes the battle more fighting and less maneuvering and it seems to be easier. i used to play on a 200x200 map but that gets boring with a small force. |

Re: valos german adventure
my counterattack met the second polish wave and had to retreat. one mark2 was immobilized in front of probably 60 poles and the crew tried to get away because there was no way holding their position.
But the poles showed no mercy and concentrated all their fire on the fleeing crew. the second mark2 triedt to protect the crew but only caught an atrifle bullet. the damge was only cosmetical so this one could retreat to help the sicherungstruppen. The polish second wave didnt get as far as the first one before it was stopped by rifle mg and mortarfire. my new sniper shoot away 3 ammoloads and almost singlehandedly stalled a companysized attack. the ammowagons were a really forcemultiplier because they made continious mortarfire possible and the other units also did run low on ammo near the end of the battle and without supply i would have had to retreat. |
Re: valos german adventure
the next battle was a meeting engagement between a cavalry recon troop commanded by me and a reeinforced polish infantry company.
My core will be a recon troop for this period of the war and so i added a Kavalleriezug with dismounts. My mission was to secure a bridge before the poles could go there and destroy it. For this i had another troop of dismounts,2xMGs 3xMortars 3 lmg squads 3 Panzerbuechsen and ammo supply. All with cavalry transports. The Luftwaffe provided Schlachtflieger and 2 me109s as support. as the battle commenced i took my mgs and lmgs to ridges overwatching the river and my dismounted cavalry platoons took reverse slope postions covered by the mgs. the poles tried to take the ridges on the eastern bank of the river an were surpised that my men already overwatched thoose positions. Most of the battle consisted of polish infantry trying to go through mg fire and mortar bombardment. that didnt work for them. the cavlry transports flanked this attack and took out the enemy aty at turn 20 or so. with the aty gone there was no chance at all for the poles to ever gain a foothold on thoose ridges or to take the bridge. at the end of the battle 100 poles were causalities and 400 taken prisoner against only 12 wounded and 4 dead on my side. i have asked hq for some armoured support to my recon group maybe an armoured car.But as Panzers are needed everywhere i dont know if i will get something. My sniper covered the road leading to the bridge |

My next job was to delay an expected polish conterattack on a bridgehead a recon platoon established near the town of Broszki. As can be seen on the map (hopefully) i deployed my units in the cornfields on the easter bank of the river.
the Poles tried some platoonsized attacks that were beaten of relatively easy with aty support. unfortunately all 3 spw221 were lost or immobilized one to a close assault near the highway jaworow krakowiecz. the other 2 were badly dameged by continious aty fire. my platoon held the northern part of the map and had an easy time only the sniper and the mg saw some firing. Why the poles had fixed me with thoose peacemeal attacks from the front a large tank force bypassed my positions by going through the large wood and on the last turn they appeared an took a few vh unfortunately also the bridge. then the scenario ended http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif lucky me. because of this attack all units were withdrawn to save them from encirclement. that means we have to take the bridge again. My stay in this sector will be prolonged. |

After the loss of the bridgehead it was decided another comannder should take brozki and i was sent to rearguard actions for the rest of the polish campaign. During thisoperations i managed to lay my hands on apolish HMG that will give my team a great firepower improvement.
I was also promised two beutepanzer but they were still o in repairs when my assignment to ardennes started. Our job this time was to spearhead the adance through the ardennes and this placed a little panzergroupo under my command for the second time. Hq seems to have forgotten how i lost one mark2 and had another one badly damaged in poland. in this battle my platoon served as flanl security in the south and was set up to defend a bridge over the Sure in the village of ..... "Sure"!? the new hmg was positioned in one of the hoses as well as the sniper and the light infantry. the local fernch commander here decided he would take the initiative and destroy my forces with a massive infantry attack. he had 2 formidable S-35 and lots of inf and reserve inf under his command. i had 2 mark3b and 2 pz35(t) with a panzergrenadierplatoon and a heavy weaponsplatoon that had my only 8cm mortar and a2 mgs. the frenchmen came in huge numbers hroug on the middle road and where cut down by the panzersmgs. lots of courage and little brains here. the 2 tanks he had were destroyed by my dismounted cavalry. one took 10 assaults to be cracked open. he was warned but he ran back into my ambush 3 times. my new MG manned by schlesiers from the liberated polish regions caught a bad start as the gunner got a bullet in the triggerfinger the whole squad pancked and ran away. As zhey were leaving the building one tripped and fell down the stairway leaving him with a broken arm. Duricng the whole battle a french company tried to get across the bridge at sure and got ponded by mgs and aty. when the were on the other side they were greated by small arms fire and not a single squad was able to cross the bridge. after a while the french courage was over and my tanks broke free taking all the flags and kiling some mortars and stuff. 2 tanks were lost to nasty 25mm aa but in the end it was a total defeat for the french with 93 dead 176 wounded and 380 prisoners. i had only 4 dead and 14 wounded. |
Re: valos german adventure
Don't despair about your HMG - at least the Schlesiers will get their wound badges. Besides - in a couple of years they can make up for their poor performance on the Russian front. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

9 finger jifko has been relocated to one of the cavalry squads and he learned to pull the trigger with his middlefinger.
the HMG Squad is now led by a men from Siebenbürgen. Finally my polish beutetanks have arrived. They are also crewed by schlesiers but we just call them poles. they hate it. After my bad handlicng of the precious panzers in the ardennes where 2 were destroyed and one damaged by mortarfire i have been send to a Flankguardaction near Arras. My forces are stretched thin as i only have an infantryplatoon mgs and some topless tankdestroyers with paperthin armor as at support. At least their gun is good. We expect a british attack that means now nasty french tanks. here are my forces in the deployment the HMG has been placed far behind the lines to make max use of its range. the frontline to hold is a bulge and there will be some shortenings during battle. if the brits manage to get through the weakly guarded centre booth forces will be seperated we will zee what will happen. |

The brits tried to attack me from the south eith tanks and a while later with an infantry company in the centre.
the tanks were easily taken out and the infantrytankriders were taken out by the hmg which did a great job this time firing from far behind like an aty piece. im still wondering how they can hit anything 1 km away in direct fire mode. they must have sharp eyes. the sector guarded by my core was easy to hold and only saw little action. the Landserplatoon had a hard time holding the line in the centre. they ambushed many brits but thoose english infantry is tough. They shoot back when ambushed nasty habit. the jpzs and 7tps tried to help in the middle and in the end even the sniper and the mgs but in the end i was slowly pushed away from the crossroads back to the large village. then the scenario suddenly ended. and as can be seen the brits didnt have much else left besides the infantry. the luftwaffe did some damage this time but not enough to make it worth the points. |

My unit stayed in the same sector and to be able to hold my ground better i got another infantry platoon assigned. It consists of 2 normal infantries one heavymortarinfantry scouts and a pioneer squad made up of students from the technical university of berlin. Unfortunately their technical skills were more or less theoretical in nature and they had some problems handling their explosives and rifles.
My job was it to take the centre crossroad and stop any enemy movemnt o up this road so a panzergroup could move along the northern road. the panzer commander made a great job and with help of the 105mm guns he took out one belgian infantry company 2 mortars and 2 two AD guns along his das through the road. the belgians were trying to flee west on this road and were pretty surprised by our attack. thi sled to the total destruction of the belgian unit only 3 tanks could get away. unfortunately they had some 120mm batteries we couldnt reah yet and 18 of our 23 causalities were from shrapnell wounds. one of the 105ers was hit paticulary hard as the building they fired from collapsed killing 2 and leaving one man with a legwound that led to amputation later. we all feel a bit let down by the luftwaffe that we are still fired on by artillery they should have been taken out already. the belgians lost a 600 men strong taskforce here because the commander didnt use combinded arms tactics and left his infantry to be taken out by my tanks. it looks like this is another sign of the imminent breakdown of belgian armed forces. thi9s was my first major victory and iam promised some organic aty support for my understrength riflecompany with tanks. |

since we destroyed the belgium unit the situation has stalled the last few days. with the norther route cleared the panzers can roll westward and the only enemy presence is a britih strongpoint in the southwest which is commanded by the same officer who tried to push me out of this area a week ago. Since we are short on manpower i was told to stay in position and watch him and his men. During this period of rest my Heavy Weapons Platoon has been formed. I know have my own mortar and a nice english AT Gun we found in the village we captured in the actions against the belgians.
So the last few days have seen some harrasment fire from his mortars on our westwards moving coulums but he hasnt tried another attack. Yesterday divison moved some artillery (a platoon of 75ers and 105ers) into the area and now Divison HQ has decided to send me to take out this strongpoint. to make up for the shortage on manpower (we are about equal with the defenders) i have been allocated access to Kampflieger that will bomb the crap out of the englishman. then my cavalry will ride in and take the survivors as prisoners.(this part of the plan can be subject to some changes) |
Re: valos german adventure
The airstrike was mostly a failure and the village was hit only a little by the bombers. most bombs went into cornfields an didnt do any damage.
the plan was changed in the way that my "company " didnt attack on its own fromnt. instead it followed the other company. the british resistance was rather light and infiltration through the lines worked well with only minimla losses.(1 injured) the village was taken with little resistance of a few dug in infantry squads and ATR teams. The enemy mortars that had shelled our supplies moving along the northern road for days were taken out by 3 consecutive airstrikes. Another mortar was destroyed by our scouts. The brits tried an ill fated counterattack and after a few exchanges of fire most englishman were either on the run killed or captured. this closes the last chapter of allied presence in this sector. we are now to attack further into the south while the "elite" formations" will go after the BEF in Dunkirk. |
Re: valos german adventure
on our road through the countryside we met slight resistance from british units that were dispersed over the countryside.
My company battled around against a company of british light infantry for some hours and with the help of Luftwaffe units who strafed around and took out one of the mortars in the area we were finalyy able to send them into retreat. as they were runnig back they met a Panzergroup that had bypassed them and had taken out their mortar support. Under this circumstances the britsh commander decided it would be best to surrender his remaining forces. now on to Paris. |

As we were moving along the contryside we came across a village at a crossroads. As it turned out there were 2 french infantrycompanies in that are roughly 500 men.
One was reserve and one normal infantry. soon after my men entered the village 2 s-35 arrived that were quickly taken out by my pioneers. My light inf took positions at the crossroads that were shielded from view by the wrecks of the french tanks and artificial fire laid by the pioneers. on the northern flank my tanks pushed forward accompanied by the scouts. to the south i only sent my sniper to watch the situation there. My heavy weapons platoon was positioned 400 m back and fired mortar rounds onto the attacking french. the MGs were also positioned near the village and fired continously on the many waves of french inf. then decided to sit tight and use ambushtactics. after a few turns the french attacked the crossroads where the fields of fire were relatively open. I had my troops on rough terrian and woods but the french outnumbered me heavily and pinned my observers. Then i relaized i needed my tanks that were on a mortar hunt in the enemies rear and i let them appear behind the attacking french but it was to little. withe their 1 mg per vehicle they could only harras the 2 companies attacking and so my observer got shoot in the foot and his helper got his ear blown away. As they were dragged back by the pionneers that had suffered 5 causalities themselves more frnechmen arrived and i had to retzreat a little. 2nd platoon took 3 dead and 12 wounded hear while first platoon(mounted) spent a happy time at the crossroads decimating any french squad that appeared. after i had retreated my men to better positions which had the enemy appear at short ranges and under fire from all units of the platoon as well as the a0 unit the attacks died down as the allies were running a out of men. We couldnt take prisoners here and had tio let the retreatig enemy escape because all mgs were out of ammo and the rifles had only a few rounds left. This was a real intense battle for second platoon at least. at the end of the fernch campaign my forces conssiot of HQ 1xAO 1xScharfschuetze(elite) 1xArtilleriebeobachter(wounded) 1. Kompanie HQ 2xMGteams+1Horsetransport / 2xspäher / 2x7tp tanks 1 zug 3xdismounts+3horsetransport(would like to change into trucks and maybe later SPWS if avaiable) 1xPanzerbuechsenteam 2 zug 1xschwere Infantrie 2xInfantrie 1xPioniere(maybe sturmpioniere later) 3 Zug (unterstützung) 1xPak(4cm(e)) 1xaamg 1xMörsergruppe Logistik 1xPferdewagen 1xMunitionspferdewagen ps pat now i now how easy it is to loose the fo ;P |

Battle of Bjelovar
After the holidays in france my cavalry platton hass been motorized and the cavtransports have been retrained for other infantry jobs(at rifle, sniper pioneer lmg). The transpoertw e got consist of an opel truck an horch truck an armoured truck and a bren carrier we found at the beaches of dunkirk. Our first job was to secure the road running through the city of bjelovar in croatia. since the city is in croatia one of our new allies the yougoslav army had to move in itself and a better of manouver began. the yugos ran head on into the village were they were met by my motorinf. My infantry was retreating from the town centre while the foot infantry advanced to the south of the city covered by the elite sniper. The tanks moved unopposed at the northern flank taking out the 90mm mortars ( a good piecee of equipment i hope i can get some) and then attacking the yugos in bjelovar from behind. meanwhile a recon group of spws and panzergrendiers destroyed an infantry company in the south that was trying to block the road there. then they moved north to attack the remants of the yugo company in bjelovar that was now on its retreat. at the end of the battle all yugoslavs were either dead or captured. we had 8 wia and 2 kia and one mia( amember of th at gun cew went to take a leak in the woods and hasnt reported back yet). enemy causalities were 11 dead 400 prisoners. |

After some movement along the roads into greece with i only minor greek harassment attacks and village clearing were we supported a Fallschirmjaeger+stug platoon we arrived at the metsovon plains.
the italians wanted to make a move and it was my job to make sure they wouldnt fail. My troops were mainly used to guard the italians northern flank while they smahed a britih recon group and advanced along the asphaltroad routing some unsupported infantry platoons in the process. meanwhile the brits tried a cavalrycharge with some cruisertanks and were surprised by one of their 2pounders that is now in my use. Fldwbl Albert got 3 more kill rings on his gun. the italian airforce provided cas and was able to immobilize a matilda tank that was later taken out by a tellermine from the bulgarian platoon now under my command. As can be seen on the map the english succeded in getting completly surrounded and in the end after turn 29/40 they surrendered. we had one wounded anthe italians lost 4 men in their little tankettes to inglis aa guns. there were also some shrapnel wounds from english mortar and 25 pounder fire. the british losses were much higher with 125 dead 300 wounded and 300 taken prisoners. |

After the english were destroyed we moved further through the plains were we met a nz delaying attack that had us occupied long enough that the rest of the enemy could escape.
one major cause for this was the bad terrain and the high quality of the anzac troops. due to lack of armoured support my positions were never endangered of beeing overrun.all in all pretty boring most of the time was spent firing mgs. because the number of unit under 1st kompanies command is getting high i have formed a new kompanie led by a stug iiia a pretty useless piece of equipment. an mg would surely help them. |
Re: valos german adventure
the rest of mai was spent fighting the remants of the greek army who had 3 cruisers in every single battle.
in one of thoose battles the last surviving cruiser moved up and took out one of the poilsh tanks led by oberleutnant podolski. the tank was completely destroyed and podolski died on from his wounds on the way to the lazarett. his crew survived bud was badly injured and is on home leave. after finishing our mission in greece we are tomtake part in army group centres attack on russia. After the balkanfeldzug i managed to get my hands on one of the italian longrange mortars (is this correct pr an oob mistake?). As replacement for podoslki feldwebel zahn in his brand new pz 3h arrived and he iss an elite commander thenks to a bug in the game (if you change a destroyed unit it still has good xp from the crew thart has become causalities). the 2nd Kompanie has been reeinforced by romanian infantry platoon. this kompanie will soon rreceive a hungarian part as well to complete its three infantry platoons as i have heard. Also on the way is one mountain gun i took as trophy in greece. our job in russia is to stop a breakeoutattempt from the kessel of byelovatsomething. support consists of 2 stukas and 3 mobile 5cm paks. wnd kompanie will hold our part of the road and 1st kompanie will attack at the northern flank. btw imho the game can be played with tanks and scouts alone i am not very well at infantry command because the enemy is always superior in numbers. A kessel has been produced and some russians are trying to break out |
Re: valos german adventure
1 Attachment(s)
after a series of skirmishes and the surrender of the russians in the kessel we moved on into ukraine. it was our job to secure a railway bridge in this area and what looked like an easy job became a heavy fight.
the area around the bridge was full of russians and at least a company of russian tanks attacked us.in the shortrange firefights with a few t-50 tanks our 3h was beadly damged receiving 2 hits to the turret. It had to retreat ot of the battlefield. a few minuits later the stug3a of second company received a catastrophic hit as it ran into a t26. we are now down to one polish tank and 2 mg carriers in the armor part...... in the meantime 2nd kompanie was able to cross the river and is approaching the railwaybridge. |
Re: valos german adventure
the battle ended with a total rout for the russians and 2nd kompanie arrived in their back to shoot retreating units. Seeing this the russians surredered.
all battles against the russians follow the same pattern tanks rush forward and pose a danger if i dont hae at support bcause my anti-tank assets are to weak. after they are taken out i have to reduce the russian inf horde that is slowly and bulky moving around while dodging his aty.I try to show him my tanks for 2 rounds and then move them sometimes this triggers aty bombardment. meanwhile my two snipers are runnig around searching for his aty (iam playing a 100x100 map and they are able to sneak through pretty easy). My infantry is pretty useless and sneaks around most of the time following the snipers into the backyard but they can get massacred by aamgs pretty easily. the mgs are of some use moving down the russaian inf masses and pinning them for my mortars.this part of the battle is pretty boring and most of my losses occur here because i move my inf to fast. i really need to find some use for my inf against enemy inf. they are pretty good at taking out russian tanks in the woods, especially pioneers with flamethrowers but the rest of the mission is won by mgs, tanks and aty. as i need some at power i tried to capture a russian 76,2mm gun. and my sniper had taken out the crew of one but we were unable to secure it in the next encounter 2nd kompanie will try to capture one of these formodableguns intact for thir at-platoon. |
Re: valos german adventure
i restarted because somehow i didnt like to continue withthis core. so i started again with a small core and iam now in greece with 2 platoons 1 mortar and one at-gun. So i will learn to use infantry tactics. One thing i have to remember is to concentrate my forces to achieve firepower superiority as i forgot this often.
the last battle was a meetong engagement where ic was able to lure the brits into a cauldron and destroyed them. Feels nice when a plan works instead of endless machinegunnig enemy inf with my tanks. i have learnend that airplanes in small scale scenarios suck beacuse they give the ai a whole extra infatry company to purchase and the planes cant compensate this. i am thinking again of playing 200x200maps very time because it fells moore realistic and there is alot more room for maneuver. problem is the game gets boring on such a huge map very fast because there is m,uch running around and only little fighting. my infanttry skils have increased. now i use one or two platoons for surpressive fire and the third closes with the enmy works good in open terrain and minimzes losses even if there still are some risks andf i dont like taking causalities especially to my core. now iam delaying a uk counteraatack in greece and so far everthign works ok. a uk inf company is attacking along a dirt road and gets hammered by mortars into retreat. there are huge areas of woodland that are defended by gebrirgsjaegers and a bulgarian platoon(with stretcher bearers attached an inf that carries 4)an i have been able to take some carriers cruisers and AC here. a village is defended by my crack platoon that has been under my command since poland. We willsee what happens whe enemy inf closses in i plan a series of ambushes with retreats in the forests and maybe a defense in the village if i wont get pounded by aty to much. there is also a hill that is ruled by a 5cm gun http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif and 2 mgs an unbeatable combo as long as they are not spotted for aty fire. |

here is a map of the battle. the difficult terrain made the english attack very slow and they send in wave after wave into the city were they were attcked by a 3 unit stack that didnt get return fire the whole scenario. somehow the ai missed to shell my platoon in the village. he was to busy bombarding my mortars on rough ground and managed to route one of them at the end of the battle.
my core mortar squad abadoned its equipment and watched the shells fall on their mortar position then they went back and started firing again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

the next battle is a meeting engagement with the uk.
deployment the terrain is split up in 2 parts by huge woods. i plan to fight on the roads. in the north one infantry will perfurm ambushes in the group of houses at the road. the bulgarian squal will gurad its right flank and the mgs will guard the lef with the VH.In the south the italians will take up positions along the ridge were they are well sheltered against enemy fire. they have 2 47mm AT-guns with them. I have to be there faster then the englishmen maybe some mortarfire along the road will slow them down. the hill on the middle is guarded by 4 pzIV and 3 Pzgrenadieres. they will be my reserve and counterattack force to take all the objectives when the ai has spent its forces. I am starting to split my forces again that is probably a bad idea because i have little manpower in the north that might be a problem. turn 1 preplotted mortars fall om booth roads.At-guns are driven to their destinations.italians move forward. turn2 Mortars fall italians move forward no enemy spotted yet. turn 3 mortars fall. i see a crew exits map message, i hit something http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.Italians continue to move to their positions. turn4 in the south some light tanks and a cruiser are spotted. i take 2 shots with one AT but they miss and the cruiser makes a smoke screen. that was a bit impatient i wanted to wait for close range engagements. nothing in the north yet. turn 5 Mortars fall.a lt tank takes the flag in the southern road and disapears.i dont know where he is but he is not a great problem.i send an at to recapture the road.one cruiser is hit by the fourth shoot of my AT i dont know if this gun is spotted. turn 6 the english tanks capture a vh in the woods they are fast. no enemy spotted. where is his infantry? maybe my mortars are effective? turn 7 the road is recaptured a cruiser tank is potted but can not be attacked by at forces.I send a HT to take the southwestern roadobj. 1 1/2 italian platoon goes to recapture the wood VH i dont expect englishmen there so no prepmortarfire. turn 8 the platoon in the wood encounter the missing lt tk and immobilize it after some panicking and rallying then they proceed with throwing nades against it and shooting their rifles while hollering to indimitade the crew inside. Another lt tk is 100m north of them and might give unpleasent company the next turn. Another cruiser comes out of the wood to take back the road and is attacked by my at that misses the cruiser uses his smoke. My AT rifles at the roads walk slowly forward spotting the first infantry in the woods north of the dirt road.My mortars continue to pound the roads. All quiet in the north.Maybe i should make a move there. turn 9 my italians in the woods get machinegunned by the rifle squad from 600 m away http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif and the second lt tank.My at gund destroyes one lt tk and and immobilzes a cruiser. my at rifles march along the road encountering no englishmen. i move my reserve to the south and one HT to the north to look what is going on in the north. turn 10 i take some shots with an AT rifle at the last lt tank in the south but they miss and have to cover their retreat with smoke. This Lt tk is directly in the back of my positions on the rough ridge if he moves he will be dead.the italians in the wood now with 5 men less rally and move again to the VH. finnaly i see some activity in the north a vh is taken. i plot my mortars between this vh and the next VH on the northern road. my at rifles/scouts move forward on the southern road an see a pinned crew that has an aty plotted directly on top of it. turn 11/12 i bomb his immobilised tank that had been driven into a house to little effect. my italians on the ridge get bombed heavily by 3inch mortars (3) and they retreat en masse.i can see one mortar but i dont have the resources for CB fire atm.i send my at rifles to take out a immobilzed cruiser that has overwatch on the dirt road so my panzer 4 can advance. turn 13 my HT that tired to get into the british rear meats a matilda !!!! he shoots but misses and my HT runs into the woods north of the road.another VH on the northern road is captured and i plot aty there. In the south the italians are bombarded again and they dont like it. my panzer 4 attack a single rifle squad on the dirt road helping out a troubled AT rifle team there.I plot 2 of my Mortars for CB fire. turn 14 my forward AT-rifles are taken out by british rifles.the Pz 4 take out 3 of them as retaliation. i am now don do one ATsquad http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif. I needed them to take out the immobilised Cruisers. My HT runs through the woods and might get to the rear where he will be met by AD guns as usual. So it might be better to use that mobile mg on the defense... turn 15-17 one immobilized tank is taken out and CB fire is switched to another smokefield that might indicate morter positions.the HT is lost to a Matilda lurking in the woods. these Matildas will be a problem... turn 17-20 i start a counterattack in the south and meet only little resistance because the british infantry concentrates on the VH in the woods were my Italians have some Succes even if they have much less experience and morale then the english. the english mortars plotted on them fall on their own troops. In the north things get hotter as my sniper repulses some infantry moving along the road. so i can hit them with my mortars. then he retreats turn 20-23 along the northern road uk infantry attacks and is machineguned and bombarded. a matida crawls nearer. in the south i can advance along the road against minimal opposition i saw 2 crew exits map messages maybe CB fire was succesful. turn 24 the english are coming out of the woods and try to recapture the dirt road. they are greeted by 2 italain inf platoons and a panzer. in the nort i loose a man to a FOO team that sneaked forward argh. the kill zone there functions well and iam reluxtant to retreat to covered positions that might cost me later as my men are spotted now. there is at least one 3 inch mortar left the other two are destroyed or abdoned i hope. turn 24-27 the mortars make a comeback and shell the italians. i see a possible site and order CB fire. on the souther front the uk infantry makes banzaichrages aganst my tanks and manges to take one out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif.the last AT rifle team is lost and thr itlains advance routing some english infantry that moves out of the woods.in the north the matilda moves into the little "village" and my pioneers take it out.i expect at least another one. |
Re: valos german adventure
turn 28-31
the south is a rout for the english my panzer 4s have taken out the hmgsquads(feels a bit unrealistic the last thing you see of the infantrycompany is always the hmgs with their size 0).In the north things get interesting with the second matilda showing its ugly face. i ahve to setup an ambuish for him because he is moving at my mg postion on the northern hill. turn 32-36 i move towards the crossroads in the south and i might just get them. the italians in the woods hold there VH by ambushing any infantry that moves with 6 sections all packet in one woodhex.the remaoning english infantry is taken prisoner as they move out of the wood one by one. in the north my A0(a pioneer) assaults the matilda as it tries to take the hill. A few inafntry units appear here an then and are shoot into retreat. the battle seems to be over and there are only 2 turns to go. if i can grab the crossroads a marginal victory is possible. the end the english forces are destroyed 326:26 causalities a rate of more then 1 to 10. A marginal victory is achieved. I tried to get one matilda ofr my men but it was totaly burned.Maybe there will be another chance. now onto the amysomething plains for another meating with the forces of the united kingdom |

Re: valos german adventure
operation barbarossa has started and my 2 companies are on the verge of destruction. i was rushed by soviet tank hordes and all i had to szop them were a few spread out at-guns. i decided to hold fire for sure kills that didnt work at all. and the russians have 5 122mm batteries and 8 mortars. my elite infantry is getting decimated by the 122s. they can stand up well agaisnt 81mm mortrs but the 122mm guns cause heavy causalities.
one platoon is down to 70% and isolated my at gun has been totally destroyed by a huge barrage (i have to remember to MOVE). another platoon is down to 60% with one squad down to 3 men i hope they stay alive the russian tanks are rather blindi try to retreat my beaten platoons to the southwestern edge of the map to prepare a counterattack with what is left. The northern line is held by 2 division azul platoons and an english 4cm gun they will soon feel the pain, too. my romanian company is fairly intact on areverse slope but they have to retreat or they will get surrounded. |
Re: valos german adventure
the russians are dwon to 3 tanks now and their infantry is getting decimated when they meet my machineguns. i have lost control of the middle of the map and his aty still hurts me but i might survive this with a draw or something.
