How Are Proccesing Times Now?

noticed one of the patchs seems to fixed some of it supposely..

How much better is it? I usually only play the largist possable galaxys and such.. Still looking at unbearable times after 50 or so turns?

Yes, it is still very slow with 255-system galaxy and 20 players. At around turn 80, it took at least 15 minutes to process the turns. Also, the game kept crashing unless you save the game, quit SEV, and restart SEV again, every few turns. It looks like the memory leak problem is still there.

Hopefully things will be better when the next patch comes out.

the recent betas mentioned fixing some turn processing issues, but the patch hasn't been released yet.

Yea, the next patch will be improving turn processing, as well as fixing game memory usage

Wow! This new patch sure shortened the processing time. The 255-system, 20-player game that used to take over 15 minutes to process turns now takes only about 2 minutes! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif This is excellent. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

On a Pentium D 2.80 Ghz w/2 Gig Ram, in a large universe (stock settings w/ latest balanced mod, w/ 10 races my turns have gone from 24 minutes to process to 8 minutes. So a three fold improvement for me. I'll take it.

Now if I could only get Arron to add back the "Systems To Avoid" toggle to the planets list menu...

BTW, could someone post the e-mail to reach Arron? Thanks!

how much it works I don't know, I've received replies in the past but I sent a bug report last week and he didn't reply.

Aaron doesn't usually reply to emails unless he needs more info; he does read them though.

I sent a report once - and the changes were on the patch changes list only a few days after that!

One man, two arms, ten fingers and a need to avoid carpet tunnel syndrome. I think he does rather well with the updates.

I will add that while the game turn time is improved I am still seeing slow menu/list response in a large game. Waiting more than 5 seconds for a menu to display starts to get old, when the wait approaches 10 seconds it gets frustrating. Here's hoping there is still room for improvement in some of the menu display times.
