NSFW?

Is there a list of unmodded special province defenders? Before I saw this, I think the highest level defender I've seen was a Lamia Queen and her accomplice who was wearing Fenris's Pelt.

For some reason the Great Mother and the Lord of Fertility have decided to frolic in the snow. Damn, that looks cold! Anyway, it made me chuckle, so I had to share it.

I've seen a Wyrm accompanied by over half a dozen sea serpents as defenders once. Tougher indies are fun.

The two Cyclopes who guard Mine of the Cyclops and possess the Hammer of the Cyclops are a fairly tough bunch, so are Solaris and Sativa. Ptah the Divine Mummy also isn't a pushover.

It's on Dawn of Dominions, with level 5 indies. Dawn of Dominions is really a great SP map. There's lots of chokepoints, it's nicely drawn, and the nations are thematically placed. I wish there was an equivalent for MA and LA.

Dawn of Dominions

I'd like to think that this map is a first of a series; followed by Day of Dominions, Twilight of Dominions, Land of the Living Longdead...

No, Gandalf, that's actually one of the built-in random special provinces like Solaris the Paladin. Those are the defenders of the magic site The Primal Forest which allows recruitment of Hamadryads.

There should be an option which would allow independents to grow stronger without starvation as the turns pass... this would add more replay value for the advanced and expert players.

Do independents gain access to more spells as the turns pass? Or do they start out with a fixed research list?

There's a great province that comes up every so often that gets an Air 5 guy and some phantasmal defenders. I seduced him with a Rakshasi and it was awesome.

That being said, there are a few more weird provinces:
-A golem and living statues
-a Sorceress with the artifact Robe of the Sorceress

Re: NSFW?

I've been pretty disappointed on the indy research list, even giving them F5E5 they still cast fire flies and other low level spells. Wish they had full research and were only limited to gems/paths. If turn memory were implemented they could gain research levels over the course of the game. Turn 10 lvl 2 all schools, turn 20 lvl 3, etc...turn 70 they're all dead anyway.

I really like the randomized specials with the devil producing item. If you wait to long its against 40-50 devils, whee! Played my most successful (random, fun, difficult) SP yesterday. Lost my pretender (black dragon, fully equipped), woundflame wielding wraith lord, and a fully equiped Tart to a province like this. Loved it.

KO mentioned in another thread that they start with a fixed Grimoire and that it's rather limited. Like, without modifications from Dom2. Hence you see enemy necromancers only all the time cast "Raise Dead" even with no corpses around instead of the better choice to "Raise Skeletons".

Yep. Most special indy commanders has their own grimoires. There is also a default grimoire with lvl 0-3 spells of all paths I would guess.

Those who have better lists are those of special provinces: Spectral mage, Demi Lich, Sorceress, Lamia Queen, etc. Perhaps druids and some others has expanded grimoires as well.

This is a remnant from dom-ppp, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to change it to be moddable.
