MP blitzing invitation

Hello.

I was invited for some blitzing this weekend and though that it would be fun and useful for balancing and stuff. My current MP is fun, but quite time consuming. So I need a quicker outlet as well.

I will try to get mIRC working tomorrow and see what pops up. You are welcome to participate or just hang around http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'm not sure how you enter the channel, but I think I'll ask QM to explain.

Great chance to begin MP blitzing if you havn't done it already http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

BTW it's my second blitz ever, so you are welcome to whip me, especially with all kinds of abuses.

What is mIRC and how is it used for blitzes?

Kristoffer O July 27th, 2007 08:13 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

mIRC is some kind of chat room where you can talk and decide on who will set up a server. THen you play and chat for a few hours. Almost like hot seat http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Steps to connect to the dominions channel:

1. Get an IRC client, this one is one of the easier to use.

2. If you got the client above, install and run the program, go under servers and select a gamesurge server, then connect to it.

3.Once you are connect it will prompt you with a list of channels, click add and put in #dominions as the channel. It will then be added to the list and you can select it to join.

I should also note that, despite the name blitz, games very rarely have any kind of turn timer.

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Also...

IRC://irc.gamesurge.net:6667

Gandalf had posted that in the IRC channel sticky. Firefox has a IRC plugin, and that link opens it up and connects to the Gamesurge server. All you have to do after that is type /join dominions.

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Many browsers will. Opera also can handle a direct URL to an IRC chatroom.
mIRC is actually a standalone program that does not use the browser to connect you to IRC servers.

IRC= Internet Relay Chat
Once on a chat server you can create a room, join a room, chat in a room.

This makes blitz games even blitzier. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
The players can chat while the game is going on. There have also been suggestions for creating a room inside the various servers that support voice communication but so far that hasent been much agreement on which one to use.

Wikd Thots July 27th, 2007 09:30 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Yeah I use opera. But if you join THAT chat room then be prepared to pick up and run some mods for a blitz. The guy that makes the CBM mod that changes many things in the game hangs out there and they really push using it in all of the games.

But you could always just create a new room called Dom3

The honor of a whole channel just to get away from me! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

A balance mod in this case would defeat the point of showcasing balance problems, anyway.

Re: MP blitzing invitation

I said "they" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
It isn't just you. But the channel did seem to be more of a mod-blitz channel than a blitz channel.

Plus its not much of a place for someone who isnt already pretty good with the game. You mention a nation and hear something like "oh one of the weakest in the game". In fact I think that channel is a great place to get a pretender or scales or tactic reviewed by the experts if you can understand the conversation. But I did not think much of it as a place for new people to get into blitz games and try things out.

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Thats why it needs more people. The more the merrier.

quantum_mechani July 27th, 2007 10:43 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Actually, it has been more of a no-blitz channel for a while now...

It's true that games there tend to have a higher ratio of veteran players, and involve mods more often than in an average forum game, but that's no reason for people to not be able to 'try things out'. It's not like it's some kind of game ladder where people are fighting tooth and nail to be the absolute winner, games are for the fun of it and whoever is the final winner tends to almost an afterthought.

PashaDawg July 27th, 2007 11:31 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Yes. No need to use mods in the blitzes, and certainly less experienced players are welcome to utilize the room to organize noob blitzes, too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have played the game for quite a while now, but I still scratch my head when someone says a nation "weakest in the game," because I have not even played all the nations yet. Some of us are long-term noobs. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The more the merrier! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: MP blitzing invitation

I don't think mods are that prevalent in MP dominions. CBM maybe (for good reason) but very, very few nation mods etc.

Re: MP blitzing invitation

I was in 1 blitz with a few names around these here parts a few weeks ago as Jomon with the CBM running. It was a good time, and I was able to pull out my WW2 encyclopedias and read them while waiting for people to finish their turns. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Harharhar, that made me laugh uncontrollably. It isn't that "bad", qm isn't going to eat you. I played at least a dozen blitz games in there I think, and only maybe two of those were with the Conceptual Balance mod. The Worthy Heroes mod is used very often, though, because it does no harm and it's cool.

I did http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif, but I was in a sorry position. On the other hand it made me think aboout MA T'ien Ch'i. As a result conscription has ben made more effective, and I have made an apothecary and an imperial alchemist http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Brilliant, I recently read about conscription on this forum and tried it out, I was very disappointed with it. Its good to know its been improved.

Lets try to get Kristoffer to play more nations, so we get more goodies... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

BigDisAwesome July 29th, 2007 02:38 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Someone should start a thread, and we could all do some voting perhaps to find the top 5 or 10 nations that need work.

Then we could make Kristoffer play those nations in MP games and VOILA!

Salamander8 July 29th, 2007 02:42 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Wish I could've been on for this, but my Sat's tend to be booked up.

Nice idea there, Bigdisawesome. Maybe give MA Agartha and MA Ulm a look. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Kristoffer O July 29th, 2007 02:43 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

It was almost impossible to see any effects from the conscription as it was. I have increased chances by a multiplier of 3 and trying it out. Now I can see effects, which I couldn't this morning.

The conscr is dependent on both dom str and order scale of the province, so it will have most effects in provinces closer to home and preached ones.

(Dom*order*conscr)/defence= chance of increase

Wahnsinniger July 29th, 2007 02:43 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Heh, that MA Ulm was the first nation KO played...and aparently he gotten beaten down pretty hard. No shame though, 'cause that was the point.

Kristoffer O July 29th, 2007 02:48 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

I played MA Ulm in the first game, as I have some ideas for them. I was surprised to see that I didn't have a clue about their troops. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I had them mixed up with the old Iron Faith and intended to buy Black Templars, only to realize that there weren't any http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

So my new Iron Faith ideas for MA Ulm will probably be LA Ulm to some extents. But they might need some stuff as well.

I also got educated in the proper use of elephants and F9W9S9 shadow vestals.

lch July 29th, 2007 07:25 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

Ohhhh, yes. W9 shadow vestals and the principes alone can [censored] MA Ulm up a lot, and elephant rush is said to be devastating, too.

Kristoffer O July 29th, 2007 07:51 PM

Re: MP blitzing invitation

The vestals did just mop me up after eradicating the elephants that had stomped me, besieged me and destroyed my walls. Ready for plucking so to say.
