Re: Looking for some \'New\' Design Name Lists
There are several of these lists in the "Miscellaneous Files" section over at PBW, including my "Famous Scientists" list.

Re: Looking for some \'New\' Design Name Lists
Hey, 2 things-
1.- Love this thread, keep the cool name file coming. 2. -My personel favorite name file was made by Tampa_Gamer, and came with an early Version of his Darlock shipset. It is called legal.txt, it is bases around legal terminology, and it must be said that there is something truly sinister about AI ships with names like "Brief", "Aquisition" and "Arbitrator". Anyway, The latest TDM modpack Version of the Darlock have a new (and also very cool) name file, so I thought I would post the legal.txt name file here, so that a truly menacing name file wouldn't be forgotten. Like I said earlier, this is Tampa_Gamer's name file, but I'm assuming he doesn't mind it being republished here. |

Re: Looking for some \'New\' Design Name Lists
Here is my personal ship list. It is a mix. I use different types of names for different size ships and different "types" of ships. Maruspial named ships generally carry cargo, hench a "pouch" (easy to remember...).
Also some goddesses (of course!), and an adaptation of some Japanese names - mostly weather conditions.. "drizzlng rain.." enjoy |
Re: Looking for some \'New\' Design Name Lists
here's a plant names file that I use for my united floral fleet. I saw a plant names file made by someone else a while back, but this one should be quite different. I especially like the more aggressive plant names like death-nettle or deadly nightshade..

I posted a whole collection in these forums a few months ago that included animals, plants, names of weapons and armor, tools, occult/psychic terms and concepts, Chivalry terms and names from Chivalric literature, Norse, Latin, and Celtic myth, weather terms, and quite a few others including better Versions of some of the lists posted here, plus edited Versions of the standard design names. MM didn't do very good research on some of their design names files. There were a lot of 'collisions' between the various files, too. There are fewer collisions in my modified Versions, though still some. It's hard to have a USSR and a Russian file and not have collisions, for example. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif I've collected some of the stuff posted here and have been adding the good ones (like the Egyptian list) to my own collection. Now I don't have to research that one from scratch though I did modify it some. I've researched "Angels" and "Demons" and "Amerind" (Native American Tribes names) on my own now as well as adding some of the files I've seen posted here. I've got 45 names files in all now, and none with less than 100 names! [This message has been edited by Baron Munchausen (edited 08 July 2001).] |
Re: Looking for some \'New\' Design Name Lists
I found this site of old. It is for Space Empire III but these name files still work for IV.
The site is... http://www.angelfire.com/bc/borfalkia/sn.html These are what are listed on the page... Ship Names ---------- ALL-Is a list with a little of every thing, lots of location names. Hawk-Is a list of mainly medeivel oriented names. Stuff-Is a list of several interesting names. Tolkien-Is a list from the novel "Lord of the Rings" written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Words-Is an interesting compilation of names, several relating to death etc. names-Speaks for its self. ------------------------------ Hope everyone likes them. I thought Tolkien was timely since the Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is coming out in the Thanksgiving movie season. Not that far away! (it looks pretty cool on the trailer!!) |
